Dewalt DW1251 Radial saw, Switch repair.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I show how I repaired my Dewalt DW1251 Radial arm saw. A new switch would have cost me around £90 ukp. So replaced it with a wall mounted no volt release switch costing £21 ukp.
My Fretwork/scrollsaw website is now online and can be found at the web address sites.google.com/view/scrimpe...

Thanks for the comment, George used to be fine with the camera since he started a course at university he has become camera shy. probably worried his mates would 'rib' him.

Thanks Colin we haven't cycled much in the last few weeks due to a lot of our routes are flooded leaving just the main roads that are not nice to cycle on.

It's the same here, I prefer tracks but the mud makes it impossible. Never mind, Spring is on its way.@@scrimperuk

Good to see you in front of the camera again John, I'm looking forward to seeing the edited videos you mentioned at the start. One small question - I have an NVR switch on my home-made router table and mounted it low down so I can hit the red button with my knee in the case of emergency; is there a special reason you mounted yours up and behind the saw? And thanks for showing us the interior of the old switch - I kept wondering if the old one could be repaired! Cheers mate and thanks, I enjoyed that

Hi Mark. I did consider mounting it lower down but there was a good reason why I didn't, on this machine the saw bench overhangs by quite a lot in front of the machine and to the side I store stuff and I believe it would have either been awkward to operate or got damaged. Don't worry I would have repaired the switch if it had been possible.

Same happened the a saw I, recently got, I actually stripped the switch down and inside it was physically worn on the contacts so no way to repair unfortunately. I think this is what generally happens to 90% of them. I do have pictures I'd taken of inside it aswell. I even tried a work around but it just never latched on due to unrepairable wear and tear. Did the same as yourself but I went a bit geeky and installed a red 240v panel indicator on the top of the box to show power was going into it, even if the emergency stop was pressed etc so it will remind me to fully isolate it.

Thank you for your comment Richard. Being an electrical bod by trade and always inquisitive I took mine apart too and found the worn contacts. They are a super saw, I only use mine for crosscutting and use it most days, in all the years I have owned mine this is the only thing that has gone wrong.

Thank you very much Roger. The bike conversion is still working well, I did film a video on how it has been since I fitted it with news of a newer version but before I got around to editing the video the people selling the kit seemed to have ceased trading and disappeared. So it did not seem worth completing the video.
