I am not comfortable adding this to my site or KZread channel. I receive many emails and messages asking me how people can help support The Art Gear Guide, mainly I think due to the fact that I purchase all of the supplies myself, except those sent directly from companies kind enough to do so. I have decided to add a donations button to my site, however, I feel the best way to add such a campaign is as follows, all donations made will be used to purchase art products for review, however, all products purchased using donated funds, after they have been reviewed, will be used as giveaways to subscribers of the KZread Channel, the web site or any of the above social media platforms. This way I personally will not benefit from financial donations. I have set this channel and site up for my own enjoyment and not profitable gain. I would just like to say thank you to each and everyone of you, I really don't know what I have done to deserve such wonderful people following and supporting my videos. I am incredibly aware of the fact of just how fortunate, blessed and honoured I am to have so many wonderful people who genuinely care. All of you are worth your weight in Gold, Silver, Titanium and Diamonds, I wouldn't trade what I have built up with you guys for all the money in the world and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. It's nice to have a wee bit of money, but money won't tell you everything is going to be okay, Money won't always support you. Thank you all so so very much.

I have been following you for a long time. For a few months I have missed some videos because of my work, but I am here now and what you say reaches me very deeply. First of all that you were so brave to show your face! (Not sure but I have never seen you in any of your videos before). Then your openness and honesty. I was also mentally bullied for a long time in school, and I am not sure how I came out of it practically alone... but I was not as young maybe as your daughter and I was defiant as hell. But I can imagine what it is like for her... god bless her heart. Tell her that she is the center of her own universe! Tell her that she will outshine those bullies and her future will NOT be stained by them!. Also, about PTSD... I made some research as I am writing about veterans with PTSD, and although I did not experience this, I am aware that this is living hell. You are a true hero, for yourself (very important!), for your family and for some invisible people like me as well:) This might not mean too much but I see you and your comrades as role models - for bravery, heroism, standing up to a cause. About the pencils I will always come to you to know about a product because I absolutely trust your honesty in reviews - you are so human, in the most beautiful kind of sense, that you feel like a friend to me. Thank you so much for that.

I was bullied in middle and high school, but it was pretty mild compared to the bullying kids these days are experiencing given the proliferation of social media. I can't imagine what she's been going through. What I also can't accept is that society often sympathizes with the bullies while offering no sympathy to their victims.

Thank you for your lovely comment and I am so sorry that you had to experience bullying personally, I can only imagine what that was like for you and your family, although I have more of an understanding about how your family must have felt. You are so right about social media. I love using social media and for the most part, it can be such a good tool for people keeping in touch with loved ones or expanding business ideas. But as with so many things in life, in the wrong hands, anything can be turned into a destructive weapon and social media is no exception.

I deeply appreciate all the time and work you put into creating these videos for us. Your reviews are top-notch. Amelia is always in my thoughts. I can relate to being bullied, as well as being the parent of a child who was bullied. That's probably the best thing about my kids being adults now. They're not being bullied anymore, but I'm still very much aware of the long-term effects of bullying. It doesn't just hurt while it's happening, but can really damage a person's confidence and self-esteem and telling your child to ignore it or not let it affect them doesn't solve the problem. We can't just turn off our emotions and not feel. I pray that love and positivity will overpower the pain your dear daughter has endured and help her overcome and triumph. Bless you all!

Wow Kim I am so sorry to hear about the disgusting behaviour your poor daughter had to go through. It frustrates me so much because I dedicated my entire adult life to helping protect those unable to protect themselves for whatever reason via my roll as a British Soldier. I got so much satisfaction helping help and even when I was at school, as I mentioned in the video, I have never ever experienced bullying anywhere I went, but there was a lad in our form class who got picked on a bit by three lads from a different class and my mates and I put a stop to it, made sure that nothing ever happened to him again. I can't stand men who hit women, bullies regardless of their age. We have three children and if I thought for a single second that one of them was bullying another child, I can guarantee they would never do it again. I get and understand that kids can be cruel, but they have to be taught that there is a line and that they are messing with other peoples lives that can last their entire life. I wish I knew the answer to preventing bullies from making other kids lives hell, but I don't. Thank you so much for you wonderful comment and I am so sorry that your daughter had to go through that, it is sick and so sad.

I'm so sorry to hear that is happening to your daughter. I was bullied for years and at the time it was considered "normal", "kids tease kids" mentality here in Brazil. It's changing now, but that really marks us for life. I'm happy she is getting help and that you, as a father take this problem seriously. My family didn't care about it and just told me to ignore the people bullying me. Years later I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and now they are so sorry they didn't look for help earlier. I love your videos, you reEvery calming and honest and I always feel like your approach to colored pencils is achievable to me. I ended up buying the Faber Castell polychromos set, its cheaper in Brazil when its on sale. I still watch all of your videos and dream on expanding my collection. We are moving to Germany next year and I am going to buy lots of new colored pencils and practice a lot.

Oh Camila that is so terrible what you went through, I wish I had the answer to eradicate bullies, but I just don't think it will ever be eradicated. I do think the only way to beat a bully is to fight back, but not all children have that type of character, which is actually a good thing, nor should children have to live their lives at the ready for a fight just because some other kid doesn't like the word no, or just is incredibly cruel . Thank you so much for your incredibly kind comment, you are too kind.

I was bullied at high school. My dad kept telling me to hit them and they will leave you alone. I would not touch them, even though I was more than capable of doing. If I had stood up to them, they would have left me alone. Now, as an adult who has dated a man that beat women up, but not me. I stood up to him. Bully’s are cowards at heart. I get sick of hearing about people’s bad childhoods being the cause of their behaviour. From the age of 10, we know the difference between right and wrong. We have a choice how we behave. I hope your daughter, gets over the experience and can find the emotional and mental peace that young people her age should be feeling. You do not have to apologise!

Hi Debbie, thank you so much for your kind words and I am so sorry to hear about your story. I was the same with Amelia, I would tell her to first tell them to stop, give them three warnings to stop antagonising her and then if that didn't work to do something about it, but Amelia was so scared of getting into trouble from the teachers she just never could. You see we brought all three of our children to have a healthy respect / fear of authority, Teachers, Police, adults especially the elderly etc. So Amelia was conflicted between standing up for herself and getting into trouble with the teachers or just accepting the abuse from these girls. Amelia if she had of lost her temper could have done real damage and I think that played on her mind as well, she was incredibly strong because of her gymnastics and she knew how strong she was.

The Art Gear Guide , I was the same as your girl. Bullies, just make life miserable for the people they bully. It’s wrong of the school to make excuses for them. It would be more pro active if the school taught the bullies that that behaviour is not acceptable in society.

Nothing was ever done until eventually he stood up for himself and ended up getting expelled for it. Long story short, I've been homeschooling him for the past 5 years now. He misses going to public school at times, but he doesn't want to go back.

@@miaomiaochan They arrested him. And the only way he can go back to public school is if we send him to boot camp that is at the juvenile detention center. This all happened because after years of these kid beating on him and calling him names because he's a little over weight and he's autistic. So they'd call him "fat ass" and "retard" a lot. Eventually he hit one of them with a school book. So they said he assaulted another child with a weapon. He ended up having to do 6 months of probation.

We also removed our daughter from her previous school and I spoke to the school staff prior to enrolling her at her new school and made them aware of why we moved her and it was the absolute best decision we could have made for her. The only time anyone has ever been even rude to her since, the situation was actually addressed and dealt with promptly and hasnt happened anymore. Hi Kim, as with so many amazing people sharing their own personal stories on this video, I am so sorry to hear that you have had to go through this as well with your daughter. We had thought about taking her out of the school and into another one, but the school she is in, in supposed to be the best in our area. Home schooling wouldn't work at all for us, I would have to be the one doing the teaching and I am as thick as they come, so her education would really suffer. Mind you nothing is off the table if it makes her happy and we get a little bit of our daughter back as opposed to the shell of a kid living in her bedroom. Thank you so much Kim for sharing your story and for your wonderfully kind words.

And I'm in the process of looking for an algebra tooter. But it got so bad I was picking her up early from school 3 to 4 times a week because she would be throwing up from her nerves. I couldn't make her go back anymore. I live in the country in a one red light town. So there is only one school here. Wish I could have sent her to a different one. But did not have that option. I deeply emphasize with what you and your family have been going through with your daughter being bullied. I myself was bullied when I was in school and all 3 of my children were bullied at some point. Kids can be so damn cruel and I understand all the frustrations you've encountered with this. I ended up removing my youngest daughter from her previous school because it got so severe and she was so depressed, she was having thoughts of suicide and we had to get her into therapy. I shed a lot of tears watching this video. I sincerely feel your pain and appreciate your openness about this issue. If the bullies had good parenting and guidance and counseling themselves, they might not resort to hurting others as much as they do. There's an old saying: "Hurt people hurt people" and I believe it to be true. I fervently hope that your daughter isn't forever scarred by this awful experience. I hope things are better and continue to get better still. No one deserves to be bullied and abused. I commend you and your wife for doing the best you can to help your darling child. I wish you all the very best and would also like to say a sincere thanks to you for your efforts and contribution to the art community. I hope to get this beautiful set of pencils soon. They are lovely. Best to you and your family.

I am so so sorry to hear about your own children suffering at the hands of bullies as well Crystal. I do get so frustrated about it and what makes things worse for me is while Amelia is losing out on her education by refusing to go to school out of fear, the other girls involved are still going about their day as if nothing has happened and their education is still on track. Like I say in the video, nobody every hit Amelia but I often think that emotional abuse is more destructive than certain forms of physical abuse. Thank you so much for your lovely comment and I am so sorry to hear about your children and the terrible ordeal they had to endure.

@@TheArtGearGuide 100% emotional abuse is worse than physical abuse because the wounds are invisible to the eye but go much deeper, hurt more and last longer. It really is unfair and as evidenced by the fact that bullying still exists, doing nothing does exactly that. I don't understand how or why the schools turn a deaf ear and blind eye to blatant abuse and behave as if it's not even happening. It makes you feel so powerless and almost hopeless when nothing is done. It seems to me that it'll take a revolution to eliminate bullying. Our children deserve to be able to go to school and learn without fear and anxiety. Parents shouldn't have to be reduced to begging the officials to do something or be forced to remove their kids from school. When kids are bullied, it should be a given that it MUST be dealt with. The bullies are the ones who should be removed, especially if previous disciplinary actions to stop them has failed. Why should they have a right to do wrong? Society is so messed up! They've got it all backward. I fervently hope things get better. Hang in there and keep the lines of communication open with your daughter. Let her know she is loved and cherished and never alone. I'm sure you do that already... Lots of love and positive vibes to you and your family.

My heart goes out to your daughter. Being bullied now is so much worse than it was when I was growing up, especially with the advent of cyber bullying. Back in the day, it was considered part of growing up and many parents didn't understand the problem or provide support for their children. Thankfully your daughter has two supportive parents. You may be frustrated because all of your efforts on her behalf have not yielded the desired results, but at least she knows that she is not alone in facing the bullying. And based on my own experiences, that means a lot. I am thankful that someone has provided the means for your daughter to attend a private school. Hopefully this will allow your family to find some peace. As much as I enjoy your product videos, it is good to know that you put your family first. So sorry to hear about your daughter being bullied! It’s so hard being a kid. Plus being the parent of a bullied child is so frustrating when you find there’s absolutely nothing you can do. There should be arbitration facilities for them all to sit down and sort it out. ... but like you stated, the bullies are treated like victims and there’s more help for them than the child at the receiving end of their abhorrent behaviour! Cams are absolutely useless, and it doesn’t seem to be the postcode lottery situation ... they’re just crappy right across the country. Thankfully you’ve got an alternative. I hope things settle down for your family and your daughter is okay. On another note, I have the new Derwent Metallic... absolutely adore them. On a dark surface they really stand out a treat! I happened run into a Walmart to pick up some pencil sharpeners and saw that they were liquidating the older Derwent 12-sets for $12Cdn (I think that works out to about £7 - very good deal at that price. Hi Harry, I’ve watched some of your reviews and find them informative and they have saved me loads by not buying what I don’t need. Thank You I’ve just subscribed! As for your daughters experiences of being bullied, I can see and hear how much you and your wife/family are absorbing her pain. You are the constants in what must be a frightening and turbulent world for her - she will get stronger as she watches how you all navigate your way through this difficult time. Having worked with children for over 30 years I have seen first hand the damage caused and the lack of self awareness and lack of ownership bullies perpetuate. Society is creating a bleak future for children’s emotional intelligence and I believe we all have to take responsibility for investing in children’s emotional Intelligence from infancy and that schools and society need to revisit the notion that bullying is something to be tolerated not stamped out (excuse the pun)! Sorry for the rant😊

Hi Kathy, thank you so very much for the incredibly kind comment and for subscribing to the channel, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it. Also thank you so much for your kind words about Amelia. You are absolutely 100% right, if things remain they way they are, the numbers of young children suffering serious mental health issues and suicide will rise even more than they are currently at and the numbers already are totally unacceptable. I was a child of the 70’s and 80’s, I am sure some kids seriously suffered with mental health complications, however they were most certainly in the minority. Kids now have the weight of the world on them from a very young age. Before Amelia really broke down regarding the bullying, at aged 12 and 13 she would come home from school and play with her dolls. She always used to ask my wife and I if this was okay and was she being a baby. We always told her if playing with her dolls made her happy that was all that mattered. She would always tell us not to say anything to her friends at it, which we never, but I just personally feel kids have their childhood taken away from them at such a young age. Of course they have to be aware of certain things as they get older, but they still need to retain their childhood for as long as they can. We are all adults soon enough and so I feel kids should enjoy being kids while they can. Thank you so much Kathy for your comment I really appreciate it.

Hi Harry, you are welcome! One of the biggest influences in our children’s lives are the internet and social media. Yes obviously the children doing this have deep problems, but this PC thing has got completely out of hand. Hopefully they will grow out of it soon and realise there is more to life. My heart goes out to your daughter, and hope all this is resolved soon. X

Just want to drop it here that Derwent has put the copper paperweight thingy set on sale and it's now 19.99 GBP instead of 50 GBP until the end of June (2020). Sounds much more reasonable! Thank you for your hard work, I love your channel, it's my "calm down and relax" place. Ironically, my millenial butt has never been into colour pencils - oil painting being my default medium - but your enthusiasm is infectious and your videos are a real pleasure. After years of watching you, I decided to join the pencil art therapy and my wallet just took a major hit in exchange for various lightfast goodies ;-) Hope your daughter is still growing in her confidence and strength!

Its a couple years later and I pray your daughter is much better. I sent a special prayer regardless. I told my mother all the horrible things other girls said to me and how they spread untrue rumors about me to hurt me. She told me that some females always attack other females' that they are jealous of. She told me she herself was bullied because she was so beautiful! She said beautiful females always get bullied the most. Even more than some who are just uniquely different. People like that are not happy unless they are putting someone else beneath their feet. She also said I was more beautiful & different than they so I better get used to getting attacked for it by other females. She also said that I must remember that if they were not going after me, they would be going after and hurting some other poor soul. My mom was so wise! it was still hard but I grew up to work in mental health and turns out she was right. Thanks for this review.

Sorry to hear your daughter has been going through so much. I'm not sure what's going on with bullying in schools over the last 10 or more years but there seems to be lots of "keep the bullied child in at break times while the bully gets to play outside" which completely baffles me. I've also noticed with my youngest daughter's friends, the kids that would have been fine in school back when I went are the ones getting really badly bullied now and so many schools deny they have any problems with bullying at all.

  • @TheArtGearGuide

You are so right Mink, When Amelia was being bullied at school and we spoke to the teachers they suggested moving Amelia into different classes and I said to them, why should it be Amelia being disrupted, she hasn't done anything wrong, why is it the child doing the bullying gets to remain in their familiar environment whereas the child being bullied gets moved and disrupted. It doesn't make sense.

  • @minkg8178

    @minkg8178

@@TheArtGearGuide yeah they seem to view it as "keeping the child safe" but they are simultaneously punishing the bullied child and rewarding the bully who just sees that the system works perfectly for them. It seems obvious to do it the other way around, so I'm not sure why so many schools are using this method.

Absolutely NO apology is needed. Family is always first. I'm sorry to hear of your daughter's problems. I was bullied from time to time in school but it was never a lasting thing, but I understand how those things can be, and I know it can effect your whole life. I worked as a Deputy Sheriff for 10 years and we ran into this sort of thing occasionally. What we recommend when all else had failed was to change schools with the school board's permission. Usually would involve transfer of the student to another nearby school of the same grade level, and usually necessitating the need for the student to be driven to school as opposed to riding a bus. Just a thought. My prayers and best wishes. Sorry to go on so long.

Thank you so much Mitch, I really appreciate your advice. The School we sent her to in supposed to be the best in the area, we pass about four schools to get her to the school she is at. But we have thought about changing schools, but she isn't interested, I guess she thinks the same thing would happen at another school. We can't home school her either because if we did that, my wife works, I stay at home due to my disability and so I would be the one educating her and I am as thick as two short planks. It would be like the blind leading the blind. But we really need to get something sorted because she is going to lose out on so much valuable education. I know academia is not for everyone, but there has to be a basic level of understanding at the very least. Our eldest daughter is very Arty, Amelia is very sport orientated, or at least used to be and our son is incredibly academic. He just got his GCSE results and he got 5 A*, 4 A, 2 B and a C. He is studying Chemistry, Physics, Higher Maths and EP (Ethics and Philosophy). My wife is very bright and I am the other side of that spectrum, however, I only ever wanted to be a Soldier and I was excellent at that job. I know it sounds a bit big headed but I loved my career in the Army and as a result was fierce. Had I of left the Army by choice, I absolutely would have applied to the Police or Fire Service, I very much would have remained in a similar field to the Military. Thank you so much Mitch for your comment, I really appreciate it.

I understand your struggle with this situation, my child is enthic and things werent always the best at her school we ended up getting help but things almost went topsy turvy as adults seem to instigate issues then I realized that they are very sheltered individuals who basically never opened their souls to improvement of their ideas and that thought and sometimes when I had conversations with the adults at her school I played toward guilt as I would say God throws situations our way to help us grow as adults it's up to us to take those challenging situations and become the best person that houses our soul fir the good of younger generations...most time this stopped those adults in their tracks....also our total family all got postive benefits from the help i mean most of people see A dentist or eye doctor thru out their life why isnt in important to some people to see a dr for mental health tunes up. Really I agree ..mean people just suck.... I also understand PTSDas I was a assualt victim in my early 20s, and I also I lost a few friends and family members to suicide thru guns.. here in usa it breaks my soul that we cant have universal healthcare I think if we did more families would be able to afford counseling for issues whether it's for better parenting skill classes on how to be better strong more well rounded family units to just everyday stressors...at times now tho I'm so afraid lately for my country as I see so much hate so much I cant even watch tv news anymore...I'm weary of even talking to people anymore.... I'm internally grateful for videos like yours feel like I've found a good outlet and postive thoughts thru our art community and your honest comments on everyday situations your family goes thru. You remain calm and non judgmental about these issues. I thank you knowing that are other human beings and other parents and adults going thru same issues... many blessing to you and your family for your health and safety.....

Every single person that visits The Art Gear Guide has a voice and I welcome as much feedback, questions and opinions as possible, the more the merrier, I think all of you guys leaving your opinions and asking questions is the very thing that makes my channel so interesting. I definitely think Derwent should do something with the Studio range, of all the pencils they make, the Studio is the only pencil I struggled a little bit with. However, in fairness, the Studio pencil was one of the first pencils I tried, now with a bit more understanding of the importance of paper, things might be a little bit different.

I was bullied without measure. I was skinny as a rail. Blonde as could be . I was a ballet student. I was into art. I liked things most kids my age didn’t. Don’t let her give up on her gymnastics. I wanted to play violin, I love science and math. I love musical theater. And my favorite band is and always has been Queen. Here in America NONE of these things go done well in grade school or junior high. Tell her it will change once you are out of high school NONE of it matters. College is another world. Most bullies are bullied themselves at home. Tell her to ignore them and just walk away. I know that’s hard to do, I wish I could go back and tell my younger self these things. It’s a much more complicated world due to social media. Don’t let her give up on what SHE loves to do. Just be there for her.

Being bullied is terrible and very dangerous for kids and can cause damages forever. I know Ben Cohen also doing good stuff in this area: www.standupfoundation-uk.org. I think it needs more attention, publicity and awareness. At the end of the day, it’s a kid, bullying another kid.

I pulled him to the side and told him dont you dare bully anybody on the bus and you need to understand why they walkmaround like that. He looked at me and said, its their parents fault? I said yes. Next day he offered to bring a backpack for them, because theynwere totally ripped too. You can do something about bullying but the mentality of teachers straight up sucks. Hi, I am a first-time viewer here. I can see the pain on your face and in your voice. You are a good person and this should not be happening to your family. I cannot stress enough that you need not apologize. I am sure all of your subscribers know your heart and character and can totally understand. I live in the US and dislike what this world has become -- so full of hatred and insane political correctness. It is not right. I think a lot of young people have been brainwashed in school to have a socialist mind set -- me me me, what can you do for me, what can you give me. This has created a world of selfish, self-centered people. I despise people who pick on the weaker of society, especially children and animals. I try to believe there is a God and that he will disperse his own justice one day. All I can do is hope. Meanwhile, my heart and prayers go out to your daughter and your family. Don't ever apologize for doing what is right. Hugs....
