    Hi Somjit. I enjoy your videos very much. May I ask how long can you keep this? Meaning how many days can it last. Also, can we freeze it for later? Does it keep well, frozen? Thanks. 🤗

    Hi Francesca Vendargon, This can be kept in the fridge for 2-3 days. Please allow the dessert to completely cook down before putting it in the airtight container with no contact with water. Use dry spoon when taking a small portion out. It also can be kept in the freezer for a couple of weeks too but, I would not recommend that as once defrost, the coconut and the beans will lose its lovely texture. I hope this helps. :)

    I dry fry/roast the mung beans before soaking. It gives the dessert a smoky flavour. Gula melaka can get rock hard after storing in the fridge for some time. I take the water that's cooking the beans to dissolve the gula melaka and strain the syrup into the porridge because gula melaka can have some impurities. I suppose brown sugar or raw sugar can be used as substitute for gula melaka.

    The green bean soup taste I'm familair with is when it's boiled in water with rock sugar and sago. This way is cooling and detoxifying. Is yours Thai style?

    Hi joyce anderson, thank you for the question 😄 Yes, they are similar. Gula Melaka is made from coconut palm sugar, although it has a smokier taste and a very deep caramel flavour, due to the way it is prepared 😄

    You didn’t cook the gula Melaka?? Gula Melaka tends to have dirt and insects.. hence need to cook and drained it before cooking

  • @HomeCookingwithSomjit

    @HomeCookingwithSomjit

    Hi Roy Hykel, thank you for the comment 😀 Yes, for this gula melaka, it was not very authentic (bought from KL stores), so it didn't have the dirt and debris that you've mentioned. It's better to buy filtered authentic gula melaka if available, or strain it after it has become liquid, as you have mentioned 😀

    With gula and coconut milk!? That's no longer green bean soup. The gula cover all the flavour. No longer taste of green bean. This is already Chendol. Nah...

    Hi Terry TT, thank you for the comment 😀 Sure, the coconut milk can be omitted and gula melaka can be substituted with a lesser intense sugar. This recipe is closer to Bubur Kacang (Hijau) than cendol 😀 Hope it helps 😀
