Derby 148 winning trainer said Rich Strike was just waiting for an opportunity

There is a euphoric feeling that can't be denied at Mercury Equine Center this week.
The farm off of Russell Cave Road just north of Lexington is where Eric Reed trains Rich Strike, the 148th winner of the Kentucky Derby.

Oh my Dear God, Eric Reed's comment. For a moment the world forgot about Covid, war, about who hate's who. Yes sir, we had a wonderful day after this brilliant ride on this spirited, brave, beautiful horse, "Richie"won a very difficult race, the prominent Kentucky Derby. I love this horse and his entire team. The groom and his love for this animal. Oh my heart, I feel so good. Why am I crying?

Leon tenderly pulled the reins to the right and touched his right flank with the whip to bring him around Messier, who was tiring. That's why his head cocked for a few seconds.

He is! Seems to be wildly varying perspectives on the Thoroughbred's 'hot-blooded temperament' (RS sure didn't like being 'nannied' right after the race...needed to 'cool down' his way), but I think that's urban legend--promulgated by the Racing Industry--simply because they ALSO happen to be the world's fastest horse. Up-close-and-personal...maybe the most human-loving, and versatile, breed out there... One part 'Turk,' and two parts, 2 distinct Arabian lines... I wonder if it's because those 'horse cultures' lived cheek-by-jowl with their horses in the same dwellings. Similar to the Vikings and their horses (Icelandics) ... stellar horses (got to ride one once--so smooth). But Thoroughbreds get closer to being Pegasus than any other.

rich strike is still loved even though he did not win the belmont stakes. he will have other chances. he has fantastic genes. the father of rich strike is keen ice. the mother of rich strike is gold strike. his grandfathers are curlin and smart strike. all 4 were very good race horses. still cannot believe calumet farm put him in a $30,000 claiming race (his second race) as a 2 year old after finishing last the race prior (his first race). i am sure reed was following him since he was a baby. good for dixon junior, leon, reed and dawson. reed is the mastermind behind rich strike. he is surrounded by many solid people. it is good to hear that reed cares more about the health of a horse versus profit. rich strike is such a beautiful powerful horse. america needs this fairy tale story to continue and it will.

Of the 20 horses entered. I had him in my top 6 picks. But, I didn't know that he was running. Only after he crossed the finish line. I was not aware of him , running. Because I fail to see him on a race program for the KD. He had a nice Speed Rating ( 95) and he some bullet works in the morning at Churchill Downs in the last 4 weeks. And more importantly. He won his only race of his career at CD. I had a feeling that a long shot was going to win , this year. That's why my No. 1 pick was Tiz the Bomb( a 30 to one shot) He finished ahead of Rich Strike in a few races. Like I mentioned. I had no clue , this horse made the field.
