Detective Uses His Arrogance To Interrogate A Suspect

#truecrime #Interrogation
This Video Is For Educational Purposes. It is meant to show the psychology behind how police interact with suspects to try and get their confession.
In this JCS Inspired true crime documentary, we take a look at the interrogation John Makris. After John's wife is found deceased, a member of the Texas Ranger UCIT will stop at nothing to prove that John is the one who did it.

    A few things about this video... 1. Even though they weren't officially married, we use the word wife because the Ranger calls her his wife throughout the interrogation and we didn't want to confuse anyone. 2. Subtitles are auto generated. They are pretty good but not perfect. 3. Here is the link to the interrogation of the hired hitman Jesus Trevino. kzread.info/dash/bejne/eJiMs82cob3Zc7g.html

    Not really, he literally could have gotten the death penalty, mentioning that this possible isn’t coercion, plus he didn’t say he’d get death for talking to a lawyer, but for killing his wife, if there was doubt in his guilt maybe it’d be problematic, but that’s the point of laying the evidence out first, if it was a tactic to solve the case when you don’t know if they did it maybe, but this ain’t that

    not to mention law enforcement can legally lie during any part about their investigation of a subject. As long as they read the Miranda Rights and a lawyer has not been firmly requested to end the interrogation, they can and will say whatever they want to keep that ability to control information. Once a lawyer has been requested they cannot talk to you without them present (yes, some blatantly violate this rule). After that lawyer is present, they also cannot bullshit you or withhold information as they are then bound to full disclosure. They have to provide everything they have.

    Question for any legal experts: Could the Ranger’s statements where he’s trying to dissuade the suspect from consulting with a lawyer be seen as coercion (or, if that’s not the right word, a type of threat)? I’m just a layman but what the Ranger says basically boils down to “If you talk to a lawyer, the State will execute you.”

  • @CyRxJustin

    @CyRxJustin

    Жыл бұрын

    CLR Bruce Rivers got a confession thrown out because the cops offered the suspect KFC if he stayed and talked and that qualified as coercion. I'm pretty sure saying "you have a right to ask for an attorney but if you do i will not work with you and you will get the death penalty" would also nullify the interview, but IANAL. I do know that if you ask for a lawyer, that's the end of questioning. If they continue questioning after that, it's inadmissible. However, if you only say "should I have a lawyer?" then that doesn't necessarily qualify, and if you keep talking unprompted after you ask for a lawyer, that's on you.

    He's the Patrick Bateman of the rangers. But seriously, it takes some serious skill to act as "casually" obnoxious and arrogant and talk as if he were totally detached from the situation, while deep down he's desperate to get a confession. The amount of bluffs he delivers with a straight face, even though in reality he's terrified that the guy doesn't call any of them. Amazing acting.

    I'm only 15 minutes so I have to keep watching to see the extent of his bragging to determine if all of this was just a narcissistic ego trip OR.. It is an intentional part of his interrogation methods and tactics which he MUST be so good at, that it ultimately led him to have a specialized Texas Ranger title, one of only 8 in the entire state, with the governor assigning him to help with the case. Would they really choose a guy like this for such a prestigious title with great responsibilities? So full of himself, going on and on about how great and special he is when he should be interrogating? Very unlikable, not good for building rappor at ALL. Why choose him and not any other tenacious, strong, humble and self controlled Texas Ranger? He must be incredible at his job. And he KNOWS the suspect is guilty in this case. I really think he is purposely telling the suspect over and over how good he is, so the suspect becomes defeated. In a JCS video, one detective was rambling and repeating himself. JCS said that this was on purpose, to wear the suspect down but mostly not give him an opportunity to think and come up with a story to explain the evidence presented. This interrogator is doing the same, with the evidence he has and ramming it home that he is the God of interrogations. RTC paused and said he was doing this to "manipulative the suspect" into thinking he will not get away with murder with this dude. While watching, I instantly thought "Fear up Technique" which JCS discusses. This interrogator started off telling the suspect he didn't NEED to ask him any questions. Basically telling the suspect that he already has all the answers. Listing his credentials, high status, 100% confession rate, governor calling HIM to get it solved and bragging about how amazingly he does his job... I think that was all done to instill fear and defeat in the suspect, that he might as well confess because they sent in the "best of the best" with CONFIDENCE through the roof. I have to finish watching, but there is a reason this Texas Ranger has this special title and position.
