Really enjoyed this and thank you for taking us along. I’ve visited the Porsche museum and was hugely impressed. Also recently did a Nurburgring trip in my GR Yaris. Considering it’s a 1.6 3 pot I was cruising at 100mph and I was regularly tickling it up to 120/130mph and up to the 143mph limiter on the autobahns.

Thanks GRfourfun! Glad someone as well travelled as you enjoyed it. I am sure the GR is a lot of fun on a trip like that, so many cars needs to stretch their legs in Europe to reach their full potential. Autobahn driving makes you appreciate the benefits of ceramics, Porsche steel brakes are good but there were a couple of times I thought 'is that it?!'

@@volkswizard I really did enjoy it and I loved that little hotel you stayed in with the view. I know what you mean with the brakes and I’ve experienced it in the past as I was stationed in Germany for 12 years and braking for lorries as you do was quite scary in an early Impreza turbo with 2 pot front brakes lol Luckily the GR has brakes bigger than the new Supra and I’ve fitted 660 fluid with braided lines, they are immense on and off the track.
The BLACK wheels spoil the look of the car!

I agree so in the spring I had them done in Porsche Satin Platinum which was a 981 GTS option but not for UK. I realise the car didn’t actually appear in the video much but I’ll drop some images into part 2 😁
Really enjoy your travelogue videos each summer. Lots of ideas for visits and great suggestions.

A great vlog Andrew. The museum does look special. Loved the lakeside hotel, what a cracking little place, it even has a hairpin approach. I look forward to watching part 2.

Great looking road trip. You may want to look at using a notch filter because some of your (more the outside?) footage has a high pitched background noise e.g a piece starting at 14:35

Love a road trip video Andrew 😉👍 I especially enjoy factory/museum tours, visited Munich back in 2015 and spent a day visiting BMW Welt, museum and factory tour - one of my favourite ever days! (the fact that the 1972 Olympic Park was right next door was a bonus 😉)🇩🇪

Glad you enjoyed it David! Munich is one of the best cities in the world. That's why the ex-BMW employees who now work for Audi in Ingolstadt still live there even with a big commute.

Brilliant, I worked in Stuttgart in the early noughties and went past the Porsche factory daily but don’t think the museum was there then. Definitely one to do! The Audi factory tour is also really interesting, and like you say when you go you’ll want one after, I ended up ordering a new A3 not long after doing the tour! Thanks for sharing your trip Andrew, and nicely edited too

Hi Andrew and Kate a fabulous video and I enjoyed following your progress on instagram what a journey and I would love to visit that museum I think Victoria and the boys would lose me for hours lol 😂 the scenery looks lovely and reminds me of many road trips over there with my mom and dad and brothers looking forward to the next instalment! Thanks Ivan! The museum isn't too dear and is well presented as you'd expect. It's also a lot less claustrophobic than your typical museum. Don't drive through Stuttgart to get there though as it's a very congested place, dropping in from the North West was so easy. Audi Forum Neckarsulm worth a visit too.
I was at the museum a few weeks back. I concur the restaurant/cafe you both used is really very good and puts a lot of U.K. museum restaurants to shame. The museum itself is excellent and a must visit. To think the first car he built was an EV! Loved the 919 upstairs in all its race splattered coating
@volkswizard

I didn’t see the 919 but when I went in 2013 they just won Le Mans and the race cars were sat outside museum, untouched, an epic sight 😍

Thanks for taking us along Kate and Andrew. I have made many trips to Germany in my career and stayed in Speyer and Hochenheim(sp) for work. Visited the old Porsche museum in the early 2000’s in Stuttgart and was amazed as well. Yes, I wanted to buy one as well.

Thanks for watching Richie! I never got to see the previous museum, I bet it smelled more of old cars and oil, an odour oddly missing from new museum, was it good? They still have both an old evocative museum at Wolfsburg which is run as a charity as well as the multibrand Zeithaus which is more like the Porsche museum but includes other significant cars which is a surprising but cool move from VW

@@volkswizard Andrew, it was just fabulous to visit the Porsche museum. It did have some genuine smells of the older Porsche’s. I need to find a pic of me standing next to a 1964 911 at the museum and post. Soon I need to bring my wife and daughters to Deutschland for a holiday and let them enjoy the beautiful scenery. Watching video of you Kate on your trip to Venice. Love it! Thanks again for the journey!
I've just completed a similar trip (including the porsche museum) in my 981 Cayman GTS. Great car to do it in. Proper laughed at the dig towards PetrolPed 😂😂.

Sounds like a great car to do the trip in! Ped's OK but he was protesting too much in that video where he tried to justify a 2.5T over 4.0 GTS, so much he got a few things wrong. Don't get me wrong, 2.5T is still a great car but (as you know) a Porsche with a flat six is like a vegan steak

Hello Andrew.....do you use a toll tag for your European road trips......and, if so, which one?
@volkswizard
11 ай бұрын
Good question, wouldn't normally go abroad without one - I signed up for a tag with Ulys and used that last year fine but then there was an issue with the direct debit relating to sterling/euro conversion and they basically cancelled the account. They only send you messages in French and it's hard to sort issues out. So this year I did some research and Fulli is the best deal and they work with UK drivers, only issue was their leisurely despatch which meant I missed it by a day or 2, all set for next time though - I went France & Italy www.fulli.com/en/electronic-toll-badge

How do you manage top down and avoid noise in the microphone? I tried some recordings of my recent laps on the Nordschleife (top down) with my iPhone. Didn`t work well.
@volkswizard
10 ай бұрын
On this trip, for simplicity, the mic was on the dash rather than on me which must have helped. It's pretty wind free in that zone but the main difference compared to a phone is the wind muffler.
@loonytoon8836
10 ай бұрын
@@volkswizard thanks. I`ll probably try some external BT mic (with wind muffler) for iPhone then. Since it`s for family and friends at home, I`d like to transport the sound of the GT3s and M cars flying by properly but not at a ton of costs. Gopro and the likes are no real option just for making a few vids.
Great video again! Can I ask.... Didn't you have your wheels painted satin black? They look more grey / anthracite now or is it just the camera?
@volkswizard
11 ай бұрын
Well spotted. Never really mentioned that but I wanted a change for 2023 so had them redone by Prestige Wheel Centre in Porsche satin platinum and chuffed with them, more interesting than silver but tyre/wheel edge more obvious than black. It was a factory option on 981 GTS, just not for UK👍
If I win money Porsche Boxster S my first order. Such a lovely couple. I have the perfect roads here in slightly wilderness NSW.

Why not with the clubsport S?
@volkswizard
11 ай бұрын
Good question, here is the answer; 1) Just come back from Euro trip in CSS so time for a change 2) CSS is not a great car for touring as we don't unload fully each night and luggage visible in CSS. Front and rear boots of Boxster are super secure. 3) These trips are what a 981 GTS was designed for 4) Nice to have roof down when you can for views and engine sound 5) CSS can be a bit boring when not driven hard - it's a car best enjoyed solo as it what it can do on the road is beyond what most passengers can endure. Porsche is still enjoyable pottering around but reaches even greater highs than the CSS on the right roads due to mid-engine balance. Both are 5 star evo magazine cars but Porsche feels special when not driven hard, the Golf feel like...well a Golf! Which is fine but 981 GTS is one of the best sports cars money can (could) buy.

Really enjoy your videos VWizard. Would love to a journey like this one day with my Mrs too! Thinking about a road trip to the Ring next year as I just bought my dream car after trading in my cupra 290 for a B8 RS4!! Yeah not as classic as the B7, not as good a drive as the B9 but its got that great honking V8 and looks brilliantly sporty and muscle car like to me, more importantly i could afford it hahaha. Looking forward to more vlogs.

B8 is great value for money and less maintenance needed than B7 which is a classic now. Ring trip is a great start, but when you realise where you couid be in a few hours from there, you will be back for more. The Swiss passes like Grimsel/Furka/Nufenen are something else 😍
