Beautifully done - shows how a properly adjusted RAS can be used safely and efficiently - While not demonstrated here - the properly setup RAS is extremely accurate as well. We have three setup for various tasks - best tools in the shop.

@MecCreativeStudio A stacked Dado head take all of 5 minutes to install and if you're cutting tenon's on wide boards it's worth that time. Good video.

From the first cut, I don't think you have a negative angle blade. After buying my radial arm saw, and replacing the blade I found it would want to ride the wood towards me and when ripping was much harder to keep in control. I bought several different brand blades that's when I found out (from someone else's video) radial arm saws are best with negative hook angle blades otherwise they tend to ride the wood their cutting, and ripping is difficult exactly what I was having issues with. Getting one, it's back to feeling like I'm in control again.

Good point about using a negative saw blade but I tend to use them mainly for crosscutting. You can use a negative rake saw blade for ripping but it depends upon the material as to how effective it is, as a rule I prefer to use a saw blade with positive teeth for most ripping. A lot depends upon the saw teeth design and pattern and of course the quality of the manufacture has quite a large effect on the cutting performance of the blade. Manufacturers opinions have in the past sometimes differed regarding the use of negative saw blade for ripping on certain woodworking machines, they use different patterns and sharpening angles on different saw blades so using the correct combination is important. saw blades from different manufacturers can have different grinding patterns: Flat top ground, top bevel, hollow ground, triple chip, and so on, so selecting a negative saw blade can be a bit more complicated than it first seems. If you obtain the opinion of the manufacturer you should be ok. Cheers for the comment

@sonofsawdust Thank you for your comment. This video is simply to show some of the basic operations that a radial arm saw can perform straight out of the box with no extra outlay or cost. Everything I needed to do the job was already there on the machine which makes the radial arm saw a very versatile machine to own.

@neil0502 This video shows what can be done with just the saw blade in the radial arm saw. Dado heads are not necessary to cut tenons as you can see. They will take extra time to fit then remove after use so are not used very often by me. I have a tenon machine which I can use for large production jobs but for small jobs this method often gets the job done quickly. I'm a professional carpenter so tend to use the quickest and easiest method open to me at the time. Hope this answers your query.

Really good skills. Inherited a dewalt 350 had no idea how to use. A few other videos on Radial Saws advice against using them to rip timber. Would viewers say this was dangerous? Is it best for crosscut and mitre work?

+Simeon Banner Yes it is primarily designed for crosscut, mitre cuts, compound cuts, compound mitre cuts etc but it has the advantage that it can also be used for ripping as shown. I have used this saw to cut melamine faced chipboard to width and length for kitchen carcasses and it did a really good job. I also used it to dimension mdf for kitchen doors and it was very accurate. I would normally use a push stick (not shown) when ripping and if you are concerned about the workpiece rising a hold down device such as a feathered board can be use. If you set the machine arbour correctly against the fences and table as shown in the manual and use a sharp blade you should have no problems. Some woodworkers encounter problems simply because the machine has not been set up or use blunt or incorrect blades. I use this machine every time I do a project as it is so useful unlike other machines I have that are only used for more specific tasks.

Is this an Italian made Dewalt? I haven't seen one in the US. Where are you from?

Nice saw, but watching you work makes me a little nervous. Having the the saw move forward on it own while you're down there... You ever think about pitching the saw back so the blade doesn't roll forward on you? Looks like it's pitched the other way right now.

There were several things that made me cringe in this. First, I didn't see any anti-kickback mechanisms (pawls, featherboards). Second, never pull the stock through on the other side. Had the stock pinched the blade, it could have pulled the board violently back through the saw -- along with hands. NOT that a radial arm saw can't be just as safe as any other saw. But safety is important.

Odd that DeWalt's later models don't include anti -kickback like the old ones.

@joemarkey6 The model shown in this, video would have needed a return mechanism for it to comply with Employment Health & Safety legislation. For personal use this legislation does not apply. For current legislation check the Health Safety Executive website, where you can download free leaflets on guidance in the use woodworking machinery. If you employ people you DO have to comply but if you work alone or as a hobbyist by yourself you do not. I would advise following the guidance for safety.

Very nicely done. I'm curious, though, why you didn't throw on a dado stack to cut that tenon. Nice way to show the dado capabilities of the RAS, AND ... a cleaner, quicker way to cut the tenon. Again ... very nice vid !

Great video on the much forgotten radial arm saw by Dewalt. Your technique for ripping is not quite correct. Rotate the blade guard until it just touches the board being ripped, lower the anti-kick pawl and your set to go.

AT FIRST IT SEENS NICE,BUT IT IS AN EXPENSIVE TOOL AND THE OPERATER DOES NOT SEE THE PIECE WHEN IT IS CUTTING.
