Ha! I think I shook hands with you at that CES show! It WAS a great room.. if I remember correctly, you played a Jackie Wilson 78 first after I arrived and I was gobsmacked. Everybody in the room was loving the music that day.

You're talking about all these exacting settings and mega-expensive components with some type of stone platter, etc., but your source- your disc, is wobbling and jumping around. Totally imperfect perfection. And even new vinyl will _always_ be imperfect, because you will always have noise being added in to the equation.

HH Scott made a great little tube preamp with lots of the older curves. But if you can find one of the KAB branded Souvenir model phono preamps, get one. They are the most comprehensive phono preamp that is still an affordable component. The curves go from 1900 on up and provide loading for MC and MC with 12 resistance settings. They're used by the Library of Congress for archiving.

Wow John, as Steve would say " I'm gobsmacked" What a tease though. I would love to hear even a bit of a 78. I've always thought there was something great to that medium for the time. Prove me right.

Saw one of them for sale on HiFi Shark, so I sent a message to ask for the price. I thought it is a lot more affordable...oooo I was so damn wrong :) Definitely one of the best preamplifiers of all time :)

oh I was wondering what little box that is on top - a remote that's cute. If you have a chance to get your hands on an EMT 930 record player they are awesome too (but you want it with the subframe), and IMO the best sounding EMT pickup is the one they make for Roksan the "Shiraz" (I only know the blue one, no clue if the black one is different).

Question. Who made that handsome gear rack in wood the EMT sits on? Thank you!

When i lived opposite a radio station that was about to close down in Düsseldorf, i picked one of these EMT phono preamps out of a skip ...Awe schukks, i dreamt it. I have an innocent question that definitely crossed the mind of every single visitor here except owners of this same EMT model but even then! I don't seek to pry & when it comes to what sacrifices we'll endure or how very far we'll go purely for the love of music ...well, it ranks above all except the roof above our heads. Even tho i'll never come across one or afford it if i did but Stuff like this is so very interesting to vinyl heads & this EMT seems like the best of the best. Please quench our burning curiosity & pray tell how much would it cost to buy an EMT phono pre like this being sold at the "going-rate" by someone in the 'know'

Mr. DeVore, I follow your channel regularly and I am increasingly curious about your loudspeakers. But this particular video caused me such a great curiosity that I would be very pleased if you could be so kind as to clarify it. At 1:55 you affirm that the EMT JPA 66 is one of the best preamps placing it in the top three sets you have ever tried. What would the other two be? Greetings from Brazil.

Some late 78's do use the RIAA curve.

If you can get line level out of the preamp, why not make a couple 78 recordings available for download somewhere?

John, a question. On your videos, when You play your records, You don’t use a weight??? Why???

Hm, interesting. My dream preamp is the DartZeel battery powered preamp, but at $53K I'd have to sell a lot of my gear to get one. The only way I was able to build the system I have, is slowly over time and making friends and buying from within the industry. Sell a piece, put some more money in and get the next piece up. It's impressive what we're able to get with decades of continuous effort, like how a diamond is formed, constant pressure over time. I get comments form people like "I wish I could afford that" and I ask them, "well what have you done in the last 10 years to upgrade your system?" The answer is usually nothing. But they drive an expensive car, and take vacations often, have cable TV, or a lot of other things I do without. Systems like this just don't fall out of the sky, for the majority of us, it's a sacrifice, and a major investment. Congrats on your preamp. Well deserved.

I'm poor and that hadn't been an obstacle to own the TA-ER1, TA-E1, TA-E90ES, TA-E80ES and the A/V preamp TA-E2000ESD, all from sony😁

Cash-strapped music lovers who are into or think they might want to get into 78s in a serious way should be tempted to buy a 1920's Victrola or similar. And you might as well get one with an integrated (hidden) tuned horn. Volume up? Open cabinet doors. Volume down? Close cabinet doors. The room-filling sound can be astonishing. Incredibly dynamic, immediate, and expressive. There are no EQ knobs to adjust, and they still sound great when the power goes out. :)

Now show us the spleen of the system, audiophool.

$41,000!!?? Damn, thats an expensive piece of equipment!

Strange that the components used in that amplifier are so mediocre, most capacitors are the cheapest version of Audyn Cap. Audio Research for instance uses much better quality components.
