The military trains medics on trauma management procedures using various methods and modalities of simulation. Simulation modalities for medical training may include manikins, part-task trainers, augmented/virtual reality, computer-based simulations, cadavers, or live animals. Each modality has benefits and limits, such as suitability for training a certain task, cost, scalability, and deployability. To choose the right simulation, it is important to examine modality benefits and limits to train specific medical tasks and to understand the capability gaps for the given training context.
