Desert Survival: How to Start a Fire without a Lighter or Matches

Спорт

Up your survival skills and learn how to start a camp fire without a lighter or matches. The bow drill is an ancient method of fire starting and is a great skill for anyone to learn who likes to spend their time in the outdoors. This method requires practice. But once you learn it, it will stay with you for years. This is primarily useful in desert regions, as I talk about what materials to look for. But these same skills can transfer to other regions as well, substituting local materials for the sage, juniper, and pine.

It is kind of magical, as the embers go into the tinder bundle, and blowing on it brings the flame. Fun video!

Doesn't a notch on the side help collect the dust that then forms an ember more easily?

Nice work Eric.! Have you ever used a small credit card sized fresnel lens to start a fire? I've watched several KZread videos about them, Seems they can be an excellent light weight way to get a fire going in sunny conditions, less work then making a bow drill. Food for thought...
