These two have a strangely wholesome dynamic... let's examine: It's assumed that Adam got his job because of Megan's research, but if that was true, then his role was already fulfilled. They don't need him. They already have the data they needed from his blood. But when he was basically broken, this guy had him put back together and over this conversation, notice how careful he is with Adam's feelings... The power dynamic between them is not equal. David holds the actual authority in the room, but the Adam is the one in control, Adam is the one who's directing the conversation because David is afraid of offending/hurting Adam's feelings. This is even his main reason for avoiding telling Adam about what he sends to his email. Another point: Adam and Sarif stay in touch after this game, and David goes out of his way to help him even though they're not co-workers anymore. Adam and David are friends, or were at one point... and clearly, that friendship still means a lot to David. It's almost touching, isn't it?

I personally have a different take on their dynamic. When Adam was hurt and needed augmentation to survive... to say Sarif went overkill would be an understatement. Adam didn't need most of what they put in him but Sarif invoked Adam's contract and took an executive decision while he was unconscious to absolutely stuff him full of tech. You could argue he did it because he knew Adam would need that tech to stand a chance against their enemies. But I think the real (possibly subconscious) reason was that Sarif was simply curious. He was presented with a subject who was fully compatible with augmentation with no negative side effects, so he stuffed Adam with SARIF tech to see just how far he could push the limits of augmentation and transhumanism with the right body. Adam wasn't a friend to Sarif, he was a proof of concept. Sarif's dreams and ambitions of transhumanism made manifest.

@@seanfleming7206 While I agree that Sarif is no saint (well, compared to every other cyberpunk CEO, he actually is), I think the true reason why he went overboard with Adam is that he cannot imagine why someone would scorn the gift of augmentation. He made Adam a superhuman, healthier, stronger and smarter than he ever was, with no major side effects and with the company footing the bill. Being an ardent transhumanist, Sarif would have made that decision for himself in a split second, but it probably never crossed his mind that Adam might feel differently.

He was trying to prevent Adam from learning the truth about himself because of what he might do if he found out. Adam was genetically modified in a science lab as a child to be 100% compatible with augmentations, and Sarif used a loophole in his security contract to modify Adam with far more augments than was necessary. That's why he hired a freshly fired SWAT member with noted problems with authority and the chain of command.

@@MaxUltimata And Sarif then used that DNA research as the basis of a lot of his newer augmentations. The same augmentations that caused the issue at the end of the game. Adam even confronts Sarif about it if you talk to him twice (and you can shoot Sarif in the face if you think Adam should feel insulted about this man's rampant attempts at manipulating and using others, particularly Adam himself). This is one of the most important scenes in the game, because Adam is literally asking and trying to find out about how he got turned into a tool of war and societal change against his will. Even his relationship with Megan was fake, just one more way to keep Adam under surveillance. There's too much at stake in not letting Adam know.
