In the 70s, we didn't categorize the music. If we could dance to it, it sounded good, was funky, musicians were on point, singers were singing, that's all that was required.

Exactly right. Categorization is mainly done for commercial reasons, but I increasingly believe that you can at most say that there is music for different purposes, without attaching all kinds of labels to it.

Im sitting by a fire pit in back of my house. Just cooked two ribeyes over it with a tripod grill. And I’m enjoying a nice cigar with a Pinot noir watching the fire die as I listen to this on a blue tooth speaker. Wish you all were here with me. If you were, Id break out the Northern Lights and expand all of your minds. Peace.

Song is 46 years old and still in the Coolness Hall of Fame. Indescribable how good this song makes me feel. I just know I'm in the wind when I hear it. That intro, that bass, the bongos, the drums and then Lonnie on that synth, then that voice "Expand Your MInd..." A song about love and peace and the brotherhood of man, ending with that plea "Expand Your MInd. Expand Your Mind." Masterpiece, Master Peace, To Everyone Joy and Peace.

Lonnie is a Richmond, Virginia native along with his brothers Donald & Ray. Their father, Lonnie, Sr. sang with the legendary gospel group, "The Harmonizing Four". Donald is featured here on vocals and is also a accomplished pianist and flutist. Ray is the last original member of the "Jarmels" who made the song "A Little Bit of Soap". Just a bit of history from a homer.

The greats of Tap dancing would have appreciated some of what these guys were doing i swear!! This Track caused dancing floors to erupt as soon as the opening cords were played. Gods i miss those days and those Dancers...Magical dancefloor times and this Track was the main forerunner. !! Will always LOVE IT and Tear up at the Memories !!!!

I'm now 67 and was listening to this back in my early youth. What drives this is basically the bass line which almost stays the same throughout along with the keyboards and Idris's vocals. Back then this did hit the number1 spot for best jazzfunk track and in one suvey it was pipped off the top by the crusaders "Put it where you want it". Still a timeless classic and I'm still playing it. Many thanks for the upload.
