Exactly what I was looking for in a 715 vs 716 comparison. Straight to the point. Hit all the major differences. Very good presentation. Looking forward to other reviews. How about the 779 vs 716?

  • @ToolCraze

    @ToolCraze

    4 жыл бұрын

Main difference is the 779 is a larger saw and a slider but doesn't have the built in LED shadow light system. The 779 is basically a 780 with a few missing features

One thing worth noting, is that last time I was in home depot and lowes, looking at these saws, thinking about adding a 715 to the tool arsenal, to my surprise, dewalt is silently killing compatibility with the xps led system. This is true in the 713, 715, and 716. I bought my 713 used for this reason. I really, really love the led, because it cast a perfect shadow of the blade kerf onto the work piece for a damn near perfect cut every time. That being said, these are still the most outstanding saws I have ever used, and I absolutely love them.

  • @ToolCraze

I've heard that about the compatibility. I did some research and couldn't find out which type doesn't have compatibility. Said compatible with models 1-4 but weird that it doesn't say compatible with all models. I looked at the pdf manual for type 4 and says it's compatible with both lights. Also when I was at Lowe's I looked at the box in store for the dw716 and said it right there on the box it was compatible with both lights. I even took a picture, but I couldn't find any info on the box about what type 1-4 it was. On the parts website I could see 5 models: type 1, type 2, type 20, type 3, type 4. I wonder if type 20 is the oddball

  • @MatthewFant

Javier, I'm ready to upgrade my tools soon and would really appreciate your opinion (or even a tool comparison review) for the following tools. I'm torn because I've grown to really appreciate the smaller/lighter tools I use for most jobs but Eric and Dan at TiA really like the Dewalt 20v brushless compacts. Impact driver: Dewalt 20v brushless compact DCF895 vs Milwaukee M12 2453 Hammer drill/driver: Dewalt 20v brushless compact DCD795 vs Milwaukee M12 2404 Thank you, Javier!!!

Out of all those I've only tried the m12 fuel impact. So it's hard for me to comment on the others without having tried them. I really like the m12 fuel but personally I like having both 12v and 18v tools and choose between the 2. If you can afford them I would get both impacts. I cant suggests both drills though to own at the same time, too similar from a spec standpoint, but then again like i said I haven't tried them. I like having a 12v and a heavy duty 18v combination.

+David Lowrance I'll keep it under consideration, it's quite simple actually and can easily be explained. Remove both fences- that's it really. With the fences now gone you can use the built in back fence, although you will need a wide 2x lumber underneath to support the one being cut

Hey Javier! I am looking for a 12" compound miter saw and one thing I noticed about the DW715 is that only the Type 3 is being sold (at least everywhere I looked). The DW715 Type 3 is not compatible with the optional laser accessory. It's a shame because the DW715 is $199 now on Amazon with free shipping, while I can find the DW716 for $330.

  • @ToolCraze

That's too bad about the compatibility issue. I've heard about it I just didn't know what models and types. $199 is a good deal for the dw715 and atleast you can buy those laser attachments that go next to the blade although probably not as good as the dewalt laser accessory

What size bolts do you need to mount that to the table? My DWS715 didn't come with those bolts and I can't find that information anywhere. I can pick bolts up with washers and lock washer up at a hardware store easy, i just wanna know what size i need before going there. Hey tool crazy. What is better, a laser guide or a shadow guide? I used to have a saw with laser but never used it. I would just drop the blade down to the wood right on my line and then I would start cutting. Does the dw715 come with a shadow guide accessories? Thanks.

jgdoollc They're both good at doing the same job, the LED light is nice because it requires no adjustment to line it up and automatically determines blade thickness I don't think the DW715 comes with it included

Awesome! Thank you! You may want to create affiliate marketing links with amazon and other sites. That way if I click on the link and buy it amazon would give you a small piece of the pie. You deserve it!

I bought the 713 10 inch single for doing my home projects but I ended up with the Type 2 so I took it back coz it would not accept the light or laser. I went to 6 stores looking for a 716 that takes the light/laser. Can you tell me the difference between the types (1, 2, 3, 4 & 20)? The only thing I found out so far is that the Type 20 will not take the light/laser.

Tony D not sure what all the differences are between types. Could be minor manufacturer differences but you can always contact DeWalt for more info. I've heard about the incompatibility with types before although I didn't know which type was affected. At the time I did this video, Lowes was carrying some on stock that were compatible with the laser, I even took a picture- says compatible with laser on the box

Anybody own this saw? I've read some reviews that claim the motor is underpowered and bogs down on thicker wood and the bolt to change the blades is a hassle...

  • @ToolCraze

Hey there, I used to own this saw. You should watch my video review to see if this saw is weak and can't handle thicker wood. I'm not sure if I covered how to change a blade, but it does require more steps to change a blade since the blade guard has to be moved out of the way to access the blade bolt. Whether that's a hassle is subjective however it requires more steps than a circular saw. I'd say someone is lazy if they think a couple of extra steps is a hassle for something that has to be done every once in a long long while. As far as cutting thicker wood, you really should watch this video to see how it performs with your own eyes. What you heard sounds to me like whoever owned this saw needed to replace their blade. Yes, blades do become dull and need replacing after so much use.

This was an informative video. Very informative. "LIKE". Would have liked to see a little more detail about the accessories that 'should' have been included, and seen them in action. The crown stop for example. You mentioned it could also be used as a repetitive length cut stop? How would you mount it in that case? Dewalt's website is awful. I can't find the accessories anywhere on their website other than in the user's manual. They don't even list them wiht the saw (I was just there right before I watched this) Anyway - good job. You've about made my mind up for me with this video. Thank you again.

Thanks. The problem with this saw, at least the one I bought was that if you look at other brands, they include at least a material clamp as standard. And many more include extensions as standard as well. I've since sold this saw and the 20v miter saw and bought the dhs790

Javier, awesome video man! I have the first model of this saw before the clamp for locking the table. I was wondering if you could tell me if you know how to square up the fence? My left and right side fences seem to be out of alignment. CJ

Case 275 thanks CJ. Hey sorry for the late reply, I had to go take a look first before I said anything. On my miter saw there aren't any adjustments for either back fences other than being able to slide them left and right or remove completely. If these are out of square then it would mean either the base that holds the fences or the fences themselves are bent but you did say yours was the older model so I don't know if that one has the ability to adjust. Sorry I couldn't be much help.

I'm not sure if they still sell the add ons but I'd try amazon as a start. But really, I'd recommend the LED light system instead, it's way better than lasers and this model already comes with it, at least mine did.

  • @TheLatestChance

ToolCrazy To be honest I smiled a little. :) OMT stands for oscillating multi tool. Like the Fein MultiMaster, DeWALT DWE315 or Bosch GOP 250 for example. These are really handy tools because of their multifunctionality. You can cut pvc pipes, wood, thin steel, use them as a small sander, use them for grinding and much more. I think that is why these things are called OMT. Really cool lightweight tools and highly efficient.

ToolCrazy Cool, thanks. I kinda remember that Dan and Eric from "Tools in Action" call them OMT's. I think it was Dan. Or maybe it was Rob Robillard from the channel "A Concord Carpenter". Yeah, the M12 from Milwaukee is also a good candidate for a test. A cordless or corded multi tool for the review? What do you think, Javier?
