Grateful to my older brother who left behind _Life on Mars_ when he left home, and the Narada Michael Walden _Dance of Life_ - two albums I love and enjoy as much today as I did aged 11. Superb. Timeless. PS I did return them and bought my own copies. 😊

A hauntingly melodic space aged funk, one of the brightest moments in Phillys great history, this 1976 set is a masterpiece, with some serious keyboard orientated Funk, thanks to maestro Dexter Wansel, Phillys own producer and keyboard maestro

This was the JAM that introduced me to Dexter Wansel I played this song till the grroves wore off of the LP!!! I couldn't get enough of this song. Timeless!!!!! Thank you Mr. Wansel
So proud to know Mr Wansel is a fellow Leo!! 🦁 ♌ when I first heard this as a teen it blew me away! My Mother told me how she & friends partied hard & danced to this. The intro is EPIC 🔥 when I imagine traveling to space this would be what I'd hear in my head witnessing the heavenly galaxies & planets! Then that Philly funk rolls in! Masterpiece ❤❤
I am in my late sixties oh my God this sounds so good now, all these years later!!! Dexter should gotten much more airtime than he did...Thank for the music that stands the test of time... Alethab

Good call, I'd say that's a pretty accurate description of the rhythms, feel, tone and aesthetics of this tune. Truly a great piece of music : )
This past month I went to Philadelphia and the moments I stepped foot in the city, this song immediately came to my mind
Yeah, I'm a fan and have been for decades. This was a masterpiece lauded by DJs.
Never got to hear my guitar teacher play live, but I got to hear him play on this classic! Calvin Harris I'll love you forever! Thank You for getting me off to a great start in my career! I still play some of what you taught me!!!
Makes me want to go and get a massive land yacht like a 70s Cadilac Eldorado. Drive around listing to this. Amazing!
A masterful blend from back in the day.
This cut would of been a great "theme song" intro for a popular TV drama series.
This was my jam, i was playing trumpet in a local band and we used to rock this piece with a PASSION!😅
About damn time. I have a pristine promo vinyl copy of this, and have been threatening to digitize and de-noise this forever. THANK YOU, Dexter!!

Hey I heard Douglas Quaid is already there. Sharon Stone may or may not be there, she's being coy ; ) (This should be an obvious early 90s reference, or at least once upon a time. But I bet many will not get it due to our over saturation of pop culture. Doh!)
This one & Voyager, are my 2 fav Dexter songs. Space is the place for jazz/funk now !
Playing this Philly Gem on the Roxy NYC dance floor was pure bliss.
I love hearing this joint so much that it gets even better when B Boys & B Girls Uprock against each other to it
This song is sooooo space age and is still lite years ahead of its time.

Heck, I'd say it still can be used for a movie soundtrack. Just gotta find the right one to get a good match. One that came out a little while ago the sci-fi/comedy Paul (2011) would've likely been a good fit somewhere. Heck maybe somebody should do a tribute video and mash it up with some movie visuals.

@@ronimausanti9625 In my humble opinion, jazzrock and fusion music are perhaps two of the most contaminated genres. Of course if we make the comparison with Herbie Hancock, the Headhunters, Soft Machine, Weather Report, Chick Corea's Return to Forever, Stanley Clarke as a soloist, and yes: I want to hazard also Colosseum... and so on, we are on a another planet: it's all jazzrock but they are all very different from each other. Herbie Hancock himself makes strong use of funky elements such as bass or guitar rather than drums but his style is certainly and definitely a purebred jazzrock. In my opinion this album has strong jazzrock connotations, as well as many funky aspects. For example, the chorus of this song is very reminiscent of "So what" by Miles Davis, e.p. solo is definitely in jazz style.. so...

@@audio7033 I can't hear a single rock influence in this soundtrack. This is 100% jazz funk. Can you produce some examples?
@audio7033

@@ronimausanti9625 yes I agree: this track is more jazz funk, but for example in "A Prophet Named K.G. " the rithm, the bassline and the incisive arrangement of the track or drums in "Stargazer" makes me think more of a jazzrock. The line between jazzrock and jazz funk is very thin, maybe jazz funk has a more light sound...since jazzrock makes more use of rock intruments like electric piano and more keyboards, but they can be points of view. Generally it is sufficient to merge electric instruments like EP and/or synthesizers in a jazz style to obtain jazzrock. That said, 1000 exceptions can be found since it's hard to give a precise delimitation. P.S. for me an example of jazz funk is "Pick up the pieces"...
Davis' "So What" re-mastered... nice
The drums on this tune by Daryll Brown heavily inspire my playing
LUPE!
This should be playing on some outward bound space vessel to let them know out there that humanity can be cool.
