Put that in your complaint , it went from a possible knife then to an object when the Sargent was explaining and NO contact cards on any of the officers involved, I would have followed them and recorded them just to see who else they did stop searches on.

After satisfying their suspicions about your tripod. what probable cause did they have to continue to search you? I wondered why there were police every twenty feet, it seems that they are just trying to justify their presence there.

Stop and search powers are sometimes used, or perceived to be used, as a control measure or show of power by the police, rather than being used for the legitimate purpose of finding prohibited items and reducing crime. Use of stop and search in such a way is unlawful.

The police should have confined the search to that pocket alone, if they suspected the offensive weapon was in that pocket a full body search should not be warranted. Home office guidelines state " If they are based on information that the person has hidden a stolen item in their pocket, the search should be limited to the pocket, unless there are additional grounds or the person has had an opportunity to move the item."
