That's a big and sweet looking 2-stroke Detroit generator and it sounds like a usual Screamin' Jimmy which is to be expected with these old 2-strokers.

I know this is an older video, but what are these big generators used for? Are they running a remote facility or something or are they just used for emergency backup?

In a way they’re like modular engines, you can kinda just keep going as long as the factory could machine it

i got a question if ya don’t mind, when loadbanking what causes the voltage to drop over time? it’s a brush type 200A generac and man unless your a dealer they won’t talk to ya, ( i’m in the middle of 2 so i couldn’t be a parts dealer) 🤦‍♂️ but they can’t fix it so they called me they changed everything so far they told me i’m stumped🤷‍♂️

Could be heat buildup in windings, or carbonization on brushes. Or heat buildup in some other current carrying component. All those things would be due to not being able to get enough heat out.

    @@theenglishmechanic. I'm a bit late, but I have a question. Does 60hz mean 60 power/ignition strokes per second?

  • @theenglishmechanic.

@@edwardtye4119 Hz refers to the frequency the the electrical power is generated. In North America we use 60hz and in Europe 50hz. The frequency is only for electrical output. The only connection the engine has to this is the speed it run at, 50hz@1500rpm and 60h z@1800rpm.
