21:08 - I'm relatively certain that it could've been cleared the "intended" way, for two reasons: First, there were two pipes leading into that magikoopa/wiggler room. (Granted, the magikoopas were coming out of the other one, but could've also been an exit pipe.) Second, more importantly, if the dev route was the only way, then why even bother having any kind of challenge in that room at the end. I think that was only there to make it seem legitimate, and so it was supposed to be possible to reach it the non-dev way. Edit: I just looked at the level viewer. It's funny - it seems that the dev path you took wasn't even meant to be a dev path - just an oversight by the creator. Because the regular route eventually leads right through there anyway. But there IS a true dev path slightly later - you can see another red pipe up high in the map view in the game, slightly later, and there's an invisible vine block that leads up to it. That path does give you a free wiggler kill, before dumping you out of the blue pipe in the magikoopa/wiggler room at the end - but now you don't need to kill that one, since you've already beaten one. Classic...

dev cheese should be an automatic boo no matter how cool the level might be that cave of gloom and doom level would have also been better off with checkpoints rather then a clear condition which didnt really add a whole lot

Honestly I agree. However I think it's reg cheese not dev cheese. I bet the door at the top is where Dave would've come out of if he hadn't botched that jump by the shooting spiny.

That would limit the creative ability of level creators to their skill levels though. While it does feel like cheating, I've heard a fair amount of people say they use more or less creative dev exits bc they're just terrible at the game themselves and it would take them hours to complete a level with basic techs.

@@goldenwolf5809 then use dev routes that take a long time to use, like an invisible block on a track that takes 3 minutes to be hittable. Dev routes are a necessity for levels that force you to die, but they aren't easy to find.

This was such a great episode. I love this series. So many weird levels. That cave doom and gloom level would've been so much better with checkpoints. It also could've been shorter. The second half felt like such a different and weirder level than the first half but it still had some good ideas.

Dev exits to me feel lazy. If you can't beat the level with your intended path, I personally think that means you should rethink some of your challenges rather then add a dev exit. In fact, the one time I did include a "dev exit" in a level, it was actually a trap.

Hi, DGR! You should make a video where you declare open season on uncleared levels and encourage chat to try to steal the first clear. I bet people would like betting on it...

I was also gonna mention that in the wiggler level there is an even faster dev cheese. But it appears someone already commented on it. I found it accidentally while trying to beat the level the normal way. Interestingly, I also got through the ball part on my first try and then died on my next 10 attempts. On one of them, I got the key, but I died a second later. My guess is you were actually a fraction of a second from returning to the spot where you would be when you jumped up using those trampolines (the elevated doorway)

18:30 actually, I confirmed the gauntlet does not end there. After going in the door, you take a downward elevator platform during which you have to avoid 2 horizontal jumping piranhas to the "door over there" (17:54). After that, there is another short area with a moving platform where you then have to transition to a seesaw piece and get into another door. From there, you will appear to the left of the area that you can see at 17:01. You have to do an upward race against trains of munchers. I died once after setting an on/off block, and I didn't try again. From what I can see, shortly after where I died, there would be a mini-gauntlet of fire chains, and then into a pipe (see 17:16).

I think the cheese in the doom and gloom level was intentional but also that the level could be cleared without it, granted after the door of the spinny you would need a pipe and an other door to reach the same place you could reach with the cheese.

There is no such thing as dev cheese. It's either a dev exit or it's cheese, it can't be both. The term cheese specifically implies it was not intended to be done that way, whereas a dev exit was specifically meant to be done that way.

I made an "I hate the player." level in Mario Maker 1 once. I'd consider porting it to Mario Maker 2, but Mario Maker 2 requires a subscription to work and is therefore trash.

Those difficult 0% success levels aren't that bad. But, it requires speed and surgical precision to pass the level. Good Job for to finish this levels! Just one question: How are the difficulty levels filtered for each level of a player? Is there a way to tell if one of them is Super Expert or Expert? I made someone. And three of them have still not been successful.

The legend foretold that DGR_Dave could defeat the undefeated and today it has become reality. 👏 🙌

i dont htink that was dev cheese, its way too detailed to be something only the dev was supposed to notice, and that seems to be the only way to beat the level, and having a full on boss fight that takes a while to do, if it was dev cheese, there would just a line of floor blocks that lead to the end(it could also be that the pipe where the magikoopas come out from is the intended way to beat the level, but then why leave the dev red pipe out in the open?)

A level should be automatically taken down if it has dev cheese. Why make a crazy level just to require cheese because the creator cant beat it the way they made it. One life is enough to check various portions during editing.
