@@jackfitzpatrick8173 Sorry but they are playing to a backing track at minimum. I'm a musician and have run sound for years. That is not a completely live performance. The sound is too full and mixed for what they have on stage. I'm sure they are playing along but we are also hearing a studio track. Ahhh the Fabulous 80s when music was diverse original and fun. Loved it No better decade. This song was the epitome of that. Originality in the respect of having a billboard No 1 hit featuring banjo and violins and still forty years later being enjoyed at bars and weddings. Bravo Dexys well done

Ohh wow. I've watched QI for years and as soon as I heard that voice, I didn't even have to look at the screen to know it was her haha. Sandy, what a legend she is.

This tune never got old to me. Knocked Michael Jackson's Billy Jean off the charts for a couple months.

I knew a girl called Irene who still hates this song! It’s not even her name… Mind you… when I married my second wife called Karen, the registrar twice called her Carol and corrected herself. You guessed it, my first wife is called Carol.

This is an excellent version of this song. I never heard it before.

I never looked at this song closely for 41 years. I just danced and sang the only 3 words I knew. After reading about the origins and watching videos like this one… I understand it much better now. Brilliant. This is great art.

@Uncle Gilbert I played back both versions side by side for fun, and yes the lead vocal track sounds identical, but the instruments and background vocals are not. For example the piano crescendo at 1:00 is completely different.
