Destro is his own man with his own agenda. Working with Cobra Commander suits his needs. Both men are already on a collision course somewhere down the road. Was a rock solid issue.

I thought it was a strong start. I liked it a lot more than the first issue of Scarlet.

Destro using untested arms to start a coups makes no sense at all, he is an arms dealer, he plays all sides until he sees a clear winner. I thought the art wasn't great, better than Scarlett but worse than Cobra Commander. Destro also sounded like a robot.

@@WeirdScienceComics he came out of this issue looking like an unprepared goon, not somebody Cobra Commander was supposed to ally himself with to take over the world.

It was slightly better than Scarlett but it still felt like aimless filler. Duke and CC started off balls to the wall and never let up while clearly building towards something bigger. Destro and Scarlett seem like they were thrown together on the fly with no other purpose than to say "'Member Tomax and Xamot? 'Member Storm Shadow? 'Member the Crimson Guard? Now give us more money, please." Destro is a shadowy arms dealer who works behind the scenes, he doesn't lead coups and displace despots or make himself the face of lavish arms exhibitions. Duke did a great job establishing that characterization just for this book to come along and say "nah, Destro is Tony Stark now". And WTF did they do to his eyes? Destro has black eyes and red pupils and they're menacing AF. Why suddenly make them blue? I give it a 5/10.

I didn’t like cobra commander until the third issue myself - i know nothing about Destro at all going into this (including his eye color) so I am going in cold with a lot of stuff

@@WeirdScienceComics going in cold is great because you get to start with a clean slate and every iteration of these characters has varied over the decades so no characterization is completely sacrosanct. My complaint is with Destro's characterization in this book compared to what was already established in Duke and CC. Going from an unknown, reclusive shadow boss in Duke and CC(Ripper didn't even know his name in CC) to an apparently well known pseudo cartel leader openly inserting himself in global politics in this book felt jarring and detached. I'm hoping Scarlett and Destro end up hooking me but at this point I'm just wishing they had skipped the last minute cash grabs and jumped straight into the GI Joe ongoing.
