The only way mine would get to 60 mph is of i drove it off the side of the empire state building. Its really happy around 45 - 47 mph. Mine is bone stock , the only thing different from when it was built is i had to replace the engine and went with a turbo charged one. It really starts so much easier but the whistling of the turbo sounds cool it gets on your nerves after a while.

I always appreciate the deuce videos. I'm glad I have the 395's compared to the stock NDT tires. Better on wet and snowy roads as well as off-road, but the speed is much better. I usually like to cruise around 55 mph, which has the engine rpms around 2100-2200. I've topped out at 70 mph once, but the engine was screaming. Doing that for short periods of time doesn't hurt it. Doing it for long periods of time will eventually throw a bearing or a rod. It can also cause overheating issues as far as exhaust temps go. I drove from MI to NE, 1200 miles that way at full bore, 56 mph at 2600 rpm, this was my old deuce with the 9-20 NDT tires. She overheated and less than a week later the head gasket blew and it melted a piston. For whatever size tires one runs on their deuce, the multi-fuel engines like to stay around that 1900-2200 rpm mark.

I never got above 45 Miles an hour. Even though I tried that's all it would do except on down hill with a good wind it would go 55 the motor would cut out at 45 but you can hold the clutch in and get a little extra speed. It was terrible on hills as it would slow down to 35 miles and hour . On the interstate it's offensive driving only.

Deuces are designed to go slow so everyone can get a better look at all that glory! Thanks for bringing back the Deuce vids! Another thing to consider with these trucks is the braking system. Being able to stop is a good thing, and the higher the speed, the harder it is to stop. I'll keep mine under 50 and enjoy the ride.

The Technical Manual answer is that an M35A2 maximum speed is 56 MPH, and the cruise speed is 45MPH. In stock configuration as issued, a Deuce cannot achieve 56MPH on flat ground. "Stock Configuration" is the key word. If you put an extra high 5th gear in the Spicer 3053 Transmission, you can do it. Or if you do a "Fuel Density Compensator" (FDC) bypass then you might be able, depending on your fuel system's condition. And you should do an FDC bypass, it was an Army Mandated service item starting around 1997. FDCs wear out, are not serviceable items, and can leak, mix fuel and engine oil, which will destroy the bearing surfaces in your engine over time. If you bypass the FDC don't think that because you can drive 56 MPH that you can safely do so. A pump old enough to need the bypass is not 100%, will have other sealing and lubrication issues, and can be damaged from that. It is also possible to buy a "G" model injection pump, which lacks an FDC entirely. That has happened to me. Post FDC-bypass the governor fork or rod in the injection pump broke, and I purchased a new G model pump. I can now do 55MPH on a slight incline, without putting the pedal to the floor...but I mostly keep it around 50 MPH if on a highway, and 45 MPH otherwise.

Yeah, the engines in the deuce only put about 130-136 hp and that is with the turbo. When rubber meets the road, due to the transmission and axle gear ratios, the deuce has some incredible pulling power, at least within the first 3 gears in high range and all 5 gears in low range.

Being that you're going for maximum acceleration, I'm surprised to see and curious why you didn't use low range and use the good ol fashioned recommended shifting sequence. Gears 1-5 in low, grab high, back to 4 then back up to 5. Probably would have shaved a few seconds.

Well i have the exact same truck. I bypassed the fuel density regulator. It would peg the speedo and I could haul 5 tons of gravel and maintain 50 up hills. Unfortunately I’ve now done three sets of head gaskets and had the heads machined and worked on the block. To much fuel and heat starting cracking the pistons in the combustion pockets. I now keep it under 50. The old Hercules multi fuel just was never meant to be a Cummins. 😹. I use the truck on the farm hauling manure and hay. It’s better to just put on ear muffs and enjoy the time it takes to get from a to b. 😹
