I was gutted about the ending being such a letdown, and was also a bit miffed at the fact you could pay real money for more praxis kits. However I do enjoy mankind divided over human revolution for how much smoother it plays, and for the improved controller scheme compared to human revolution

I eagerly await Embracer and IDIOS to do more with the franchise after playing this game. It's a shame Square Enix didn't let them properly finish MKDX and got heavily involved with trying to monetize the shit out of it.

You missed a lot. Delara being Beth Duclare and its implications. Jensen doesn't "luckily" survive orchid because he's naturally immune. Orchid kills people by violently accelerating their aug rejection. Jensen has no rejection and has never needed neuropozyne in the series. This is commented on several times. It also makes perfect sense that Megan developed this since she based her original research on Jensen's DNA and its resistance to rejection. You barely scratched the surface of the subplot and themes.

looking purely at the game I fully agree. But looking at the bigger picture makes me sad. So Human Revolution was a success for if you look at previous video, or wikipedia sales section for Human Revolution it was called a success with 2.18M copies. But sadly gaming landscape started to change soon after that and SqrEnx was frequently reporting that games fails to meet the sales expectations. Notable example reboot of the Tomb Raider series from 2013, the best selling game in the franchise but at 3.4M sold copies SqrEnx claimed it was a failure, finally with the PS4/XO release and getting to 8M copies they were pleased. This put Mankind Divided (and any other game for that matter) in a tough spot, on top of this there were other changes in gaming like additional monetization. And looking at everything leading up to launch of this game was a disaster. From very unclear tiers for pre-orders (no numbers given to the public) yet the more pre-orders player should gain more the last tier was to play game a week early. This was not well received (no surprise there) and finally game release was pushed so this whole idea went down the drain. Breach mode which felt like something added to have option for additional monetization. And finally cherry on top one time use consumables sold for real money including praxis points. The game dropped in price very quickly 6 months from release I got it brand new for 10EUR PS4. I blame the publisher as they are the once making decisions. With that said and back to the first sentence I have 2 copies of this game (PS4 and PC) I played it and I really like it. Maybe not as much as Human Revolution but it is close. It is still a very good game which in my opinion was hurt by publishers decisions. I wish we got the the 3rd part of modern DeusEx which would close many still open plot points. I hope I will get time to revisit this game.

When i was recovering from a broken knee, I played through this 6 times, back to back with minimal sleep in between, all in an effort to get all the achievements. It was one of the tougher things ive ever done in a game because of the inconsistency with how some achievements are tracked by the game. Years later I've played it all the way through a few times since, while its not perfect and the story is lackluster and ends poorly, its still one of my top tier games just because of the environments, gameplay, and overall feel I get when playing as Adam Jensen.

Honestly? I never finished Mankind Divided. I sunk plenty of hours into it, but I found that after a while I just... Didn't care anymore. The story meandered around so much, and nothing ever happened, it got kind of exhausting, like the carrot on the stick was always just a little further away, with no payoff in the mean time.

I love how they went the "all the endings are canon" route again, for this one. if you pay attention, play through all the missions (side & main) and read reading all the side material in the game, and put all the clues together, its heavily implied that Jensen, sent out all three messages before sacrificing himself to destroy Panchaea at the end of Human Revolution meaning... SPOILER ALERT: Adam Jensen is dead, and you are actually a sleep agent clone of him with Implanted memories from a backup, and forged Augs...

Take this with a grain of salt, because I can't cite my sources off hand. My recollection was that Square ordered Mankind Divided to be split into two titles sometime during development (or during the shift from preproduction to actual development.) The feeling that it was more interested in setting up a sequel could be attributed more to the game literally stopping at a mid-point of the story, rather than resolving it. But, again, six or seven years out from that bit popping up in an interview, I can't cite back to the original source.

I really enjoyed DXMD even with all of its flaws and it's hard stop ending. As you said, Son, the hub city was huge in terms of detail, I played through the game numerous times finding extra story details everywhere in the city. For example, (Spoilers if needed) in DXHR you can save Malik from the ambush if your fast enough (if I remember from your video Son you did not do). Well, at one of the night sections in the city, you can go back home and make a bowl of Jensen's favorite cereal, in the box there is a toy and a note from Malik, canonizing her survival from the ambush in the world. These small details that some may never see or take several playthroughs to find are what makes this game great.

Mankind Divided honestly felt like Act I in a three act story. Act I being just how helpless and lost the world is. Reflected in gameplay and the story by the plot going everywhere and nowhere at the same time. Marchenko being the only "boss" in the entire game reinforces this point. Ideally for me, they should've made the side mission for Helle/Eliza part of the main story. Only introducing her again *_after_* the Apex Centre incident. From there, Eliza would be instrumental in helping Adam in getting closer to finding the Illuminati. I mean come on. What's a more apt way to refocus and help move along the plot in a Deus Ex game by re introducing a literal deus ex machina?

Because of this, I loved it! After the abysmal launch of Cyberpunk, this really filled a niche... However, even I was taken aback by the ending and how sudden it was I love the game, but yeah, the story was not as developed as it should have been

37:33 it's the [Only] one because it's special. It makes as much sense as you give credit towards the concept of a future security concept requiring a "plug-in". It has gravitas on it's own, and is cool, although not as cool as something like Portal by valve. Having this reappear again would reduce the value of the initial puzzle.

Agreed. And its not like it took a ton of resources to make that Breach segment of NSN and therefore wasted potential. Even if we gut out the Breach Mode multiplayer, the NSN's difference is some models and textures for walls and boxes. There's no new mechanics that are unique to that segment and the mechanics that are there you would've already been using hours before. Stacking boxes to create elevated platforms. Remote Hacking to disable cameras. Or in this case obscure their view.

DXMD is the kind of game that proves great gameplays and worlds are more important than story in a video game. Everyone loves GTA bcuz of how much you can piss around, and the same applies to DX. I personally don't care about main quests in games. I only care about the world, game play, and side quests. That's where the real fun and experimentation takes place. EDIT: also, weird, I'm watching this on August 23, the anniversary of the game's release in 2016. What a coincidence.

according to industry rumores, the game was suppose to be much longer but SE demanded they cut it up so the Jensen games could be a trilogy...and then killed the planed 3rd game after that...

I loved DE:HR and whilst I was playing MD I loved it too. But as soon as it ended my love ended. It just stopped what felt like half way through the story (forgetting obvious sequel setup, which I hope we get). Prague was amazing, but at the same time it really irked me that the whole state of the world happened to revolve around this one city. It felt small in scope compared to HR as we were mostly confined to this one place. And any globetrotting missions were one off sideshows. Gameplay I can’t fault and the experience of playing it was near perfect. I really enjoyed the story that was experienced at the time, definitely felt a bit more surface level, but I quite enjoyed the more obvious ‘out in the open’ nature of the illuminati stuff. But I was so burnt on the way it ended. I really want a sequel just to make it feel whole. Even HR, which had pretty weak ending, felt more satisfying than MD and had potential to launch a sequel from (without feeling obvious). Having Eliza read off everything as a news article just felt insulting (and again shrunk the world to only make it seem like Prague was the only place to ever have anything happen) Great video, like with soul reaver and kain (raziel too) I just want to have another chance to experience a new story with Adam again. Here’s hoping

From what I'd heard, the game was cut up to be sold as different games and we got 1/3rd of the game. Unsure how true that is, but it's Square Enix, so it probably is

This is my favorite game of all time but at the same time i hate it, i love the ambiance, the gameplay, the music, especially the levels, but i hate the fact that Square Enix cut the game short to try to get more money with a sequel and then just leaving us hanging and wanting to know more about how the journey of Jensen ends, they just decided to put it in a vault and forget about it, i pray that the new owner of the IP decides to make a new Deus Ex game following Adam Jensen story maybe giving it a proper ending. I want to know where it all goes in this universe :c

I'll admit that after Human Revolution, I gave up. I decided to leave new things to the young. Although I may pick up some new tools from time to time, I find great comfort and familiarity in the things that made me into the man I am. I'm Glad though that you could see, feel and appreciate what we experienced the first time around. Proud of you son.

I've played this game over 7 times. I love this game. I think the story is amazing. The story is like xmen just replace mutants with augmented. The music is perfect, I know this city like that back of my hand. I have to have a sequel. Not sure it will happen tho.

I always intend to try and play the game through without killing anyone but hackng security terminals and turning friendly fire on is too much fun. Carrying a turret around with you and attracting guards to it while you hide and watch as it tracks and kills everything in front of you is so crafty and cowardly but so much fun. 😂

Complaining about the middle part of a trilogy feeling like the middle part of a trilogy is beyond stupid. That's like saying, "DURR WHY DIDN'T LUKE KILL DARTH VADER IN EMPIRE STRIKES BACK???" Thankfully, Eidos is going to cap off the trilogy without Square ruining it.

@YourFavoriteSon - what are your PC specs? The Mankind Divided was known to had PC optimization issues, and back than mid range PCs had troubles. For me and I played both Human Revolution DC and Mankind Divided on laptop with gtx970m - Human Revolution was flawless (at 60fps), while Mankind Divided was not (mostly due to lack of proper vsync option, and running between 30 and 40fps).

I don't think the writing was bad. The emails and side quests were amazing. I think they cut the story into what it was because they were intending to do a sequel or longer dlc.

I'd rather a diff studio developed the game than Eidos. I loved MD and HR but not the biggest fan of how they handled combat among other things (melee especially) if they do make the next one hopefully they change the way it works.

Still a very dope game. Here's me praying they make another. The exploration/environments/tactics/strategies are just too cool and borderline sim. I love these games, and their realism goes a long way to make you feel like you're actually there. Something few games can do. It was short, but the game lets you enter so many shops, interact, hack emails, gain access to new areas with upgrades that it filled the spaces. The dlc's are largely great as well. The escape from prison one is a particular favorite. The ability to write every NPC as something approaching a living breathing character is something Bethesda has never been able to do, CDPR has gotten pretty good at, and studios like Remedy have practically mastered. Eidos-Montreal did a good job. Again, as with almost everyone, the game just didn't last long enough. It felt like it ended at the midpoint. You just can't kill the coolness of Deus-Ex MD. (Or any Deus Ex game) It just makes you wish there was more. That is not a bad thing. As far as the Aug system is concerned, after several play-throughs I never got the negative reinforcement of the special augs. That could be chalked up to being a glitch, or pacing. I never used them much anyways, but after you figure out the system, you can access basically all of them. The performance/"Optimization" left a bit to be desired as well, although this is not a problem with newer hardware. Most of the time people just don't comprehend how much is going on around them computational-wise. Realism=heavy computation.

Also, they did Malik dirty by not putting her in this game. Her and Jensen have great chemistry (possibly romantic), and she was a great sidekick in HR. And yeah, I think this was the Matrix Reloaded game. No satisfying end, and some disjointed plot lines. Overall I like the game, but they could have done better. I'm hoping that now that Square Enix no longer owns the franchise, maybe we'll get another one in the near future that will do the series justice.

@@YourFavoriteSon1 Pog The steam version of Knight doesn't have Denuvo, they just haven't updated the page. Also, if you play the PC versions, I recommend that you use the advanced launchers and the community patches. It might go a bit against the idea of the videos but the improvements are really nice. It might also be good if you show and compare the differences between the available steam releases and the "Return to Arkham" collection, which is console exclusive.
