Designing a Formed Intake in CAD | K20/K24 Swap Intake Design in Fusion 360 - Part 3 #Fusion360

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video we are going to dive deeper into Intake Design and learn how to make a formed intake using both Surfacing tools and Form tools in Fusion 360. In order to build one of these you will either need to build a wooden buck and hammer form the shape, or build a DIY Hydroformer using a pressure washer. I would pick the hammer formed version myself.
We will walk through several key topics. How to reuse work we have already done. How to lay out planes and guide curves. And how to loft a surface and convert it to a solid followed by the same process using Form tools.
Here is the starting point dataset from EP2 with the DIY Intake: a360.co/38ESCHX
00:00 Introduction
00:13 Design Overview
03:45 Copy and Paste New on the Old Plenum
05:37 Cleaning up the Copy
13:45 Building the Plenum Plate
21:08 Building the Loft Guides
30:40 Building the Lofted Surface
34:40 Thicken the Plenum
36:00 Splitting the Plenum in half
37:02 Creating a Plenum with Form Tools
47:05 Thicken the Form Body

Thanks Tyler, glad it was helpful! I know not many people want to watch this long of a video, but hopefully the ones that do find it useful. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for a few more in this series!

Please add something related to CNC this is a great series. As a design engineer I still find I learn a thing or two from others to make things quicker.

Thanks! I will be doing at least one version that is CNC. I haven't decided if it will be welded or bolted together but another episode will follow!

Thanks.. this whole channel is amazing.. Regarding intakes, is it possible to do a simple flow analysis like you could when flow design was free?

thanks! Sadly Fusion doesn't currently have any CFD to do a flow simulation so the design would need to be exported to another software that could do that.

i have been trying to make this same thing, but instead on forming i will be making the plenum chamber out of a 5 axis mill. and also instead of welding it together i will be bolting it to the runner flange. i am lofting from the TB flange to the runner flange but want to shell out the guts to a certain wall thickness and profile. but i am coming into all kinds of issues.

Did anyone else try to follow along with him. I downloaded the model but I couldn't access the timeline for some reason. Did I just overlook something? I usually use Inventor, I'm not used to Fusion 360.

I just checked the link in the video and opened it up in Fusion and it shows the timeline at the bottom. Have you messed with any settings in Fusion? Fusion has the ability to not capture design history. IF you happen to have a design open and you tried to open the intake in that design you may have had the history off. If that is the case you will need to reimport it. either upload it to your data panel/project and open that way, go to File > Open. or from the link in the vid desc just click "Open in Fusion". you may see a pop up in your browser about nLauncher, that is needed so OK that.

Hi Laurent, thanks for the sub! I am not sure what you want in terms of dimensions. In the description of the video you can download the starting point model. I don't have dimensions on how much room is needed as I am doing a K24 swap in a mitsubishi starion. every vehicle will be different.
