Please don't feel guilty. This is your passion. I and many others live vicariously through your builds. You can't control the component supply issues. But if this makes you happy, go for it, overkill the hell out of the build. Can't wait to see the case choice. This excites me. Can't wait to see the results of the new build. GG. 😊

128gbs of ram is overkill for gaming, so is 2 3090s, with that being said I feel like you should do both just because you can. You personal rig has always been over the top and I believe that's what defines you the most.

You don't need thermal pads on the bottom side because there are only memory chips if the ssd is both sided, which don't run hot and doesn't need much cooling, you need cooling for the controller, mostly the temp in the chips is higher because it transfers bit of temp (3-5°c) from controller via transfer mediums (aka heatspreader, thermal pads, etc...)

I have a question. I'm in my 'dust-off-the-knowledge' phase, and reviewing y'all's vids, and here you discuss possible lane-saturation problems with SLI & m.2, and uncertainty if both drives would use the same lane with the dimm.2. So my main question is why not do your C drive in the dimm.2, and your D drive in the m.2, since you seemingly won't be using the 2nd PCIe slot for anything? I imagine accessibility could be an issue, but it seems like that would maximize the throughput..?

Don't know how new they are but I believe the Thermaltake Core P7 cases are still available and are pretty unique looking as they are kind of a hybrid between a case and a test bench on crack. You just have to not want to put anything on top of your case since there is no top panel. Nor front, rear, or bottom panels. Just the 2 sides (one being a tempered glass panel)

M.2_1 shares bandwidth with PCIEX16(G5)_2. When M.2_1 is enabled, PCIEX16(G5)_2 will be disabled. I think what you read is for that M.2 one slot sitting under the instruction label you read. You have to unscrew that cover to get to it. Those 2nd and 3rd M.2 doesn't share lanes, But that first M.2 under the box cover does. You called those M.2 1 and 2 , but it is 2 and 3 what you mean. 11:50

Hey Jay, just gotta call out one thing. The actual difference between the P5 and P5 Plus drives is that the Plus is the PCIe Gen 4 drive. the P5 is just their top end TLC NAND PCIe Gen 3 drive. I'm sure someone else pointed this out as well, but I didn't see it up high.

Jay on this build - I would install the overkill option of dual gfx cards for 2 reasons, one not for gaming but for the OBS and two because you can and its unreasonable, as your personal modern gaming rig you should go to the max to continue where you left off with Skunkworks. I would however consider the lesser option of dual not quad RAM sticks, then look into the Dimm.2 options available to try and find a close to matching option for the corsair ram, thus creating more of spaced the fin design seen in your VRM coolers. it might provide a more aesthetic option also removing the bottleneck to your PCI lanes

You pay so much attention to the aesthetic. I just bought the cheapest option for each specific component I wanted. I didn't care if it was matte black or silver or covered in rgb, if it performed how I wanted and was cheaper it's what I bought.

SLI is NOT dead Jay. There are those of us who bought pairs of high end cards before Covid that have not been ably to buy anything else since. The two GTX 1080s I am running in SLI now still do great even on the ROG Strix X570--E Gaming board I am running now. I've never understood why folks don't think SLI is better than a single card when it comes to the older tech. It makes a HUGE difference. I currently have three SLI rigs running in my house now and even with the original i7 965 CPU on the rig in the bedroom (two 4 gig GTX 680s) they play everything we want to at 1080 just fine. I have another six core i7 (can't remember which one I think it was a socket 2011) running a pair of GTX 980s that clicks along pretty good also. I think Nvidia has put themselves into a position to where their flagship cards are just now exceeding what their older tech could do when run in SLI. Kind of sounds like something Intel would do. I kind of relate this to the cry of "Optical media is dead". I back up to blu ray discs all the time for stuff I want to archive because when bought in bulk single layer blu ray discs are less than $1 each. $1 is pretty cheap for 25 gigs of backup space. Anyhow thanks a lot for continuing to do what you do we all appreciate it.

*Thank you for this content.* This is more of what is helpful to me and the members of my Discord. This information is especially helpful as the technology changes and new/different choices emerge. Your explanation as to why you made these choices in a way that the processes can stick for future use is most helpful. Educational. That this is focused on sustainable hours long gaming vs and extreme build for one time max - make this meaningful and usable. I will point out though that in the world of Study-Level Flight Simulation in VR (such as DCS in hi-resolution VR ) there is no such thing as overkill with technology horsepower. We use all that is available in CPU/GPU/MB Tuning and Cooling.

Jay don't know if you have a 3090 kingpin still, but if you could get your hands on an optimus cerakote waterblock in time then that would be an insanely cool aesthetic and potentially overkill enough without the SLI. Oh, I also just found out about the bykski granzon line, and those fittings would match so well here.

I think it would be cool to go with an old school case for this build and mod the case. Something like the AZZA Hurrican 2000 from 2010, which is huge and distinctive, and came with 4x 230mm fans & 4x 120mm fans. I love the case mod videos, but would love to see a case mod for an older case. And I'm not just saying that because I have an old AZZA Hurrican in my basement that I don't know what to do with...
