I always wondered how individual corps members learn their movements. Very interesting! It must have been a more laborious process before computer programs got involved.

between DCI, bands, and WGI, ~10 shows a year since the mid 90s wouldnt be a bad guess, think 98 was his first year with Cavies...

When I as in High School - the late 70s, we were doing DCI type shows - no "ankle-knee" no "rank-and file" - pretty involved choreography. The band director taught us our show using the "one shoe on- one shoe off" technique. Meaning, we would show up on the field holding our left shoe in our hand. Reading the choreography chart, the director would take our "off" shoe and place it to the next mark, telling us, "you have the next two measures, and 14 steps to get from here to there, keeping 'corp-front' " etc, etc.

Im not sure about 10 years ago. But now you have to audition, then pay money to be in DCI bands. For uniform, food, transport. It's only during the summer and you age out at 21 meaning you can't preform after 21

it is sad that the regular kid on the Block can no longer be part of a drum and bugle Corps it was a great activity for kids and something worth working for now it's all college kids damn near professionals and instead of precision and drill it's theater now they're introducing band instruments so now it's no longer Drum Corps it's a theatrical band

plenty of local/ parade/ weekend corps around. Some market themselves specifically as "starter" corps for those looking to go world class. And there are some spectacular Open class corps out there. These corps are where a lot of the HS kids or those that can't give up a whole summer go.

What you see in that point of the video is they might be working on a scatter drill part of their show? Not 100% sure. I honestly love their shows, but for a while it did seem like they would save their most difficult musical moments for when they're standing still. Over the past few years, a lot more corps have become more brave and it's paying off.
