Dcf885 20volt type 1 was doing the same thing, a few years ago. Opened it up and had to resolder a wire on the switch assembly not once but twice and on separate terminals.(on the battery pack end) Used it and then the impact began demonstrating the same symptoms from this video... I tossed it, to side because I have back up . Last Friday, my other impact flat washer decided it was done, on the nose. Had to break the next one out, to keep it moving, after work I saw this video and there, I was about to order a new switch assembly for that, older one, to have back up... I disassemble the entire drill and used Wd 40 on it, let it set for 2 days and it's working like a champ, NOW!!! Mind you, I didn't let in marinate for 2 days I, sprayed and sprayed and using a 5 gallon bucket and wiped it down and let it sit. Tested it tonight used lag bolts and it's working!!!!

Mine is less than a year old and was doing this sh!t. I’ve even babied it and used my old one for the dirty jobs. So this morning i used WD40 and sprayed all around the gaps of the trigger, also on the speed switch. Then I used my air compressor to blow out any dirt thru the vents of the impact and around the gaps of the trigger. I could tell right away when It worked because I was squeezing the trigger with the battery on and it had the low rpm, then i sprayed more WD40 into the gaps and it came back to life. So if it stops working again I’ll take it apart and follow your method. WD40 is actually a good contact cleaner. I had some here at home and I didn’t want to go to store if I didn’t have to go. I’ll write ya back if it stops working and I’ll definitely take mine apart and use your method. I just figured if it can save someone’s time and do what I did, it might be worth it for someone. Thank you again for making this video.

Thanks for this, my second hand DCF887 had some debris inside which had gone greasy. I cleaned up as much of this as I could, and sprayed contact cleaner inside the trigger, pressed it a few times to pull some of the grime out of the trigger then cleaned it away with a small brush once it dried. The speed selector also had the greasy bits so cleaned that up with contact cleaner and a cotton swab. Working perfectly now! I'll have to keep an eye on the greasiness, maybe the yellow O ring on the gearbox housing is failing and its throwing out grease when it gets hot?

The bearing can suffer as a result a bit of light grease on it does no harm. You can grease the anvil assembly as shown in this other video kzread.info/dash/bejne/gnqCrs-CoZezhZc.html

I would try returning it since they have a three year warrenty only try fixing it if warrenty attempts failed. I would be interested to know if the issue is the motor or switch and if this could be done without disassembly through the housing. If mine fail I will give it a try.

Hi, why does the bit holder swing a lot with the Dewalt DCF887N screwdriver? Do you recommend any model of small Dewalt impact wrench that does not have this defect? Thank you

The Milwaukee fuel impact driver is the gold standard The Dewalt has a wobble but I consider them great for the money. The top end Makita is not as good as the Milwaukee in my opinion however it does not have the wobble the Dewalt has.

  • @rgjr702

The wobble is because it has impact. So it freely has to move in and out causing it have deflection
