It honestly seems like Markus being violent seems out-of-character for him. He seems distressed and troubled by his decisions, similarly to how Connor can exhibit signs of deviancy even as a machine. My theory on this is that all three protagonists were meant to be moral and heroic, but their internal conflict can lead to them making immoral choices. These immoral choices can be driven based on fear, for the most part, I think.
