    @@BossMovieReactions What's shocking about Keanu's performance in that scene is it actually predates the death of his girlfriend/wife Jennier Syrne. Watching it you would think Keanu was pulling real grief. In 1999, he had a stillborn child with Jennifer. they had met just a year before. She later died after crashing her jeep while under the influence. The amount of pain Keanu went through from 1993 through the early 2000s is something. He lost his best friend, River Phoenix to a drug overdose, a daughter, a wife... A lot of that paint would later be used as inspiration for John Wick.

    Kevin Lomax never was forced into any situation. He did it all of his own free will. He was even told by John that he can step aside to take care of his wife. He chose his path. this is one of the great films! "Call me dad", one of the best lines; and the Devils speech when the ghosts are chasing Eddie Barzoon is up there with Quints speech in Jaws. The fact that you were both speechless at the end i think, shows what a brilliant film this is. It acts on many levels, morality, greed, freewill, spirituality and capitalism. Pacino stole the show on this one. Theron did a great job carrying the sub-plot that sold it. Vanity - my favourite sin!

    I do that same thing....when the films touch me emotionally....my chest heaves just like this fella. I sing in public a lot and certain songs have the same effect. That monologue by Pachino....the one where he indites God for how he set up the world is amazing and its probably why they chose to name the Devil "John Milton". Paradise Lost is generally read as a defense of the Devil. Its suggesting that Satan did not lie to Eve about the apple but, was infact telling her the truth....that eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.... wouldn't kill her but, make her stronger or more aptly, wiser. the bible clearly states there are 2 Trees in the Garden. The Tree of Knowledge and The Tree of Life. Christian tradition tells us the Serpent tempted Eve with everlasting life....Milton claims the devil was honest and wanted Adam and Eve to join his rebellion against God. This is why Pacino screams "I'm a fan of man". Hes sick of being held responsible for all the evil created by mankind when hes actually trying to empower us to help him topple the unjust rulership of Yaweh. William Blake claims that Milton, in his epic poem Paradise Lost, was "of the Devil's party without knowing it." Meaning that Blake believed Milton was subconsciously glorifying Satan by expressing the story in Genesis, of the fall of man, from the Grace of God...from the Devil's point of veiw.

I first saw this movie around 2006 or 2007, and although I couldn't put it in my "Best of the Best" movie list, it's definitely as close as possible to my all-time favorites. I can understand why some people classify it as one of the best movies ever made. It is indeed filled with lots of meanings and you can discuss it and analyze it for hours! Honestly, I start enjoying more watching reactions to movies - like you make - rather than seeing the movies myself for the 10th time. You guys are my favorite reactors so far! Wow, David, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. We appreciate your analysis and your kind words. I think Charlize Theron's acting was outstanding! The way she portrayed "schizophrenia" was incredible. I know she spent a lot of time with a psycho-therapist in order to get prepared. I see "Oscar" performances all over this movie! (:

    That was a hell of a movie … wasn’t it? I’ll be very careful about making further suggestions, as it seems that everything I would have suggested, you already have on your list, so with great caution and referring to Charlize Theron, what comes to my mind is a very nice comedy - Trial And Error … there you’ll also see Jeff Daniels again (was that on your list?). Even if it is Sunday, tomorrow I have to travel to another city to do some work … which made me transition into a sh**ty mood … but then I saw your reaction and my mood got back on track for at least one more week - as it always does. I was a sophomore in college when this came out in 1997, and I remember talking to my best friend about it afterwards one late night. It spooked us both. We began discussing the Bible more after that, and we still do! I also enjoyed 8:07 where Kevin’s mom went right, while Kevin & Marianne drove left. A biblical reference to the sheep at God’s right hand of everlasting preservation, and the goats at his left and everlasting destruction. 😨

    The "Devil's Advocate" is something actually "exists". I live in Rome. When a priest is to made saint or not a court is called, while a side tries to convince the passed away priest is to be saint for several reason, one priest tries to convince the council he is not to be made saint for other reasons. just to have an impartial judgement (it's never impartial). The priest convincing the guy is not worthy of ascendancy to sanctity is called "the devil's advocate".

    Probably the best performance of the devil. This movie does a good job of revealing the corruptibility of the human spirit, and how easily we can be blinded by our emotions. Although Pacino is playing a supernatural figure in this film, we all know people like him, who manipulate and play other people. It's not just what MIlton says, it's when he lets the silence linger, and he let's the room fill with tension. He knows how to push buttons. That doesn't mean Kevin is absolved, not at all. He's arrogant, greedy, lustful, prideful, and, yes, vain. Watching Marryanne crumble and be destroyed is so true to reality. On rewatches its even more painful because you just want Kevin to stop and love his wife. Just go home, man.

  • @TriarchVisgroup

    @TriarchVisgroup

    12:52 very subtle bit of acting here by Pacino. He's slightly disappointed in his son. Just slightly. You can detect the twinge. "Yeah... That's the easy part." Throughout the movie the devil is both manipulating Kevin, but also trying to get him to cultivate his full potential. It's weird and twisted in a way, because the Devil can't really "love" in the true sense, but there is some kind of a fatherly element to his relationship with Kevin, buried under layers of distortion and perversion.

    I forgot to say I’m a actor here in the UK and giving stand up comedy 🎭 a blast once I’ve completed a comedy course in June and then I will perform. I’m a working actor but doing a lot of featured extra roles on foreign movies or low budget gangster movies so I feel career isn’t going anywhere quick. I can perform and have confidence in myself and always prepared professional and work hard to achieve my ambition. As film makers yourself’s, if you working on a project and willing to give a attractive (like yourself’s) confident hard working professional English performer, I’m your man. I would be prepared to perform on set with no pay. So I can get the chance to prove what I can do and live and breathe the character I play. Great reaction! I think this is one of the best movies to show Satan's personality, and the manipulative tactics that he uses to ensnare us. It's in the same class as The Exorcist. I wanted to say this in response to your end comments. I say this as a long time believer, a Bible College graduate, and a former yputh pastor. Satan isn't everywhere. He is not all knowing or all powerfull. He can't read ypur mind. Only God can. But he wants to make you think he can do what God can do. What he does is send his fallen angels (demons) to observe us. They have observed our families since the begining. Infact, I wouldn't be surprised if ever demon had an office filled with files on every family assigned to them. The Bible describes Satan as The Accuser, which makes it very fitting that he should be interested in law. That angry speech at the end? That was his closing argument against Kevin. And us. Jesus died to save humanity, one person at a time. Its a gift we don't deserve, to save us from the penalty we do deserve.

    Love this movie. So amazingly well done. Gotta be in the right mood. For some reason I always think of Angel Heart in the same vein as this. My guess is you have never seen it. It is really unknown and under appreciated.

    Just found your channel. I love Keanu movies. Please do Speed if you never saw it. Point Break (1991) is also a blast. Also, your crying made me cry. Love to see people who get so invested in movies!

    Absolutely beautiful reaction to a film I love. Al Pacino is so amazing as the Devil. Charisma and false warmth in his performance. Hard to do in my opinion.... Your reaction was class on top of it, I love the way you both feel the films you watch... I have only seen 2 of your reactions so far but both have been amazing and I look forward to more.

    Hi Nicky, thank you so much for your kind words. Yes, Al Pacino's performance was Oscar-worthy in my opinion. I'm happy you found our channel. And I love your kitty pic. See ya at the next one! (:

    If you haven't seen it yet, IMO one of THE best goodVSevil films ever is the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, I'd love to hear you discuss that. 🌞

    I'm not sure who the male reactor is, so my apologies. He might be the most empathetic reactor I've ever seen, though. Never watched anything quite like it. It's heart warming to see that level of empathy.

    Aw, Macca15, this is such a nice thing to say. I really appreciate your kind words. Thank you. Someone from the audience (a psychologist) said that I'm a natural "Empath." I didn't even know what that was, so I looked it up. Anyway, thanks for watching, and maybe also check out "CAST AWAY", I think you're going to love it. Best - Mike & Jessica. (:
