also unlike Dante and Nero his moves come out on pressing not after the pressing, means if you charge an attack with Nero the first hit doesn't come out until you release the trigger but for V always the first hit comes out and then starts charging

As far as my advice for V goes, high level V should look almost like V is dancing around the enemy, having Shadow and Griffon lay on a constant barrage of attacks (whether it be Shadow attacking with a powerful Griffon follow-up or both at the same time) and using V himself to keep the heat off of his Familiars.

something that piss me off when i play v is that sometimes when i stop attacking with shadow to make him start a new move he always disappears and spawns next to me, sometimes actually helps to avoid him getting killed with a super damage attack from a boss but still

Yeah this was an adjustment, you gotta find that Goldilocks zone and be patient with Shadow, Griffon not nearly as much, worst trouble I have with him is getting him to use double check after dodging with him. I always end up using his regular chrarge.

There is one other thing you can do as V, a sort of "weapon of last resort" you can use if you are at your absolute wits end. I discovered it by accident, and once I did it, I went from needing 20+ tries per mission for S Ranks on Hell and Hell to doing each one on my first or second try. It's that powerful. Be warned; this will absolutely trivialize the game as V, and is only to be used if you are okay with being a little scummy. Once you have felt this power, tasted this fruit of forbidden knowledge, it might be hard to go back. Are you ready? Okay, ultimate power reveal coming in 3... 2... 1... _Auto Assist._ I'm dead serious. I turned it on by accident in mission 5 Hell and Hell and it absolutely annihilated the game. Auto Assist as Dante and Nero is a liability on higher difficulties because it removes control of your character to do the moves it wants to do, but with V, it's not your character you're controlling for the most part; it's your pets. Auto Assist turns them into absolute murder machines who intelligently seek out and attack foes with their full moveset as long as you're pressing buttons. Combined with the camera trick, Griffon and Shadow will absolutely annihilate enemies that are powerless to stop them. You don't even need to look to see when they need to be finished off; V will automatically teleport to and finish any downed enemy in the vicinity as long as you're pressing buttons. And if you're using the camera trick, there is no chance of him teleporting into an attack by accident, because attacks cannot be initiated off camera. With auto assist and the camera trick, the game becomes a complete joke even at the hardest difficulties. The only things that are even remotely challenging are the bosses, and even they are markedly easier because auto assist makes your pets so much better at seeking them out and attacking them intelligently. Sure, you get a 0.8x multiplier for using auto assist, but the 1.2x No Continues and 2.0x No Damage multipliers more than cancel it out, and rest assured that both of those are easily within your grasp using this method. Is it scummy? Yes, absolutely, but to my mind, it's no more scummy than using the camera trick or the Faust hat. It's an exploit, but it's not cheating; this is part of the game, and the game is programed to account for it and punish you accordingly. So now you know. You may decry me, call me scum, but in the wee hours of night, when you're screaming at the TV because Elder Geryon ruined your No Damage bonus for the eightieth time, this knowledge will whisper to you in the back of your mind. Who cares how you do it? They won't see your gameplay videos; only the shiny string of S Ranks. They won't see your camera trickery or systemic manipulation, only your beautiful Platinum trophy. No one ever has to know. The fruit of forbidden knowledge will tempt you, as it tempted me. Will you submit to its allure? Only time will tell... 😈

I've got other tips. V's DT gauge is much more varying than any other character's. Conserving and using it properly is key to playing V effectively. If you have time, read from your book to constantly regain DT. Use DT on making Griffon fight on his own, and summoning Nightmare to revive stalemated familiars. If you're in danger, summon Nightmare and sit on his back until the enemies are cleared away. Additionally, don't be afraid to teleport to an enemy and Enemy Step off of them to stay mobile and escape other nearby threats.

Promotion also slows DT drain to a crawl, as if you were reading the book the whole time to offset the drain while on the ground. However, actions make it drain faster. So if you just wanna be invulnerable for a long time. Do that.

I thought you would mention positioning with your pets, as well as relocating with V. I noticed most players just stay at range with V, which I consider to be a fatal flaw, especially on DMD. V has insane mobility by himself, and teleporting with his cane to any enemy is useful. When something attacks you, teleport to something else. Dodging backwards or double jumping cancels Griffons charges and makes him come to you. Dodging sideways will put Shadow right next to you and cancel his charges. Jumping and then attack with Shadow is an easy way to resummon him at an enemy location. Summoning Nightmare has insane I-frames on V. You can use it to dodge moves with ease or to get the i-frames needed to avoid a gang-bang. Be offensive with this. It is instant and has a minor interrupt effect on enemies around you. Reading the book is not always the most useful, since using taunts can net you DT as well, jumping up and air taunt near an enemy is an easy way to fill up that bar. Most of his ground taunts are very long, and satisfying to pull off, but doesn't pay off until way later into the taunt. You cannot control the DT boosted summons, at all. Enhancing Griffon or Shadow will make them autoplay. If you feel like you're in a spot where you need to focus on yourself. You can remove one or two of them from your mind by just boosting them and leaving them to their own devices for a few seconds. Wait until bosses stand still to summon Nightmare to make sure his entrance slaps them. Summoning Nightmare oddly enough makes a lot of enemies swap focus to him. Some fights are won by summoning Nightmare just to get yourself the free space needed to move around. Your summon canes move is insanely good at clearing up mobs that are in a dying state around you without putting yourself at risk. Trying to kill a Behemoth with its 5 or so second long animation can kill you, but a spin of the stick and a summon cane will take care of it. It is extremely useful in the Hell and Hell mode where enemies die so fast from your charge attacks and Nightmare, but you die so fast if you mistime your clean up strikes. Remember to aoe remove the chaff every now and then.

@ The DT for Familiars: While they do enter auto play, pressing actions for them makes them do those actions. I.e charging spikes, Shadow's Launcher, Griffon's Lightning Streak. The initial activation forces them into a specific move everytime and will do said move after they finish the attack they were already doing.

Remember you can stack DT onto griffin and shadow to increase the duration. A single charge doesn’t last too long.

I feel dting shadow makes him get alot farther from you so long as you dont press anything but i dont much play as him after beating dmd

I haven't done DmD or H and H with V yet, but from my experimentations I noticed a couple of things that could be useful to know 1.Use Royal Fork as Crowd Crontrol, Defensive Maneuver and to generate Style, it doesn't do much damage but it does damage to everyone, and stunts/interrumps more common enemies for the duration of the animation 2. Always use "Touch and Move" after a Gambit/Checkmate, it grants you extra Style points even if there are no enemies left, and always try to use this moves as finishers instead of Royal Fork, as combined they give you way more Style Rank 3. Stay close to your familiars so they don't interrup their attacks by returning to your side, and use or spam your defensive moves (Lock On+Back Jump - Lock On+Left/Right Jump) to quickly heal your familiars, they gain a big chunk of heal by being in direct contact to you, and stay away from harm 4. And, I'm not sure about this one yet, but it seems that the quicker you Finish an enemy after they got in the Downed state or however it is called, the more Style you get, if you can Finish an enemy the instant they enter this state and use "Touch and Move" you can go from low D to mid A rank, maybe even S with the right attacks, all with just one Empusa. Also, sorry for my horrible English

to avoid damge while theyre (familiars) attacking, with shadow you can dodge to the right or left to make him spawn near you and save him and with griffin you can do his little fly animation to make him spawn to you, might help to survive deadly attacks

Anyone else think its bullshit how Shadow and Griffon die in one hit on hell and hell? I know thats the point of the difficulty but I feel like it makes the game more annoying than it does challenging, especially since you dont have as much control over them as you do with V. Like at least when I get hit with Dante and Nero it actually feels like i made a mistake

Joshua ikr. You have to manage 3 lives which becomes frustrating against bosses especially the mission 14 boss rush.

This is super helpful, mainly because whenever I play as V I feel ineffectual and kinda dumb.

Great tips, but for min-maxing damage with Griffon himself (SINGLE TARGET DAMAGE ONLY); Do the charged lightning (level one, not two or three). As soon as you let go of the button, buffer a forward + x to make Griffon charge. As soon as he charges, start holding X again. You can do it really early and get a super fast charge, and then loop this exact thing. Shadow's skewer then can be brought into this for insane single target damage. This is the best single-target damage in the game for V specifically.

Fun fact: if you checkmate an empusa while you're grounded, you can repeatedly and possibly violently mash the B/O button to stab them for more style and satisfaction.

Just a heads up, auto attack is D.T. + melee/gun. You have D.T. mapped to D-pad, but if you're using standard controls, D.T. is mapped to L1/LB.

My bad, auto attack is another button, you're right. On standard mapping, it's L2/LT, not L1/LB.

Another tip I'd give is to use Left Or Right + Jump whenever a big attack is going to hit your familiars to perform a dodge using Shadow. Using this move will instantly teleport Shadow to you and allow Shadow to evade damage from the upcoming attack. Of course, try to do a double jump to allow Griffon to evade damage as well. Also remember that you can still have Griffon/Shadow attack while you are knocked down or while you are killing an enemy. Once I re-assigned my controls and understood how Nightmare revives your pet demons, I had an absolute blast playing as V. My FIRST attempt on Bloody Palace as V, I made it to stage 99. That's further than any of my BP attempts with Nero and Dante. o_O With the Green Gainer ability and these tips, the Bloody palace almost couldn't kill me. Except when I made it to stage 99 (Urizen) that is... But I was close to beating him. My controls are: L1 for Griffon R1 for lock-on X for Jump Square for Shadow Circle for Cane Triangle does nothing D-Pad for DT L2 for Auto-Attack R2 for Book

It's eerie how correct you are about the enemies being on camera before they attack.

One trick I like to use with V is that you can charge attacks in the middle of other attacks. For shadow his standard combo B and C variants have quite long animations but only require one input, if you hold down the attack button from them by the time the animation finishes it'll be ready to use hedgehog. For gryphon I find the dive bomb (think that's it's name, it's lock on + forward + gryphon button) can help with charging the standard attack, at least once.

He is ass because he cannot attack on he's own ( the cane does as much damage as the pistol ... ) so in HorH // HorH // DMD he might be bad Buut other difficulties ? He is good + so far V is the hardest to master because you control 2 at once 3 nightmare 4 if you go for the kill ...

In the mission when you have to get your demons back one by one during a boss rush, I learned how nice using DT is on shadow. Went Cav Angelo first and picked shadow, and good god it trivializes the fight. I was actually able to get through that entire mission without continues my first time through in DMD.

Underrated DMC KZreadr. Have really been enjoying your content and your longplay streams have inspired me to attempt S Ranking all the modes (been struggling but hanging in there). Keep it coming!

I actually like playing as V. He has a pretty unique play style but it does annoys me how the summons sometimes wont do what I want.

Same, people complain that he is too easy and that just mashing button and you get S rank, which is true in some situations but i struggle most against air enemies because getting Shadow into positions where he can flip up and attack them is a pain in the ass he can some time attack air enemies on the ground but i have no idea how to trigger it and ended up doing normal attack on the ground

Also make sure to abuse the Royal fork. It has good damage, its multiple targets at the cost of 1 DT bar and it instant kill any enemy that can be checkmated.

I find him the easiest to use in Bloody Palace. Once you know how to attack with 2 familiars simultaneously you can really decimate enemies

actually, a great technique to do with V is to combine 3 of the tricks here in a fight, summon nightmare, find a corner to turn the camera on yourself and start reading your book, while nightmare is out and you are reading the DT slows down dramatically so he can stay in for most of a fight if you do it right, boss fights are a bit tougher are the camera can go all over the place but just spam nightmare and combo with the other two, and hes right about mapping out to where you can use griffon and shadows buttons either together or by shoulder triggers cause that helps out a LOT! listen to him, he knows what hes doin

Sit in a camera corner and read nonstop. Got it.

I’m kind of confused?... so to augment and auto attack you’ve mapped that input to the D-pad or is that just using devil trigger attacks?

I have a question about camera manipulation. Does lowering camera distance make it harder to use or does it not matter? Also I've heard camera tracking is better off is that true or not? I guess I'm looking for the best camera settings.

What makes him so awkward for me is having to evade (which breaks off the familiars to save me) which makes them appear next to me… and the other thing is having to “finish them” which puts me at risk to be hit. I may need to practice more but I can’t say I really like the mechanics as a whole as V, Dante I’m getting double S’s, Nero double S’s

When it come to bloddy palace, it is very hard to use V. Been using dante and Vergil since dmc 3. But V it is a new level of mastery.

HEY Star this or something. V's Sidestep/Dodge is 100% Invincible. Easy way to avoid damage from bosses or other enemies, keep sidestepping consecutively. Whether its Left to Right, or Right to Right. You are 100% Invincible as long as you keep doing this. *Summoning Nightmare also makes you stupid Invincible as well. *** Shadow is required for your Sidestep so if you want spammy area control, you could just do the camera glitch.

Leon Smith I agree. Just remember that the camera can fuck you over and switch it so that you use griffins dodge instead of shadow. That happened to me a lot on mission 14 against cavalier angelo.

I found that the holding R1/RB back to forward triangle/Y is a serious boss killer even on DMD, especially the mission where you fight the fake versions of the 3 bosses, no damage from the Cavalier and Goliath, but kind of got whipped by Artermis as usual.

Ooh I haven't thought about it. I guess just keep that camera as close to your character as possible and look at a corner. I think that should be enough for the enemies to not be able to attack or get in the view

I rather enjoy v honestly it's all about 8f you can multitask

Whether people like playing him or not he has a very solid concept that not only fits but expands the limits of what combat in Devil May Cry can be outside of head-on combat like with Nero or to a lesser extent, Dante whom is accessible to play from multiple angles but difficult to truly master all of them and use them as one.

Should my priority be to augment the familiars or summon nightmare with dt gauge?

I had no idea you could charge his Devil trigger. I his DT was my “oh shit button” now it’s my “back so soon button”

I'm a beginner V player and I'm learning to use V

Complete newb to DMC. Currently trying to S-rank everything in Human mode, it's become easy with V or Nero for me, but Dante is giving me tons of trouble. It's almost like there's too many options and I get overwhelmed not knowing what to do and just end up getting hit before I decide which move I need to use. I've S-ranked most of his missions but I keep falling short in certain ones.

@H K How do I perfect my Royal guard..I see ppl saying how royal guard is op against so many bosses (esp Vergil and Cerberus) while using royal guard for me was one of the main reasons I failed LOL. After dying 40+ times to Vergil and Cerberus each on DMD, I just gave up and cheesed with dr Faust. In order to get more DT gauge air taunts are far easier for me idk why.

one more tip, seem lot of ppl still thought nightmare is uncontrolable unkess u do promotion. actually even without promotion, nightmare will still focus attack on the enemy u are targeting, u just cant control which attack he is gonna use. so if you position him good enough, u could make nightmare laser attack to hit every enemy

Pretty much, it wasn’t the tips that got me through most DMD bosses, it was trial and error and building a strategy. רותם טמסות Well except Cav Angelo, I just DT’d the shit out of Shadow.

How do you make the lighting look like that?

After getting used to V's controls and how he's meant to be played (grace under pressure and chaos, in other words taunting a lot whilst wild shit happens around you), V can be broken lol

The perfect example of a character balanced around a single difficulty. He feels good only on Son of Sparda. Too OP on Human and Devil Hunter. A pain to play on DMD, HoH and HaH...

This will be amazing. (I can't even do mission 8 or 9 on DMD without dieing several times over *cough cough about 5-6*)

@@xDevilNeverCry Its a little difficult cause after a certain number of times of getting destroyed you can't help but rage quit. I mainly die trying to get my DT up reading the book but when I stop reading shadow gets stalemated and Griffon isn't the best for dodging.

I'm struggling so bad with Mission 5 as V. roughly 15 A ranks, I'm short a few hundred. I'm going to try and rebind to help with charge attacks. Does reading the book next to the enemies make a big difference to Style increase? Thanks to anyone who can help me out.

@@skippymurphy Mission 5 was the second worst mission for me after mission 15 too. It was annoying because you could no damage the whole mission but get a cheap shot by cavalier angelo. If you're not playing on Hell and Hell then I'd advice trying to no damage the whole mission and if you get hit by the boss, close the game and start it again and choose continue, you will start at the nearest checkpoint with your no damage and no continue multiplier in place. Some tips for fighting the boss in mission 5 is to come in with a full DT and don't summon nightmare unless pets has been stalemated or when your about to take damage and you can't dodge, like when he slows down time and tries to attack you because you are invincible during that animation. You'll also want to keep Shadow for dodging because he can still hit you sometimes when you dodge with griffon. Always read the book while nightmare is summoned because it slows down the rate of DT drain. You'll always want to make sure nightmare is available to summon so don't drain the DT until the boss is on his last 10% life. I feel your pain because that mission was a bitch to S rank.

Does reading the book while Nightmare is out do anything?

I newb like me enjoyed V the most (for SSS stylish comboes, and S-rank missions), he's the most easy character to play because Nero and especially Dante is so damn versatile and has so many tools to their disposal lol"

I kinda hope if they make DMC6 and decide to bring back V, i hope they give him the ability to equip different familiars, like how dante gets different weapons and nero gets different devil breakers

@Zack Ruise yes, but at the end of dmc5 vergil gives neto v's book and says something along the lines of "hold onto this until next time" which kinda gave me hope for them to keep V as a character while also having vergil around

No hate to Capcom or people who like him but I cannot stand V. His damage output is absolutely tiny and his gameplay is so mind-numbing, even in SOS and DMD. The playstyle itself is a very cool concept but needed way more fleshing out imo. Maybe having different kinds of familiars or changing their styles or more attack variations

Does the camera exploit work for bosses?

V is horrible to play as. He’s really simple to play as but difficult to master and do no damage runs especially in HaH. Almost broke my tv on mission 14 in HaH.

Reuben Tabansi horrible because his hard to master . Dante in dmc 4 was horrible for me and still is but with training I got the hang of all his styles .

@Tim Hanselbach I think for fun, V is not ideal on higher difficulties. He can however be good when using certain abilities and mashing them together. Like DNC says, reading the book while nightmare is active, you got a beast that packs a big punch in the arena and a tool to prolong it. Though he feels much more limited compared to the 2 characters. What I do is usually spam skewer with nightmare active(when possible), read book and try to dodge and spam Griffon. Otherwise a lot of auto attacks.

Parsa Shirali he is easy to play as don’t get me wrong. But on Hell and Hell and Dante Must Die, his missions were always the worst to S rank. He’s pretty easy to finish a mission with, but horrible to S rank with on Hell and Hell and some of his missions on Dante Must Die. Dante is also a hard to master character but he also feels fair to play as. With V, when your doing no damage runs, it always feels like a cheap hit whenever you get hit.

@@trapp998 Oh yeah if we're talking about S ranking then nevermind cause I hardly get those anyways. But indeed finishing a mission with him is easy and feels a little tedious at times. It's quite tough to keep track of him while attacking I think that's why it's a real pain when you get hit.

I just used auto mode with V, got easy s ranks on hell and hell.

The camera thing feels like a cheat, like you're taking something Capcom put in as a kindness and twisting it to manipulate the game they gave us.

How's it cheating if that's literally how it's meant to be programmed? It's called enemy management and camera angles help determine the enemy you want to focus on screen without getting cheapshotted from the back from an enemy that attacked off screen

If you don't see the difference between making sure enemies don't sucker punch the player and the player gaming the system into avoiding anybody attacking them but the demon they're currently wailing on, then I can't help you.

@@SirMandokarla The point of the combat is to LOCK ON to the target you feel you wanna take out first. This obviously requires you to adjust the camera angle to help fit that combat flow. How is it fair for the player to have enemies suddenly attack em out of nowhere if the camera wasn't even focused on them. They move into the camera spotlight to then attack the player, but they're not meant to attack off screen. The camera is meant to be constantly used to the players advantage to help with as I said earlier, enemy management

@@shadowxdark1 You're missing his point entirely. He's not saying the AI becoming passive off-screen is bad. He's saying purposely using this to cheese out fights by hiding in the corner is lame and being lame is the exact opposite of being stylish, which is what the game wants from you.

Have you been using Griffon’s double check at max level? That should give you plenty of DPS with all the attacks you can throw out with him before it’s over.

Whaaaat. V is broken. He's almost as broken as Vergil. Here's a tip. If your familiars are gone and you don't have enough dt to revive in a boss fight, jump and cane parry cancel. V's jump has minor I-frames and can reduce how precise a cane parry has to be.

V is actually the only one I can play and get consistent s rank with

My best strat for V is a use the cheat engine to switch out to Dante or Nero

I thought this was such a unique take on "caster" hack and slash gameplay. recently I've found that I've been dumping all of my devil trigger into Griffon because I hate trying to concentrate on his spellcasts

Tip for the people who wants to get S rank in DMD ans HaH. Use the the Auto mode! If you dont take any damage or continue, you still get a S rank using the auto. Just take careful, because when a enemy becone White, V will throw himself automatic to the enemy, and sometimes, he do this around 5 enemies

What about Cain parry's what about Royal fork being used as a freeze instead of just the kill? Dose no one actually try to use Vs shit our do you just write him off as a unfun character that has nothing to him. It's like I'm the only V main that trys to look for other stuff he can do

V has been my least favourite to play. The fighting method is too disconnect for me. My inputs just don't feel "connected". Not fun to play as him in my opinion.

your presentation format is really bizarre. putting 1 or 2 key words on screen at seemingly random times is really distracting

Thank you, I'm looking at V...and yuck. I am an old DMC player that bought the first on PS2 at launch. This guy too me is extremely awkward and just train wrecks the campaign.
