Hi Lei, these worms you showed me look like Planaria species. I have them in some tubs with Shrimp, Guppy and Turtles. The fish I have don't eat them, they don't live long in cichlid tanks. I have noticed that they live well in a tropical temperature, with high or low temperatures they become inactive or lethargic. They can also live in filter materials and in aquariums where there is humidity. Yes, they reproduce quickly if they have excess food available, they do not eat vegetables or plants. If cut they give rise to two specimens. For shrimps they could be a problem when they moult, or even for slow fish that remaining on the bottom can carry these worms in the brachias, I saw with my own eyes a female Guppy attacked by these worms in the brachias causing her death. If you use the same net or move objects and furnishings from one aquarium to another, it is easy for you to infect the tank without knowing it. I have developed a natural product based on the leaves of a plant that I do not remember the name, you can find it on the market is called NoPlanaria Genchem company that works well, I also tried to make snail-type traps but it takes a long time and you can't eliminate the problem altogether. Have a nice weekend.

So happy to see you posting regularly again, Lei! I’ve never had an issue with detritus worms in my goldfish (there is no substrate for excess food or waste to hide in and they’d definitely eat any worm they saw) tank but battling them in my Neolamprologus multifaciatus tank currently. I do a lot of water changes but I also overfeed because I have a lot of fry right now. I just counted 26 fry (that I could see!). The detritus worms are enjoying themselves. One tip I can offer is doing a big water change when they are on the glass and when the water level is low, wipe them off with a paper towel and throw it away. Thanks Lei!

Good to know and have a clear concise answer. I was looking into this recently as in my fishkeeping years I have never had them so I wanted to correctly identify them but I do have them in some heavily planted tanks.

Thank you *Becca* . Detritus worm may be easily observed in substrates or plants.
