I personally experienced the scene mentioned in these verses when I was an unbeliever. Words are not enough to describe the horror of those mountainous waves and the weakness and helplessness of the people. At that moment, everyone on the ship has their own problems and no one cares about anyone else. Aside from the sounds of falling and breaking items inside the ship, complete dead silence prevails. And everyone secretly begs to be saved from the situation they are in, but they do not want to show their begging to anyone because of their shame. And indeed, once you land safely, you immediately forget everything that happened. Until Allah (swt) breaks your arrogance by putting you in trouble so that you can see His signs and teaches you to be humble the hard way. That's when you find yourself literally helpless and cornered in life, and you have to pick up the Quran and start reading it, hoping to find a way out of your troubles. And you read these verses for the first time in your life, you believe in Allah (swt) and thank Him (swt) for having mercy on you.

بارك الله فيك وتقبل منا ومنك

In the parable this evening, what touches my heart, what the sailor thinks and experiences when he sails in the sea, It's taking me to what Allah says to us ﴿أَیۡنَمَا تَكُونُوا۟ یُدۡرِككُّمُ ٱلۡمَوۡتُ وَلَوۡ كُنتُمۡ فِی بُرُوجࣲ مُّشَیَّدَةࣲ﴾ Wherever you may be, death will overtake you, even if you should be within towers of lofty construction. And the rest of example, good wind hits or the tough one, the explanation here in the rest of the Ayah ﴿وَإِن تُصِبۡهُمۡ حَسَنَةࣱ یَقُولُوا۟ هَـٰذِهِۦ مِنۡ عِندِ ٱللَّهِۖ وَإِن تُصِبۡهُمۡ سَیِّئَةࣱ یَقُولُوا۟ هَـٰذِهِۦ مِنۡ عِندِكَۚ قُلۡ كُلࣱّ مِّنۡ عِندِ ٱللَّهِۖ فَمَالِ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ لَا یَكَادُونَ یَفۡقَهُونَ حَدِیثࣰا ۝٧٨ مَّاۤ أَصَابَكَ مِنۡ حَسَنَةࣲ فَمِنَ ٱللَّهِۖ وَمَاۤ أَصَابَكَ مِن سَیِّئَةࣲ فَمِن نَّفۡسِكَۚ وَأَرۡسَلۡنَـٰكَ لِلنَّاسِ رَسُولࣰاۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱلله شَهِیدࣰا ۝٧٩﴾ [النساء ٧٨-٧٩] But if good comes to them, they say, "This is from Allah," and if evil befalls them, they say, "This is from you." Say, "All [things] are from Allah." So what is [the matter] with those people that they can hardly understand any statement? What comes to you of good is from Allah, but what comes to you of evil, [O man], is from yourself. And We have sent you, [O Muhammad], to the people as a messenger, and sufficient is Allah as Witness. ﴿قُلۡ كُلࣱّ مِّنۡ عِندِ ٱلله﴾ This part, It reminds me of what Allah says to us to hold back again to him ﴿ما أصابَ مِن مُصِيبَةٍ إلّا بِإذْنِ الله﴾ No disaster(calamity) strikes except by permission of Allah ﴿ومَن يُؤْمِن بِالله يَهْدِ قَلْبَهُ﴾ And whoever believes in Allah - He will guide his heart. ﴿والله بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمٌ﴾ And Allah is Knowing of all things. This reminds me about prophet Ibrahimﷺstory As an Ummah to follow up with his reaction, whatever come on his journey ﴿وإذِ ابْتَلى إبْراهِيمَ رَبُّهُ بِكَلِماتٍ فَأتَمَّهُنَّ قالَ إنِّي جاعِلُكَ لِلنّاسِ إمامًا قالَ ومِن ذُرِّيَّتِي قالَ لا يَنالُ عَهْدِيَ الظّالِمِينَ﴾ And [mention, O Muhammad], when Abraham was tried by his Lord with commands and he fulfilled them. [Allah] said, "Indeed, I will make you a leader for the people." [Abraham] said, "And of my descendants?" [Allah] said, "My covenant does not include the wrongdoers." And lead him to the only conclusion and the core of all what disturbance us ﴿إذْ قالَ لَهُ رَبُّهُ أسْلِمْ قالَ أسْلَمْتُ لِرَبِّ العالَمِينَ﴾ ﴿وأوْصى بِها إبْراهِيمُ بَنِيهِ ويَعْقُوبُ يا بَنِيَّ إنَّ الله اصْطَفى لَكُمُ الدِّينَ فَلا تَمُوتُنَّ إلّا وأنْتُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ﴾ When his Lord said to him, "Submit," he said, "I have submitted [in Islam] to the Lord of the worlds." And Abraham instructed his sons [to do the same] and [so did] Jacob, [saying], "O my sons, indeed Allah has chosen for you this religion, so do not die except while you are Muslims." May Allah make us truly submit on to him and sincerely back only to him, and accept us and make our deeds purify

True faith then we let it go fall That’s HAWA to fall off from the true remembrance of Allah May Allah allow us to hold onto HIM in calamity and also in good times like we have no one to go to aameen

This reminds me of a very disturbing time when my ex mother in law narrated how there was serious turbulence on her flight she recently took. everyone started praying but she said she didn’t feel the need to pray because she hasn’t done anything wrong snd she already qualifies for jannah. For context she was extremely abusive and book definition of overt narcissism. What kind of a fitrah she had to not even be able to feel anything in the face of death, and to self proclaim jannah. Astaghfirullah.
