stupid cold is 10 degrees colder than goddamn cold. I've only had Cummins and a 4-stroke GM 8.2. One day a two stroke detroit would be nice. Sounds lovely.

@@Mega7492 Yup I really like older, all-mechanical diesels. Some favorites being Cummins 5.9 and 8.3 and the Mercedes 4 and 5 cylinder diesels up until about 84/85. And there are a bunch of tractor and heavy equipment engines that I think are great and they would all be from the 1950s through early 80s. Heck I love the early diesel ship engines and that kind of stuff of course and sadly have not yet been to a museum for that kind of thing but will now add it to the to-do list.
Always amazed by the Batterie which turns this bad boy till it can by itself
Wonderfully tasty smoke that smells good and is also addictive. It's a pity that so little came out, should have been much, much and much more!!

Remember this , it is not how long you crank, it is how fast you crank. Diesels are compression ignition engines. Warm up the engine oil and use the right grade of oil. Make sure your batteries are warm and fully charged. Use a battery blanket to warm up batteries. I have started this type of engine as low as -40 C same as -40 F . You can do a lot of damage if the engine does start and the engine oil is to thick to be pumped to the bearings. An engine coolant block heater DOESN'T warm up the oil in the pan, the engine can start but you get no lube to the engine bearings

@CaelanR It is though, -40f and -40c are the same temp, it's the over lap point of the two scales, just like how horsepower and torque cross at 5252 rpm meaning the hp and tq will be equal because they are 2 forms of measuring the same thing just like Fahrenheit and Celsius so there is a cross point where they are equal.

A cold diesel engine needs good rpm from the starter motor for a good start up next to good injectors and glow plugs

Lol. Old detroits didn't have glow plugs. Only thing they had options for was a block heater, intake heater and there was a ether capsule dispenser deal at one time you could option for. I will agree with ya on the rpm thing on starting them. A Detriot that's tuned up and adjusted correctly only needs some good batteries to get her fired up. A two stroke Detroit with a air starter is beautiful music.

So much easier if you just use a tiny ether. Versus running batteries down and cranking so much with diesel washing down the cylinder walls
@tomscrossthreadgarage4183

Rather have diesel wash down my cylinders than ether. Diesel in itself is a lubricant. Not only is starting fluid not a lubricant, but it removes any that are present. One squirt of ether would have ruined this video. Lol.
