Just getting ready to go out today for the first time with my new 11” D2 coil. I like the 9” it’s been all I expected working in colonial iron. I decided on adding the 11” for open areas to get more coverage. Testing both coils on my buried 8” dime they both will hit it but it is not a grab yer attention signal with clear steady ID at all in my soil. Im not addressing my settings here but I went through the programs and made some tweaks to enhance the response. Still gaining knowledge on how to make this D2 work for me. The depth results I see people get in milder soil are amazing. Not so much in my area.

The reason you get a bit of a hit on the tip is because DD coils are sensitive on the outer sides as well as the centre line. Your nails are both hitting the sides of the coil during the entire swing......causing the disc to knock out the dime. When you use the tip of the coil only.......those nails are no longer lining up as perfectly to block out the dime. Basically the width at the tip isn't the same as the width on the center. This is why smaller coils perform better in high trash............there's less chance of comingled targets lining up perfectly with the sensitive edges of the coil causing the software to have to make a hard choice. That's why in high iron or trash you should always use multiple coils on a site if you have them.......or at the very least hit the same site from multiple directions. That's a tough test either way and the fact it hits the dime with any coil at all is impressive.

I've been running both coils since Feb. Like any other 9 vs 11 inch coil. Just depends how you set it up. 11" gets little deeper and 9" separates well. At the end of the day, both coils offer great separation and both are deep seekers.

I like them both. Need to use 11” coil more though.

Ive been a Minelab guy for many years but now I think Im going to try the Deus 2. Based on this video would you say that I should get the 11" coil? Thanks (Mountain Mike on the forums)

I have the 11inch and I want to buy the 9”. Here we have large areas with strong mineralization where the 11”” performs very well. . Do you know how the 9” performs on hot soils? Thanks

It should perform a little better since the smaller coil doesn't have to sample as much soil at one time. That being said the performance between the 9 and 11 on the D2 doesn't really seem worth the cost of the extra coil in my opinion. Just change the direction you hunt or you can lower your sensitivity to get a tighter detection pattern or tilt your coil a bit to make it perform like a smaller coil. If they come out with a 5-7 inch coil, that will be a game changer. 9-11 just isn't a significant enough size change to unmask significantly more in my opinion.
