To those asking (I am not a French native speaker) Like in Italian... These are INTRANSITIVE verbs. They do not take a direct object. Why doesn't manger use être ? Well, manger CAN take direct objects. I ate myself I ate you I ate him Etc. So you use avoir Devenir Cannot take a direct object. J'ai te devenu. WRONG I can't literally become you. It is a verb of "being" or motion Similar verbs... Aller, arriver, partir, mourir, naître, entrer. I can't you enter, or him enter, only MYSELF I enter (by) myself. I hope this helps!

Lucas M Thank you. That explains why courir is conjugated with avoir, despite being a motion verb: I can't run you (in the 'physical motion' sense); I can only run myself. But what about partir? I can leave you.

Anuradha Nehe It would be a lot of work for her to replace the earlier videos. (If that is what you mean.) Also, it would be a huge waste, as they were very good too, & in some ways better. The earlier (single tense) videos were much more detailed. For instance, unlike some that are in the new format, they all showed full printed English translations (e.g. I run or I am running; I ran or I have run etc.). They also contained more detailed explanations, & more example sentences. I agree that, after a while, that degree of thoroughness, becomes less necessary, & a faster pace, & the showing of the 3 tenses side by side, becomes more useful. But, the original version remains ideal for beginners, & still very valuable for revision purposes. I sincerely hope that she does not remove those earlier verb videos from her Playlist. But, I do agree that any future videos are best made in the new, 3-tense format. Perhaps she could split the verb videos into Levels 1 & 2 (single tense videos in Level 1, & 3-tense videos in Level 2). And there is no reason why the same verb cannot appear in both Levels (but in the different formats).

Greetings Ms. Alexa, hope you're doing well, I have a small question (though I have just learning French only at this moment lol), I noticed that to form the Past Participle from a verb, you follow the following formula: The V in the past tense + V Avoir (to have) Then why did we use Verb Etre in this case (as in: Je suis devenu)?! Forgive my haste! but I really got disturbed! Thank you very much & I will try to watch & follow all your videos! Best Regards,

(The caterpillars will become butterflies; or, perhaps, moths.) Je deviens de mieux en mieux à ceci, grâce aux leçons d'Alexa. (I am becoming better & better at this, thanks to Alexa's lessons.) Vos enfants deviendront des adultes plus vite que vous ne le pensez. (Your kids will become adults faster than you think.) Ma sœur et moi sommes devenues paresseux dans notre vieillesse. Please, Alexa, don't read the English version, we can read it ourselves. Better read the French one twice. That's a big turn off, and another one is the loud music in the beginning.
