DETROIT DIESEL: “Mad Max” Rat Rod V12 Diesel 1948 COE Dump Truck With Hidden Motorcycle | EP24
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Why? Because every mid-engine rat rod 1948 Ford COE dump truck needs a tiny Honda Trail 90 rat bike in its former engine compartment, shrouded by a gym locker. With makeshift construction and a distinct aura of oil, the 4,000-pound Series 71 Detroit Diesel 12V71 two-stroke engine with twin 671 blowers powers its manually-shifted Turbo 400 transmission with a double roller chain and produces over 1,000 foot-pounds of torque and 425 horsepower. Nicole gives it a fresh oil change, then climbs under the gull-wing doors and into the wheelbarrow-bucket seats of Scotty Ray's "Mad Max" apocalypse-surviving, Rat Fink-inspired truck, cruising around the city streets and desert of Las Vegas.
MORE ABOUT SCOTTY RAY:
A native to Las Vegas, Scotty Ray is a diesel mechanic at Micon Construction, owned by his brother, Mike Ray. Scotty Ray is active in the local rat rod community and Model A club, and frequents car shows with his rat truck known as the "Detroit Destroyer."

Reengineered from repurposed materials with a level of craftsmanship. Just from this video his knowledge and talent naturally surfaced and any true tinkerer will admire. Thank you sir, in my life I met some of the greatest. They had every combination of head cam displacement even referenced rod and piston diameter at the fly and after a case of beer. My pops owned a wrecker and as a kid I fell in love with the energy. Approaching 74 still operates his Pete 40 piggyback house grass pool and his coveted 53 Willys he’s owned my entire 45 years. Back in the 80’s there was no support do he cropped a chief frame 390 4spd with the Dana 44’s. Heck it’s still his daily with a 2000 Bravada 4.3 and a Getrag 5 spd we swapped two decades back in her. 🫡
Half engineer, half mechanic, half sculptor. He's a Mad Scientist-and-a-half! Love you, brother...freaking awesome awesome telling of the story of your Rat Rod -- and you.

I still got all those old Detroit diesel specialty tools for those motors ! When I first got in the heavy truck industry , those motors were still in production & I worked at a GMC heavy truck dealership when there still was such a thing !!! Some Brockway CONVENTIONAL CAB TRUCKS were built with those 12V-71's from the factory ! that was a lot of motor back then , they were fairly simple , but a hell of a lot of moving parts in the accessory drives and valve train ( AND THEY LACKED INTAKE VALVES ALL TOGETHER / USING THE BLOWERS FOR THAT PROCESS ) WHAT A BLAST FROM THE PAST !!!!!

Very impressive. The ultimate rat rod

Thanks Aaron..this one is definitely on the "unusuals" list!!! Love it!!
Nicole and crew, you guys continue to crush it, one episode after another! Epic ride. So many interesting details. Laughed my arse off when Scott was standing through the sun roof. This episode flew by. Speaking of time, I imagine you're putting a LOT of hours into these episodes (100+ hrs). Thank you for your ongoing contribution to this platform. You are appreciated. I would love to get involved... Actually reached out via LinkedIn, earlier today.

This is true art. A takes a minute to get it but I doubt for a second he missed an inch of this beast. If it looks like an accident I seriously doubt it. Every peace was intentional

Swedish MOT would love this... 😬😆 a two-stroke diesel and tons of stuff that could hurt you (or others). Glad to see that it's possible to runs these kind of Mad Max contraptions at least somewhere in the world. 👍

@@ScottyRay-12V71 Loving it! It's like a mirror of all the nutty projects me and my dad used to pull off. Using the oddest things in a very creative way. Makes me smile 🙂
