Desperate Lions Catch Crocodile to Feed Cubs

This pride of lions is too big to hunt only buck, so they turn to hunting anything and everything, even massive crocodiles!

This extraordinary sighting was captured on camera by Newton Mulenga, a seasoned guide, during a safari in the Busanga Plains within Kafue National Park, Zambia. Newton shared this incredible story of survival with LatestSightings.com.
Busanga Plains is a unique ecosystem in the northern part of Kafue National Park. Known for its swampy terrain that floods during the rainy season, this area becomes a hub of wildlife activity. Among the inhabitants, thousands of lechwe antelopes and large herds of sable and roan antelopes thrive, providing an opportunity for nature lovers to view these very rare antelope.
On this particular day, Newton's attention was drawn to the resident pride of lions, renowned in the area for their hunting prowess. This pride, led by two lionesses known as 'Killing Machine' and 'Princess', is a formidable force in Busanga Plains. Princess, easily identified by her collar, and her sister, Killing Machine, patrol the area with an eye out for anything that will feed their pride. Their pride consists 13 lions including cubs of various ages.
This pride primarily preys on lechwe. However, a single lechwe is rarely sufficient with thirteen hungry mouths to feed, including growing cubs. Their increasing hunger drives them to target larger and more rewarding prey.
In their relentless search for food, the lion pride cornered a massive Nile crocodile. Stranded in a small swampy area and too far from the safety of deeper waters, the crocodile was vulnerable. Despite its attempts to defend itself by snapping aggressively at the lions, it couldn't match the lions' strategic approach.
The turning point came when Princess, the collared lioness, made a daring move. She leaped onto the crocodile's back, biting its neck with her large canines. The combined weight and force of the lions overwhelmed the crocodile, which, after a desperate struggle, succumbed to the pride.
While lions generally do not hunt crocodiles due to the risks involved, it's important to remember that they are opportunistic predators. In the wild, survival often depends on seizing every available chance for a meal. When faced with the pressing needs of their pride, especially with many mouths to feed, lions can display incredible adaptability and courage.

@@chiefbrodyrobertson2950 "The saltwater crocodile is the largest living reptile, with an average size of 17 ft and 1,000 lbs, and a measured maximum of 23 ft and 2,200 lbs!" If the average length is 17ft then I'd say many reach 17ft+ just like the average length for a human male is 5ft 9in - 5ft 10in and most men you meet usually are said size. Crocs won't stop growing but do slow down in growth once a certain size is achieved. diet and environment play a big part in their size and growth as well. Nile crocs average is at around 14-15ft so it's not something I'd say is rare if there are some that are 17ft+.

@JHTCT3-USMC-777 thats just copied and pasted from unreliable sources.Recent studies have shown salties at the 18ft are pretty rare
Those muscles on that lioness. She didn't skip jungle gym and her protein.
That's the Savannah life. One moment you're out looking for prey. The next you're someone else's prey.
I didn't think I would ever feel sorry for a crock.

Kind of reminds me of when this crocodile bites off the foot of another crocodile after the person who feeds them throws a slab of meet into their enclosure. You feel bad, but (in this case) you kind of have to laugh at the way in which it plays out. kzread.info/dash/bejne/fICtj6uiqcLAoJc.html
Crocodiles are almost unbeatable in water and tough opponents on land. However their weakness is they tire easily. Perhaps the Croc got tired and worn out quickly and was overpowered by numbers.

@chairmanxijinpooh8392 Im talking about rhinos elephants hippos etc, crocodiles and lions have a complex relationship they kill each other in rare ocassions.
Crocodile: “Is this what I was doing to others this whole time?”
The company cousin in in South America thinking: amateurs I even hunt them alone from the water 😅
Great, quality footage as always guys. But u should've also shown the preceding footage to give better context. Difficult to conclude that croc was unhealthy, seeing how it swung violently at the lions, & tried running away in the footage not shown here
They looked well fed .not desperate .but they wanted that croc

I don't know, maybe it's me. Did any of the lions told you it's well fed at that moment or you meant how they became after filling up on the croc?

@@josephujiadughele6035 Sure they were probably hungry, but their body condition is great. Those lions are not underweight, this wasn't an act of desperation. They had an opportunity to take down a crocodile in a vulnerable situation which didn't have a large body of water to retreat to. Very cool, but these lions were not at risk of starving or anything, the title is kind of clickbait.
Only about 3 of the lionesses were actually doing the work, the rest were just standing around watching. That’s what we call the construction worker formation.
“Zebras this is for you” - Lions.
The croc was probably tranquilised so they could film this video.
Doesn't look that desperate to me. A crocodile outside the water is an easy prey for a clan of lions.
Anti click-bait! Incredible sight
I guess that the Cats figure..."Hoomanz eat them! Why shouldn't we?"
