That’s heavy commentary by Coach Derrick. Many fighters & fans alike don’t really think about the aftermath as much as the build up. What he said is real & Kenny does overstep. If you’ve never had a proactive Father Kenny could seem like the ultimate Dad. But if you have one who raised you to be your own man, the Captain of your ship, then you know that great Fathers know when to step back & release the reins.

For Shawn, I think part of the source of that energy is the fight, the other part is his Father. I wouldn't even be surprised if Kenny throws Shawn under the bus & blames his loss on the fact that Shawn didn't listen to what he told him to do. A failure to follow his plan. That's the vibe I get from Kenny. I hope I'm wrong because that will be an embarrassing mess on Saturday night if we're right.

Yeah, Spence could end up the same way. If you look at his defense its lacking. He has a mexican style with no head movement. Leaning back is his defense. If he fought the same level of talent Shawns been fighting he would have been through some wars too. Brook was serving him before the injury took over. He looks like he trust his chin but i think its more like a Khan issue of getting caught up in his offensive work and forgetting about defense. Even Emmanuel Lartey stunned him in the 7th rnd and made him come out in the 8th backing up for the 1st time the entire fight, which was also the only round he probably loss. Hes not an accurate enough puncher to fight successfully on the defense.

Kenny is trying to sell that he was somehow a major influence in errols career and he was simply an asst coach serving as the mitt man over a 3 week period. Trying to say that errol was listening to him during the brook fight... kenny is in it for him and he is using his son. Blindfolding ur son doing mitt work and then acting like ur gonna punch him and kick him in front of the media while the blindfold is on... thats what Derrick is referring to. A blindfold??? I guess he is trying to get shawn ready for swollen eyes from eating all that leather

I'm a fan of father/son relationships, and family. From the outside looking in I see tough love between Shawn and his father. Boxing is a tough sport that is best understood by actively doing it - in my opinion. Shawn comes across as a balanced young man who is a heck of a champion, articulate and likeable. Got to give dad (Kenny) and mum props for that!

All that is good and well but this is the man's career and health and it's not benefiting him especially health wise with kenny as his trainer. It will be a sad day when his articulate son start slurring words or can't take care of himself because his father whom never boxed himself did not teach him the basics like perrying punches or what a high guard was.

@@kamone8978 I'm pretty sure Kenny boxed in the past and is ambidextrous - I therefore wouldn't question his acumen as a trainer. So far Shawn's boxed pretty well to me, but his past few fights has seen him place more emphasis on attrition as his main strategy to overcome his opponents, which can appear reckless at this elite level.

@@andrewcohen8734 Shawn is an elite athlete he is not an elite boxer. He beats opponents off of shear aggression and work rate. He does have skill and showed skill as an amateur but has not as a pro. His style works for him early in his career but as the opponents skill level increased he should have gotten a new trainer. His father can only take him so far. Know he has famed trainer Barry Hunter in his camp as assistant trainer and thinks enough time to learn what he needs to deal with the likes of Spence. Furthermore kenny is still calling the shots it has to be confusing and I hope he figures it out bc honestly I think Spence is going to hurt him.

Shawn's performances may just be a consequence of his limitations as a fighter. I like Spence but he's going to have to overcome Shawn's aggressiveness, power and underrated skills in order to win, and therein lies Shawn's keys to victory. We're in for a good fight! Enjoy

This is how you get in the fighter’s head before a fight. You make him question his training, and most of all, question his team. In the corner, he’s gonna question everything his dad says. After this fight, he’s either going to retire or drop his dad. DSG is thinking the same thing. Fathers only want the best for their sons, but they need to know when to step aside.
