    I have just bought one, and your recommendation was spot-on, IMO. Set up was perfect. I am a beginner woodworker, so I appreciated just being able to clip on the fence, taking a few measurements, and checking for square. The cuts I have made so far are amazingly clean and effortless. I haven’t been able to make long, thin cuts before, so it's a game changer for my hobbies and interests. FFX often do promotions, and mine cost just under 400 quid. All the best. Richie.

    I had the 10" version. The best thing about this saw is the fence adjustment. The rear of the fence adjusts the same amount as the front keeping it parallel to the saw blade. Many table saw fences skew out of alignment when you either adjust it, or clamp it down.

    Thank you much for this review. I just finished practically rebuilding a rental house for someone but I am not a carpenter. (machinist here) The project came out very well as I am a bit of a perfectionist and I earned almost enough money for my labor to pay for the tools I bought. One of them was this exact table saw and it was a life saver when re-flooring the entire house with a laminate wood floor. While I loved every minute I used this my only issue was (like you said) the miter gage is pretty much trash. I am just happy that I didn't waste $299 on a bad saw.

    DEFINITELY check to make sure everything is squared up properly before using for the first time! I just got a new DeWalt Table Saw (DWE7491RS) and it came out of the box defective. The blade and riving knife sat flush against one side of the throat plate. Wasn't a problem with the throat plate, it was the entire motor mount which was slightly off. Everyone I asked said it DEFINITELY shouldn't be like that. DeWalt wanted me to drive 2 hours to the nearest "authorized service shop." No thanks DeWalt.. If I spend $700 on a brand new item, I'm not ALSO going to drive 4 hours to get it repaired before I can even use it. REFUNDED AND REPLACED.

    Yeah I totally understand the frustration, I’d have been the same. I did recently have an issue with the fence of this table saw. I contacted Dewalt and they replied the next day and told me they’re sending a new fence! Things must be a bit different in the UK, I don’t think we have repair centres here. And I agree, always check and never trust factory calibration. 😎

    @sumeray builds what’s the main limitations of this saw compared to the 7491 10 inch version. I’m looking at getting one of the two and the money isn’t the big obstacle. I’m just a basic weekend woodworker and curious if the 7485 will be enough for me? Thanks

  • @sumeraybuilds

    Essentially it's just the cutting depth. A 10 in blade means you'll be able to cut through thicker timber which can be useful depending on what you have in mind. I *think* the 10 inch allows for dado blade too.

    Nice review that would have convinced me to buy one had I not already done so. But I take issue with your dismissal of the mitre gauge: "It's OK..." Seriously? I think it's an utter piece of junk that was binned very soon after setting up the saw. You're spot on about the instructions! The DeWalt was a perfect buy for me, size-wise, but it was the fence mechanism that clinched it for me as my previous saw's fence was dreadful and unsquarable, if that's a word. (I know it's not.) I had to adjust the fence slightly out of the box, but the blade alignment was so perfect that I couldn't detect any issues, even with a nicely mounted dial gauge. I had to set up the 90 and 45 degree stops, which took a while, but once set up they've not moved. I agree that it's noisy. Also, the dust collection's not that great, even with a shop vac, but it's not too bad. The only thing I would have liked is gear driven blade angle adjustment, but seeing as the vast majority of cuts I make are at 90 or 45 I can live without it.

  • @sumeraybuilds

    @sumeraybuilds

    Thanks for the feedback Mark! It’s great to hear you enjoyed the review. I do think the Mitre gauge is ‘good enough’ for most beginners making basic items. But if you need to do anything that requires precision like furniture ect then I agree with you!

    It’s buy far, my favourite woodworking purchase. I’ve ran oak through it a lot and it’s great. You’ll find a finer blade will help with tear out too. I’d say day this saw could handle most beginner project easily.

  • @14mtaylor

    I have that saw and I love it. The only thing I do not like is how you adjust the blade angle. You have to unlock it and push it one way or the other and lock in place hoping you are at the angle you want. I wish it was on a geared crank wheel that you can easily adjust. You must use a digital blade angle finder for precise angles. It if yo just need to be very close you can eyeball the numbers on the side. If you plan to build it into a table and make it not so mobile anymore. The flip-up locks on the sliding rip fence are easy to use but are low and you need to leave a 2" or more gap in your table top all the way down you entire table OR leave designated cut outs for that and then yo must move the fence to that location every time you remove it. Overall thought a very nice saw.

    Everyone rates the saw highly. Everyone comments on the mitre guide - but a higher grade furniture and cabinet grade mitre guide would raise the cost significantly above the price for a construction site job saw, which is what it is. The fact that it can justify spending more on a more precise mitre guide is a plus. Some people add a piece of 19mm plywood to make a truly flat top and then add higher grade T-track for a higher grade mitre guide. Well worth getting some roller stands for long pieces to run off on

    @sumeraybuilds greater max cut range, longer rip capacity, ability to run a dado stack which the 7485 can't do, comes with a built in stand, about 50 bucks cheaper than the 7485, widely regarded as one of the best mid value picks, with the dewalt 7491 still being considered the best overall on the market for jobsites.

    That factory blade is trash and should be replaced first unless all you are doing is framing or building decks/sheds. The miter gauge is also trash. All in all, its a decent small contractor saw and that's about it. The 10" version gives a lot more capability.
