My dad worked for Caltrans took care of Highway 49 in the area. First time I went panning on the yuba was in 1965. Back then there used to be hundreds of people panning I guess used to be the thing to do .

I’m not sure how miners don’t get motivated by watching your videos! With the smoke up here in El Dorado county, I packed up and took a little trip down to the American River just to get some color. Thank you very much for making these videos and being a teacher of the trade. Would love to meet up and pan with the both of you and move some boulders . Thanks again

Very cool! I own property in the Trinity Range area and if you stay south east of it, your in a wind and snow shadow. FANTASTIC camping and exploring out that way!

I found a gold pan underwater in the Yuba River about 6 years ago. Every year I tried to find gold but I didn't have much of a clue as to what I was doing at first. The last 2 years I've really been trying to get better. You have really helped me. I appreciate the way you describe why you choose a location and your process. My last 2 trips were the best I've had, using techniques I've learned from youtube. Needless to say, my equipment is far beyond a simple gold pan now and I find myself drawn to the treasure hunt more than ever. Hope to run into on the Yuba one day. Happy hunting!

Some of my best sniping has been on the Yuba. Got down to some real low spots this summer with the water level.

I have been using one for over 30 years, its a bit beat up but still works great. One of these days I will do a video on it. They are great for pulling boulders.

Easiest method is to put it in a small plastic bottle with some vinegar and shake it for a bit, when you get it clean, rinse it off with clean water.
