Detailed 991.2 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Review: Do All Sports Car Now Under $100k

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this week's detailed car review, we get to share one of the best-used car bargains out there, the do-all sports car that just checks every single enthusiast box in my eyes, the 2017 Porsche Carerra 4S in the 7-speed manual. Now we know Porsche took some heat when they got rid of the legendary 3.8 naturally aspired flat-six so common in the Porsche 911 for years. In fact, I was not in the camp at the time that turbo-charging and dropping the car down to 3.0 liters was the way to go. But, after experiencing the 991.2 Porsche 911 Carerra 4S, I have changed my mind.
The reality is guys, as a driver, the torque curve of the new 3.0-liter turbo-engine essentially allows you the driver to enjoy a max 370 + foot-pounds of torque from 1,700 RPMs all the way to the mid 5,000 RPM range. Thus, you have tremendously more useable and virtually instant power everywhere for all practical daily driving and track-oriented uses.
Yes, the 2017 Porsche 911 4S does not quite sound as good as the older 3.8 N/A engine, but I found myself really enjoying the sports exhaust and the turbo sounds. Frankly, through a tune, blow-off valve, air filter, and opening the exhaust up just a tad more this car will absolutely delight your car enthusiast senses. Grant you, in stock form with the sports exhaust, it ain't half bad.
Another highlight of the 2017 991.2 Porsche 911 4S is the rear steering. It comes with the 2017 911 4S sport package, and I also loved the GT steering wheel. That steering wheel is lacking most buttons, except for the drive mode selector. I just loved that this car was specced as a real driver car, with the sport PASM, sport exhaust, sport package, and the incredible 7-speed manual with rev match!
In this 2017 911 Carrera 4S review, I speak about my honest options for both the PDK automatic transmission and the equipped 7-speed manual. My thoughts are clear, in that I would recommend the manual for anything other than a GT car, unless you plan to daily drive the car. If you do plan to track your 911 or Cayman, spec the PDK and the carbon sport seats. Otherwise, stick with the manual and the incredible 18-way adjustable sports seats that this car was equipped with.
Now let's take a moment to discuss the value proposition of this exact car and other similar equipped 2017 Porsche 911 4S models. The fact is, in 2017, this car was around $136,000 before tax, tiling and dealer fees. So let's call it a $150k car out the door. The reality that you could have bought this exact 2017 Porsche 911 4S today for the mid to high 90k range with only 17,400 miles seems like a real bargain to me. So much so that I was giving it serious thought myself.
Beyond all that I have already said, we really love the look of the 991.2 Porsche. They really designed a beautiful Carrera that caters to the historical past while looking modern and sporty. Really, inside and out, this Carrera just hits in my eyes. Definetly got all the right looks when I was driving here too, especially with the roof open and windows down. It definitely makes you feel like "I've Made It."
I really hope you all enjoy our 2017 Porche 911 4S review. We spent many hours shooting and editing the content and we hope you find it entertaining and educational. If you do, we sure appreciate you sharing it with a friend or family member. If you disagree with anything I said, or want to add an opinion or have a question, please drop a comment below.
See you on the road!

Great review. I have a 991.1 C4S all black just like that one, and could have bought the 911.2, but since I daily drove a Panamera Turbo for some years, I needed to hear the motor. That car was amazing and could dust almost everything on the road, but was whisper quiet, so when I went shopping for a 991, I had to get the NA motor. I do wish I could get a tune like with the turbo motor, but the sound of that NA motor!!! its beautiful and I dont regret my choice. It's flat 6 music.

One of these days we will have OUR GT Porsche. And I will know, I earned it. And she will be loved. Not that this is a “GT” Porsche for the record just saying.

Not a lot of deals on 991.2 Manuals, PDKs on the other hand are negotiable. Dealers know someone will pay the manual tax and that they’re rare, PDKs are a better bang for your buck and are usually $5-10k cheaper.

I have a 2019 example and today it still puts a smile on my face. I think that it’s the best model to get. With a simple tune to remap it you can get GTS engine performance or more - without paying the insane cost of the GTS or Turbo trims. It also rides better and is more comfy for a daily. It also has wheels with normal lug nuts instead of the stupid “race wheels” with the single wheel nut - that makes it necessary to find a Porsche dealer just to change a tire. My spec is similar to his except mine is white and a blue/gray interior. As a note, I recommend the rear wheel steering if you get one. The only big difference is mine does not have a manual tranny.

Yeah this is the do all sports car. Considered buying this one for myself. All she needed was a tune to unlock Turbo S power and open that exhaust up a bit more.

@@Driven-Productions Yeah, sheet say's RS Spyder wheels but whats on the car are Carrera S wheels. RS Spyders are similar to BBS wheels. I have them on mine. But you've sold it anyway. Nice spec, good review
