@@Qwerty-ks8dn This is your opinion, NOT a fact. Empath was conceived, written and recorded by Devin for Devin himself, not for his fans. It's music that describes a journey. That journey was and is Devin himself. We are not supposed to like it, it's not for us. He has done loads of albums for those 'other' reasons, but this is not one of them. If fans like it, great. A lot of fans like anything and everything that their idols put out, and that's ok too. Personally, I find it hard to connect with Empath. It doesn't resonate with me, but I do love 'Why?' For me it's the best track on the album. But...... that's my opinion, and no, it's not a fact either! ;-)

@@Lectric_Blue Are you copy-pasting what Townsend's been saying in all the interviews? You need to read between the lines more. You're suggesting he made all the other albums for "others" and that is asinine. The most you could say this of is "Sky Blue" and "Transcendence", definitely not the other albums. Besides, since those two albums are 50 times better than "Empath", perhaps we can conclude he's better at writing music for others than when he's being overly self-indulgent and undisciplined.

I don´t know why but some Devin´s songs make me cry like a child.

@@mgonzalez8880 He admitted he tried to write a corporate hit a few years ago with some hotshot producer. It didn't work out. Now he's trying it again, albeit veiled in "progressive metal" clothing. Why is just an awful cheesy bomb. Spirits Will Collide and Sprite are similarly awful.

I haven't been able to stop thinking about this video since Ive seen it, and the subsequent...twentyish times I've rewatched it. There is INTENSE, profound meaning at the heart of it. There's a concept in alchemy (and also jungian psychology): “in sterquiliniis invenitur," latin for "in filth you will find it." In other words, the idea that what you need to find will be in the place you least want to look. Our guy here gets a brief hint of what the void really is (unfiltered by the ship's window) and throws himself headlong into the center of it. And what does he find when he reaches the center of the void, the thing that everyone else is running away from, is scared to face head-on? He finds HIMSELF. And he embraces that part of himself that lies at the center of what he initially wanted to escape, and becomes more than he was before, what he truly is.

I get stuck on the feeling of understanding what it's like to be stuck somewhere you don't want to be (the ship/with these people in the video) and then the free feeling of him dancing on the exterior when he breaks out. I just started listening to his music a couple weeks ago and have been semi binging anything i can listen to it. Even on his songs that i cant quite understand fully, you can tell he pours everything hes got into his music whether i enjoy certain songs or not, hes giving 110 percent. He would probably really appreciate knowing how his music has this effect on your life. This song popped up during a really bad day and its been my go-to to get myself focused again

In a 100 years people will be analyzing this work of art like we do Bach or Mozart. This is unbelievable.

Don't get overwhelmed. I'm a composer myself, believe me it's so far from Bach and Mozart like Earth to Saturn. It is indeed a great little song but nothing more. It takes only about a few hours to compose such an easy song. The orchestration was really well made it take a bit more time but that is it. It is the vocal part which way nice, but in terms of artistry it is not even the same league.

Wow...just wow...Sending mad love and respect to all you Devin Townsend fans out there...we get it...light workers we are...

I have been singing all my life, professionally and otherwise. I saw Devin live back in the 80s when he toured with Steve Vai in the sex and religion tour. I have never experienced such and amazing display of control, texture and incredible power as Devin has in his voice. Bar none one of the best singers of all time. Hats off Devin. Keep doing the crazy shit you do. Can’t get enough!!!

Devin as an artist is bittersweet. Part of you wants everyone to know who he is but at the same time you want his music all for yourself.

I get what you're saying but I want everyone to enjoy his music. The only part that is non-negotiable is exactly that, that it's enjoyed by people. I don't really mind when some piece of music gets to be mainstream if it's because people are enjoying it, the only thing I mind is when people see music the same way the see fast food or rather as just another mindless consumable here for that short-lived dopamine hit.

I laughed for like a solid ten minutes when this song came on while I was listening to the album. I love how random it is. I love how the song is literally what I thought when I heard it. I love this song with my whole heart. It's my favorite song on this album, and that's saying a lot since I listen to the album all the time. Seriously Devin Townsend is my favorite person.

Devin is his own genre. My recommendation for your next song is Deadhead Live at the Royal Albert. His time in Strapping Young Lad was amazing too. The song Love? is my personal favorite, I'd recommend listening to a more recent upload than the official music video. It was released during the end of the time where audio compression was absolutely horrendous. Be warned, his music is like quicksand.

I can't stop playing this song. Dev is Dev, he does his own thing and he really is a creative genius, he has no rules and has such an incredible voice to back up his songwriting talents. Seems such a shame that after like 25 albums and such devotion to his craft that he is not comparable to many chart topping acts, life does seem unjustly fair sometimes.

This type of song can only be composed and performed by a genious who is brave enough and have the backbone to do it! One of the very few musicians in this day and age who can pull this off . Enormous respect to Devin Townsend to make this wonderful music (that goes for the whole Empath album)

When this song came on the first time listening through Empath, I forgot where I was and what I was doing. I thought, "Wait, is this a musical?" I still feel that way now. This is a song from a musical. And I hope it gets a new generation of metalheads into theater.

City is great, I got it from my early years of headbanger lol, now I don't tend to listen metal music or so, but I still loving that album.
