Small, Far Away - The World of Father Ted, pt 3.

Комедия

On the 15th anniversary of its launch, this documentary follows Father Ted creators Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews as they return to Craggy Island on a road trip across Ireland, taking them back to some of the key filming locations from the series.
Father Ted captured a specific Irish humour rarely seen on screen and its impact doesn't seem to have faded. The show is revealed as a product of a pair of ambitious writers, a brilliant cast and the gently confident producer Geoffrey Perkins, whose suggestion of turning a one-off mock documentary into a sitcom helped make it the much-loved show it is today.
Ardal O'Hanlon, Frank Kelly, Graham Norton and many others pitch in with their reminiscences of the show, the passion it inspired and their memories of the late, great Dermot Morgan.

I love the bit where Ardal and Frank go into the house for a cup of tea, we see Dermot (as Ted) hightailing it away from the house, nice symbolism. RIP Dermot and Frank

He dropped dead at his home during a dinner party with family and friends. The day before, he was filming his last scenes with Tommy Tiernan where both are dancing in the living room. They had to keep doing retakes of the same scene to get it right and Dermot was complaining of having pains in his chest. Frank Kelly revealed years later that Dermot was on Blood Pressure Tablets at the time. In a strange twist of irony, Both would die on February 28th 18 years apart of the same thing

To hear the immortal words at around 5.20 of "Do you want a cup of tea"?, and then the second or two of thought from the Father Jack actor, and then hearing the wonderful " Ah go on" was quite spine tingling. I think the wonderful Pauline Mclynn should have been there too, if only in respect to the writers who gave us this excellent warm show.

It's the strangest thing. Watching them return to the house and reminise about making the show, gave me a pang of the same sort bittersweet nostalgia as if I had returned to somewhere from my own childhood, decades later. Graham and Arthur really did create something so special.
