So true, behind the scenes in R.T.E. Dermot Morgan R.I. P. wasn't appreciated enough by R.T.E. It was just as well Fr. Ted was picked by channel 4 not by R.T.E. because he done some shows with rte and were off the air by one season. If only rte at the time gave him credit he would not have had the heart attack.

He was a brilliant comic mind, he could write all his own stuff and it was hilarious but the impersonation's were exceptional. You have to have that ear. I have it, not to his extent, but I never had the exuberance to display it. Certain few can pick up the essence of somebody and repeat it seamlessly. He had that talent. Huge talent. It's very rare to get someone who has both talents to write and do the impersonations. In America, they produce it to death. But in fairness to RTE and I don't want to compliment them too much (they only ever stifled talent, f√¢king clueless), but they gave him a forum. That was until, they turned down Father Ted. Tell me you're RTE without telling me.... And then he did all of these brilliant parody songs with guitar. He displayed both talents best on a cassette that was given away with football's as part of a promotion with Texaco garages for World Cup Italia '90. My Auntie Margaretta opened a Texaco in Waterford City, opposite the Mercy Convent School and gave them to me when I visited with my mother and sister. I still remember the day, the atmosphere, the experience. What a bloody character she was in her own right. I was 13. I remember her incredible wit. Deadpan, f√¢king killer delivery. Every sentence was a comedic take on life, in between each cigarette inhalations was a f√¢king one liner to make you crease. A personality on her you couldn't believe. I would give ANYTHING to talk to her today. Instead, I'm staring at the wall. If I can't talk to the likes of her, I'd prefer to talk to nobody. I wish I could listen to that Dermot Morgan album now. Never anybody like him since or before. It's simply not hyperbolic or personal nostalgia, but as a country, we never had anyone like Dermot Morgan before or since. He was beyond once in a generation. I'm sure the Aprés Match guys were hugely influenced by him. They went on to do great Dunphy's etc, but Dermot did them first and he was outstanding. Would have been a huge SNL type star talent or on The Howard Stern Show. Glad we got to enjoy him as much as we did, but he should have been known and remembered worldwide ❤ Thank you for posting this, haven't seen or heard his content for ages 🙏🏻
