This is a great video. Id recommended people see a dermatologist. I notice many general practitioners just assume it’s fungus and prescribe that ketonazole shampoo, I’m a home care nurse and see it all the time. When my son was younger I took him to the dermatologist and found out it his was psoriasis.

It was a medicated shampoo though that was only avail from a script. When he was a teenager he also had bad acne so the dermatologist ordered Accutane which stopped the acne and significantly improved the psoriasis to the scalp. Occasionally he gets a skin flare and for that he has triamcinolone cream that the the dermatologist prescribes. Hope this helps somewhat

I've seen a lot of derm videos on dandruff but Dr Ellis's video really caught my attention because I just like the way she explains things - we both started using a dandruff shampoo similar to nizoral that we like and use a few days a week and we now have flake free itch free scalps. I listened to influencers and coworkers who were saying that if you have oily hair you need to "balance" your scalp by going long periods of time without washing it b/c it's an over-washing issue. Learned my lesson as I ended up with an awful seb derm situation that required prescription steroids to start to heal. Took mnnths and months to really get it under control. The lesson? As a hairstylist of almost a few years, I can tell you, that you are not meant to apply strong hair shampoo on your hair. I've noticed hair lines of so many folks, and I spotted that folks who were using strong shampoos typically had poor hair line. So I suggest only to use gentle shampoo only. I myself use and advise to apply littleextrra coconioon shampoo only. Also, do hot oil massage twice a week as it enhances circulation and promotes healthy hair growth.

My hair being incredibly curly, thick, and coarse is difficult to wash thoroughly, but ive learned the value of rinse and repeat. My scalp past my hairline is clean, its much much easier to get the shampoo further back around the crown. And it has ended up saving me a lot more shampoo than just meticulously sectioining and coating every square centimeter of my scalp while also doing a more thorough job at the end of the day.

I believe I started having dandruff as early as before 6th grade in school. I've been using this particular anti-dandruff shampoo for at least 18 years now. Whenever I tried using regular shampoos (idk why, maybe just to try how it will work on my hair), at least a week after, my scalp gets itchy with white flakes, so I then go back to using this anti-dandruff shampoo again. Just recently, I started to wash may hair every other day because they said (from some people I know and from those videos I have watched) you really don't have to wash hair everyday. After 1-2 weeks, my scalp started getting so itchy. Went back to washing my hair everyday again and now it feels better. My hair gets oily after a day and I guess it's also because of where I live that skipping hair wash is really a no-no.

Yep. I have been using Head & Shoulders every day for almost 40 years. If I do not wash my hair every day, dandruff comes back. I can alternate in a different shampoo a couple of times a week, but definitely Head & Shoulders for the most part. The whole "oily scalp training" is ridiculous. As I have said before, if this were true, people with an oily face could not wash their face daily and lessen their oil production. Absolutely not going to happen. Oil glands and their production have nothing to do with shampoo or soap.

Okay … brass tacks - the microbiome on your scalp is imbalanced. Using medicated shampoos treats the symptoms. - stop and it will come back. Firstly, address your diet - secondly - brew some organic cinnamon - strain it (French press for coffee) put it in a spritzer and massage that into your scalp. People do this to kill mold and overgrowth on plant soil and it works. It’s 100 % natural and effective. Spritz at night and leave it in - it smells great and your dandruff will vanish.

About 30 years ago I remember my head was really itchy in class, I went to town scratching, a huge pile of flakes 3 times, the teacher thought it could be lice, I had a buzzed head, I had acne at that time. My dermatologist, tol me to wash my head with T/Gel

Yeah I asked a dermatologist about my dandruff and he told me to try T-Sal and then left the room without even examining my scalp! Well from my own research I have discovered that I have a dry sensative scalp plus I have allergies and get hives. So I am on my journey to finding a shampoo that doesn't give me hives or activate my asthma while helping my dey scalp.

Dr. Sam What do you recommend for a reg daily care shampoo & conditioner? I have really fine thin hair that is VERY oily, with itchy flaky scalp and I have pimples in my scalp! My daughter has really bad dandruff too but hers is WAY worse she digs SO bad to where it bleeds and her hair alwayss looks greasy even right after washing out of the shower she had thick hair. Ive tried everything with her n nothing seems to help. It may help the itching mildly but it comes back... and she was using nizrol and I started using it too! I have real bad KP on my arms & legs too!

Yes, this is absolutely a great video and it was very ELI5. I use Keralyt5 as a pre-shampoo and then Nizarol to finish up. Holy hell it has honestly helped. IMO those two in combination of each other would solve 95% of the problems out there

I've been on a meat-only diet for over 6 months. Dandruff is still there. Sorry but it's not that straight fwd. Maybe for candida in the gut this works, but on skin... Yes, cut sugar - it's one of the best things you can do for overall health. But it's not a silver bullet when it comes to treating dandruff :P

Now how does this work for ethnic hair? Because I tend to have patches in certain places. It’s not an all over scalp issue. But I have kinky, curly, type 4 low porosity hair. It takes a good week or two before my scalp becomes oily. My hair is categorically drier than other types and most shampoos are EXTREMELY drying and make my hair extremely difficult to manage on wash days. I do notice a large increase in the number of dry patches when I use oils on my scalp so I don’t use them.

I have seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp and face diagnosed by doctors. I have super oily skin. I'm so fed up with beauticians when I go to get my eyebrows waxed telling me I need to use more oil and moisturise more because they think it's the same as dry skin or psoriasis. Mine is caused by the opposite as these, it gets so much worse when I add more oil. When I wash my hair every other day with anti-dandruff shampoo that's the best for keeping it at bay

Also, if I don't wash my hair for 4 days it gets oily or I notice it always gets oily and build up yellowish oily sebum and white flakes after 4 days of post shampoo. Is this Sebhorroeic dermatitis?

Started this problem before pandemic hits. Tried cream first but did not work. So I went to different dermatologists, prescribed shampoos but just getting worse. Finally, had one dermatologist prescribed clobetasol scalp application, and after a week, seborrheic dermatitis all gone. So I used Head and Shoulders as shampoo, but after a month not putting the steriod I can see it's coming back. I just want to know if I will use again the clobetasol? Coz some doctors said to stop using it's not good for long term use.

I am not sure what I have but it started in just one spot on the nape of my neck in 2014 and now its the back of my head but not top. If I am working outside and put something around my hair the itching starts, from moisture/sweat. Sleeping and getting too warm also make the back of my hair itch. I also have natural curly hair so washing it everyday is something I cant do since I have to blow it dry then use a flat iron to straighten it. Since it could be yeast, could that be caused by too much sugar, or could medications for anxiety cause it or being under great stress. When mine began I was caring for my mother who had dementia, which led to panic and anxiety from stress thus the need for medication. I have been tempted to just cut all my hair off, look like a sheep and try to get rid of whatever this is, I am so tired of it!!!! I am looking for any advice anyone can offer.

Hello! Ehst if I don't have dandruff, but my scalp feels very tight and dry, s9met8mes several hours after washing my hair starts to feel itchy and burning, tingling and tight. I tried using Kerastase bain vital dermo capm shampoo for sensitive scalp and it actually didn't help but msde things worse. I am actually lost and not sure if I am doing something wrong, I would like to understand what could be the issue of my scalp and what shmpoo I should use that doesn't overwash. Also, my scalp feels dry byt my hair gets oily sexond day already, but again I have no dandruff no matter how mutch I scratch there is nothing there.

Yes, and not enough people talk about it. I suffered from chronic dandruff for over 10 years and is was so bad it was affecting my eyebrows, around my nose, and behind my ears. I tried various different remedies but they only treated the dandruff temporarily. I then bought a showerhead water filter (you can buy for like $30 on amazon) and noticed the difference immediately. The flakes slowly started to go away as my skin started to heal. The redness and inflammation on my face were gone. Both my skin and hair feel softer and firmer. Highly recommend for anyone suffering from any skin condition.
