I have worked in several dental offices as a dental hygienist for the last 30 years. I have seen lots of inadequate dental work. But dentists NEVER, EVER tell the patients the truth. They prefer to protect the dental community instead of protecting the patient. I would like to ask these 2 dental surgeons how many times have they reported low quality dental work from their colleagues. I bet they have never done it. Even here in this video, they are biting their tongues before saying too much. One of these doctors said that he doesn't want to throw anyone under the bus. Dental boards are control by dentists. If the dentists do not throw anybody under the bus, who would?

My dentist argued with his nurse that dropped a tool and he wanted her to use it.. she said no!! He had no idea I was in medical too and that was a no no! So I know what you mean!!

I've had more than a few dentists insist that I need unnecessary procedures . I always make sure to quietly ask the hygienist if everything is good and what do u need, before the dentist comes in.

@@36skittle Thank you for your comment. That is a helpful advice for our readers. I thing most people do not know, though, that hygienists are not allowed to diagnose. I had had, in the past, problems with dentists and managers, for giving my treatment opinion to patients. Some dentists have even order me not to talk to patients about their mouths at all. "Just do the cleaning" . I have bad news for you. I have worked in dental offices for 30 years. There are more dishonest dentists than honest ones. Let me give you an advice: Ask the hygienists where they take their family members for dental treatment.

Even after the completion of 6 additional years following dental school, training in a top tier university, performing hundreds of surgeries, becoming board certified (consisting of both written and oral exams), and practicing for nearly 20 years, I am STILL learning, still CONTINUE improving techniques, NEVER use non-proprietary components or materials, and I have never felt like a “master implantologist.” I see billboards and ads making claims of superiority when knowing firsthand the level of inexperience and training. Referrals related to failed, disaster cases that have left people totally toothless, infected, chronic pain, accelerates bone loss, not to mention the massive financial losses, have increased rapidly over the past few years. In many instances, few if any options remain because of the devastating and irreversible consequences. I, and my colleagues, have made formal complaints to the state licensing board and the dental board. Sadly and consistently, I’m told they will try and “look into it” but they are utterly overwhelmed with issues. I’ve been told the lion share of cases investigated deal with providers caught using their own drug supplies, mainly opioids. SO, I and others have NO problem reporting (and I don’t consider it “throwing someone under the bus” when they are taking advantage, preying upon, and in many cases, destroying lives) those who commit malpractice but like most government agencies, the complaints do NOTHING and as a result, NOTHING seems to change.

Thank you for saying: listening to the patient is important. I had 2 implants placed 6 years ago and immediately felt something was not right. I went back to the surgeon (and other specialists) multiple times and was told everything looked good. I believed them and I gave up. I also believe that those in the dental field protect each other. Now, 6 years later, I have a mess and expense I am currently going through. Two failed implants, extreme bone loss and multiple surgeries, 6 unit bridge. I am watching this crying because I didn't fight for myself.

so sad...I'm sorry. You should demand that they make it right. I have an implant that I think is failing. I see the specialist in 2 weeks. I don't think the crown was placed right by my dentist and I'm not paying for a redo...I will tell her that. With my last visit, she was trying to say that my gum was inflamed...well, it wasn't inflamed right before she placed the crown and I've been taking care of my gums and teeth. I don't smoke or drink. SMH

It’s not just due to lack of training. People need to see the news report in its entirety. It’s the metals used that some people have reactions to. They aren’t 100% titanium. Tests also showed small filaments of metals on the implants after manufacturing. There’s also risk of constant infections. The best dentist in the world with all the training and experience to fit them properly does not rule out all the other risks, which usually start with the product before it enters a persons body.

I have 7 years with misguided health problems. 5 years treated with drugs n I needed a cpap. 3 days later I was 100% better. gulbladder taken out. big mistake So many times I have lost years of my life cause they think we're nuts

With what you guys are saying I totally changed my mind about getting implants! To go into debt to get them and have problems with them all the time is just not worth it! Terrible odds!

I have mine. Full upper and lowers with no problems. Just do your research and be sure you choose a good clinic that cares and knows what they are doing like I did. But with that said surgery is never guaranteed to be 100% successful. The human body is very complex and things can go wrong. This is why I put off surgery on my lower spine because there is no guarantee it will work. I will only get the surgery done when I don't have a choice.

I've been a dental Lab Tech for over 45yrs. I've been doing implant retained dentures from the very beginning with introduction of staple implants and hader-bars. One of my dentist was interested in starting to implement implant retained dentures into his practice. He invited me to attend a seminar to learn the whole process. He was very well respected for the quality of his work and success and happiness of his patients. Drs should be required to attend classes to be certified in order to do implants. Oral surgeons are responsible for building the foundation to which the dentist and lab tech are to build the denture upon. If he fails no amount of effort will correct it to provide an optimal result for the patient. Knowledge and training is overlooked when money is involved.

Since you're a lab tech, I'd like to ask you a question, if you will. I had several implants 2 years ago. My dentist says the lab didn't make the crowns correctly so I needed another scan. Well, so far I've had 3 scans. Between scans it has taken 3-4 MONTHS for the lab to produce crowns which never seem to work. Is it at all possible that a lab can take so long to make crowns? It's been 2 years and no crowns? It's starting to sound very suspicious to me. Why would anyone continue to use a lab that takes so long to produce and then produce a substandard product? What are your thoughts?

Had one dental implant, a lower molar, done over 25 years ago now, but by a highly skilled orthodontist, and it's still holding up perfect to this very day, never one problem at all with it!

You must have maintained oral hygiene very well. Normally dental implants may last 10-20yr, but if maintained well can last longer. Just like driving a car you may need regular maintenance 😊

As a CDA I witnessed this all the time, so many people with failed implants. There was never a big plan, it was aweful. I'm retired now and I find your honesty extremely refreshing.

the problem greed and dishonesty, way over priced, not affordable and when there is problems/mistakes no one takes responsibility for it!!!

As a dental student who previously worked for oral surgeons, periodontists, and general dentists who placed implants... I think the issue is a lack of regulation. In dental school, there is almost zero training on implant placement and NO dental grad is ready to place implants right out of dental school without a surgical residency (oral surgery or periodontics). The fact that a new grad is able to place an implant the day after graduation without ever holding an implant before is absolutely insane. SPECIALISTS oftentimes are the ones doing a great job, while general dentists are here experimenting on patients. A doctor's first implant should not be placed in his office without oversight, but should be placed in school/residency. From my POV as a student learning dentistry, that is the biggest issue. I have seen general dentists have a 20% failure rate because they don't know what they are doing, and I have seen proper surgeons who place 3,000 a year with less than a dozen failing who then study the hell out of those failures to understand WHY

I've been to DDSes and I'm still not impressed with the dental industry. I doubt I'll go back to a dentist, ever.

I'm appalled at the complete lack of accountability across the whole field of dentistry. I'm sure there a great dentists out there but unfortunately I have run into 2 who shouldn't be allowed to practice even basic dentistry. Only due to slight leaks in my molars when I was very a very young child, I had to have small fillings in all my back teeth. Fast forward to 12 years ago, I went to have a small cavity filled in a front tooth. The dentist was keen to replace all my other fillings with composites. A bit of slight of hand by the administrative staff had them covered by my insurance and I spent over a week feeling so sick. Only after did I educate myself and learn that amalgam fillings should be removed in a well ventilated room, with a dental dam.... where I was in a windowless, unventilated room with no dam. After 1 year I ended up with 13 cavities and had to have 2 teeth pulled, a root canal and several fillings. Only then did I notice that any composite material was cured multiple times during the process, as the filling was built up. All the fillings the previous fillings were "packed" and only then we're they cured once. When I moved I switched to a different dental clinic and had work done over the past 3 years. Amalgams had shrunk, loosened and resulted in cavities but I began to notice dark shadows at the gumline. After my last filling I asked if I could have an x-ray. I'd had a single implant this year and was generally concerned about further decay/ complications). The result- all the teeth this dentist had worked on were decayed below the gumline and will have to be extracted. Leaving no back teeth at all!!! That I was able to spot an issue with no training. While this dentist was filling one of these rotten teeth, he completely missed this during the examinations. In fact I'd been in for work several times in the past 3 years, some recently yet not once did he pick up on any problems So now he's telling me I'll need all replaced with implants as dentures won't be appropriate for a mouth condition I have had for 3 years called Lichen Planus. It will never happen. I've no ability to pay the huge cost of top and bottom implants to replace all these teeth. I know I'm not alone, being only one among many who took great care of their teeth, and through lack of experience and bad judgment will be losing all my back teeth. It's soul destroying. Already find it a huge challenge to eat with severe Lichen Planus but add to that, no back teeth. Not to mention what this will do to my appearance and overall health, bone loss, lack of support for my front teeth. I once had a loving smile and feel totally robbed of that through no fault of my own. Dentistry is such a profit minded business I have no silly thought of some dentist taking pity on me enough to want to help me!

I went dentist with emergency infected tooth, he treated the wrong one. After I went another dentist he discover the infectioned tooth still there. The dumb dentist didn't know read X ray. Don't go to chain company that rent room, buy second hands equipment in Ebay, hire student to train you mouth.

Licen planus…did it come from trauma to the gums…may I suggest you have a very serious look at Dr. Berg on KZread. He has a lot of info on Auto immune disorders. The body is amazing give it what it needs and it will heal itself. ❤

Sorry you've been thru so much. Don''t give up on needed implants. A friend of ours needed major work he couldn't afford and went to a dental school. These were front top teeth some molars. He paid like $400.00 for all the work they did. Hoping the best for you.

I had a root canal on a lower back molar. The Guta percha material that fills the canal was protruding out the end of the root. Which I didn’t know for a year and a half. Two weeks after that molar was root canaled a second time I began having debilitating migraine 3 to 5 times a week and they were medication resistant. Meaning my medication wasn’t working on the migraines. I also had not had any migraine since I was a teenager and had braces. So I finally went and had it pulled and that’s when they saw the guta percha sticking out too far hitting a major nerve. The trigeminal nerve! So yes dental work can make you sick, very sick and you never know what it may be.

I am suffering from trigeminal nerve on one side of my face. And I have root canal treatment on upper tooth number 4.. the pain is quite strong, it started 6 years ago, the tooth was done years before. I probably need to pull it out and pray for less nerve pain. What if this helps..would be magical

I just went through almost 2 years, here in North Texas, of "dentists" that couldn't get 1 implant really right...over $10,000.000...there is no real oversight when it comes to dentists...Smiles Generation...what a joke...they can always find ways to justify their incompetence...I refuse to call them "doctors"

I got a 1 molar implant in the early 90s. Done by an oral surgeon. It was a gruesome procedure. I moved to another state a few years later, and my new dentist showed me it was loose, so I went to a prosthodontist and it was in at an angle, caused by the surgeon running the drill too hot, which made it slip. It got too loose, so I had it removed, which is a really awful surgery, as the bone grows around it. Frightening pain after. I got an expensive bridge, which outlasted my other teeth and now have dentures. I can't eat with them, but I get by. Everyone tries to sell me implants, esp general dentists. But never, ever again. Plus I can't afford them. That one implant cost me $10,000 in 1991 money, plus the previous root canal and crowns, an apecoectomy (?) surgery deep in the bone to try to cure the intractable pain, and finally extraction, then implant, then removal, 3 span bridge, dentures. I bet I spent $30,000 on that *one* tooth (80s/90s $). It's a crime that dental insurance is so bad. Dentures were my cheapest option, esp now being disabled, so I had to give up chewing with teeth, because of the root canal/crown or bridge expense, and 'mystery' pain. I have friends and family going through the same issues, esp if disabled and/or have difficult finances. Dental work for seniors is out of the reach of many, unless you retired with more than a simple pension, and didn't lose it during the various financial crises.

You are so right about dental insurance being so bad to the point it should be a crime. My dental insurance is $1,500 a year and it's split up and applied to every procedure so its like not having insurance, I still have to pay way over 50% of all the costs out of pocket.

I’ve had one implant at 68 years old, by an oral surgeon at the dental school in Louiville. It’s perfect. No trouble and was also check by many surgeons at the school before being released. It was a year of being checked periodically. Honestly I did not know that unqualified dentists were able to perform oral surgery. My periodontist does everything possible to save teeth but my front tooth was knocked out.

It's so good to hear these two gentlemen feel genuine concern for the lady with the awful oral problems their heartfelt empathy is clear perhaps this lady could be assisted financially by taking her pain and suffering into account maybe a basic fee to restore her mouth as 1 said she's in her golden years and needs to be treated so respectively God bless her I pray some implantologist will help

The dental implant business is very profitable. Dentists get angry with their patients when the patient complains about issues related to the procedures. Dentists like to blame the patient for implants failing. That happened to me and that is why I haven't continued treatment because of all the money I spent already. That dentist didn't mind because he's still taking money from people and taking advantage of people, who are just to smile and eat solid foods for a change. Thanks for sharing this video.

BTW. It was not implant. But as I child I broke two front teeth. He made caps and messed up. They looked terrible and caused ALL other teeth to be misaligned. And constantly infected. Then gum and bone issues. An abcess that went into my sinus cavities required emergency surgery. Oh like it was my fault. Hell no. That was over 50 years ago. Various dentists. They could never fix it. Never refered me to a specialist. This is a medical issues NOT cosmetic!!!

I'm a 67 year old with multiple broken off teeth due to radiation damage. I'm in pain 24/7, and I can not eat any foods other than soft without screaming in pain. I have no dental insurance. I want more than anything thing to be able to eat, smile, and just be normal again. What hope do I have to make that dream come true?

I'm about to be 70, and getting my 3rd individual implant. When I looked at the cost of a root canal and crown, VS implant and crown... the cost was about the same. Given my positive experience with the previous 2 implants, I opted for another. All work has been with an Oral Surgeon and I've been more than satisfied with the results. The only "complaint" I've got is the length of time from extraction to crown.. about 9 months.. but they are worth it. I've heard pricing horror stories, but shop around.

"inexperience on the operators part" is a very polite way of saying "just because you have a license to do so does not mean you should"

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge to freely. You are helping so many of us. I'm planning on switching providers for my implant to someone who listens instead of allowing her staff to provide all the information. I've gotten more from these videos than from the surgeon.

Wow you guys are awesome.. The absolute raw truth right here.. I was a treatment coordinator for many years for a dentist.. Keep on stating your truths.. Seriously some need thrown under the bus to protect these patients!!!!!

I am about to receive my first denture. I hadn’t done much research before I went. All I thought was implants are out of my price range so I opted for and have been measured for regular metal hook and acrylic partials. I started looking at the videos on dental care denture work and promotions. Really, the denture industry seems to be more about shaming patients for choosing “traditional” dentures over the implants. And the push for them. And then when folks start indicating that they are a really costly and ongoing costly appliance!

I enjoy watching your vidoes, I'm in the process of getting upper implant supported dentures I've gained lots of imformation from your videos on the procedure. THANKS!

As someone who went to Clearchoice to have the all in 4 procedure done when I was 27 there’s no chance in hell I’d ever goto a normal dentist to do anything to my mouth or implants. It’s not as simple and drilling and placing a screw. If you want implants ESPECIALLY full bridge uppers and lowers fixed or removable take your ass to a legit place that specializes in that. Full 3D skull scans, in depth moulding being done, etc. Like these guys said, if they are not talking about the end point get up and walk out. It’s called the backwards planning process, start with an endpoint and work backwards in the steps to where you are now and come up with a plan of action. They should be able to do every single step in the process and discuss in detail all the steps. 4 implants evenly spaced on top and bottom; clearchoice does angled rear implants as opposed to vertical and vertical for the 2 in the middle for both upper and lower but I think either method is fine. For Christ’s sake do your due diligence in who you get to do it because if it’s done wrong that’s tens of thousands and a shit load of pain and misery. When I got mine done it’s sucked ass for about a week but it’s been solid for 13 years now. Might have to go get new upper and lower dentures but frankly it’s like going in for an oil change. If you want permanent dentures and not removable make damn sure they leave a large enough space to clean the implants and done rest the prosthetic on the gums. I had to get mine changed because I started having problems but once they altered it it was fine no issues

All on x has inherent flaws as well and the pendulum is starting to swing towards doing more single implant and implant bridges. For all on x they have to amputate a good portion of your maxillary or mandibular bone to get enough clearance for the FP-3 prosthesis. Inherently this bothers me as we were always taught to preserve bone.

@@budenifyyep, they do indeed have to do that. They basically grind your lower jaw bone down to make it an even surface. I didn’t say it was perfect though, I just said I’ve been good to go. In 20 more years? Probably not. But I would expect to have numerous issues any way I went tbh.

A badly done root canal gave me MS……thousands have had the same experience…..the guy who was the head of the US root canal association is now the biggest anti root canal guy. Dr Peter Francis, aUK specialist who has treated more than 10000 MS patients said….45 percent of those cases were due to DENTAL PROBLEMS

Everyone should go to a well known implant specialist. It may cost you more, but it is way less costly in the long run

I'm glad you mentioned allergy to the metal. I have a metal plate in my arm and would get swelling on and off where that plate was located. I always wondered about it. Over time it finally stopped doing it, but it was up to 15 yrs after that it finally stopped.

Just a terrific informative 35 minutes. when I found this video I thought I would do 15 minutes at a time but I could not stop watching in one session. I am saving up for implants that will support a bridge. I am a patient at a paradontal school . TY you so much for setting me up for success, with this; I figured out the questions I want to ask.

Thanks for a very informative, honest, knowledgeable response to implant success and failures video. Please respond to osteoporosis issues for the success/ failure of implants (especially mandibular implants).

My dentist who happens to specialized in implants and had lots of training and had done 3 implants in my maxillary jaw did me the favor by referring me to a periodontist because mandibular implants are more complicated because of the mental nerve so after doing a CBCT scan, the periodontist told me that he doesn't want to put 21 & 20 together because tooth 20 would be to close to the nerve so we did an implant on 21 & 19 and was made an implant supported bridge with a pontic. The only thing that annoying is having to clean under the pontic.

My advice. Go to a reputable board certified oral surgeon for implants. Period. In my opinion a dentist should not be doing these.

I have an implant and after 10 years of pain I found out that my blue tooth headphones were interacting with it and basically cooking my jaw. Severe pain all the time and dentist and oral surgeon had no idea that this could even happen.

What upsets me is HOW to KNOW that you’ve chosen the right dentist. I had a terrible dentist and ALL reviews on the internet for him are 5 star reviews in several different places. I can’t eat normal food either, but I have no idea how to find a dentist I can trust to do the job right. According to statistics, my life could be shortened by 10 years.

yes, this very difficult. I like to listen to other folks recommendations. I don't trust the net reviews....I also need to "like" the dentist that I go to. Very first dentist we went to was proficient but wasn't detailed enough to suit us. Then we tried another and didn't like him either. then tried another one and have found "her" perfect fit for both my wife and I. Had 3 dentists here in the US, they over charged us... have had 3 in mexico, none of them over charged us... give Alberta Dental a try, I really like their professionalism.

The conclusion is: look at board certified, Follow word of mouth dentist and ask follow up question to that person on why they recommend that dentist. Ask what type of procedures have they had from the dentist. Look only at negative reviews online that will relate to the treatments you’ll need and/or will relate to you financially. Schedule consultation with different dentist and ask very specific questions. Look for transparency, able to perform a good job the first time, no up selling, no dismissive behavior.

Implant training here in the UK is rigorous and long. I can't understand what's going on in the states with this. Any British dentist doing work this bad would quickly find himself in court. And not on civil charges either.

I was unlucky and had my teeth messed up in UK. The dentist was still in practice despite a pending court case. He took our money and disappeared to South Africa before his case. His work standard was abysmal and one poor guy was left mid treatment. I went to Turkey for remedial work by a great skilled man who described my mouth as a catastrophe. He cannot be found now so cannot be sued! He was a Dr Shah, a crook!

Mine failed after 4 months would not take….never again and mine was done by a oral surgeon and infection occurred I heard high failure rates… it is a brutal procedure DONT DO IT

I have just had an all on 4 on my upper. My doctor explained right from the start he would need to evaluate if I would be a candidate for this. After a health screening he then discussed the whole process which I went on to have. He wanted to see me every 2 weeks after surgery for 2 months and I had my finals placed after 4 months. The whole process was painless and trouble free. It has changed my standard of living and I will be for ever grateful. My words of wisdom would be, do your homework and avoid the lower cost options you see out there.

I had two implants (front upper) about 20 or so years ago. Both failed, and came out with bone attached. While they were in, I felt majorly ill, like my body was rejecting them. I know that titanium is supposed to be impervious to that, but it happened. Ironically, when they came out, I instantly felt better. Unfortunately, it's messed up my dental health in many ways ever since.

@@DefendHumanity Done in the suburbs of Chicago. Doc sent me to a great prosthodontist who put in a six tooth long Maryland bridge. That was good until quite recently. It's actually heading back in the right direction now. Also I didn't mean to imply that the failure was due to titanium rejection. They probably just weren't put in right. Mine were also in the front and those are trickier.

@@mirrormirror444the guy that did my implants felt pretty bad about it and recommended another prosthodontist who's very well-known and really excellent. He recently retired but this is decades ago and I got a Maryland bridge that spanned six teeth. That was the fix. Today I still have half of that Maryland bridge and a floating tooth and have lost a couple more teeth since then for unrelated reasons. Actually have a decent setup as long as the rest of my teeth can hold out for a little longer. Most people won't have access to someone who can do a Maryland bridge that spans six teeth however, although that was 25 years ago now. I think for most people now in plants are pretty safe but just to go with someone who has a really good track record and has been doing it a long time. The key is having something really solid to base that implant in so I'd be leery of any implants in the front.

Thank you for this video very help full. We all need to be held accountable , not to speak out against bad work only makes all dentists look bad and greedy. You all end up being painted with the same brush, the good lumped in with the bad. So defend your honor and reputation and do not feel bad for hurting the feelings of the ones who did not do the work and only wanted the rewards based on your work and reputation.

I am really sorry for what that lady is dealing with. I am a firm believer in knowing your doctor's credentials. It does matter. Always do your homework.

I have four dental implants in my mouth. My local Oral Surgeon, along with my dentist certified in dental implants worked together and I'm totally happy without any problems. I had numerous follow-up appointments and x-rays to make sure everything was working for me. One year later I'm still overjoyed with my new implants.

I got an implant a couple years ago and had a great result. My dentist sent me to a practice that does nothing but dental implants and prosthetic procedures. I am planning to have another one this year. SEE A SPECIALIST !!

My Implant journey was great . The screws were surgically implanted In my mouth and a healing cap was placed . No screws were ever exposed . I’m 77 and In great shape medically.

Once the money is gone, who will repair the damage done to me? Not the office who did it! Paid cash! I have a jar full of teeth and implant material that has come out of my mouth. I took many trips to his office for repairs since month one. It's been several years and I am disfigured, in pain and disgusted!!! Bone health? Forget it. Any confidence in how to find a responsible dentist is out the window.The name of the person who did this to me is Harold Wayne Brueggen.

So sad to hear that. I visited a lot of doctors. Most of them want to install an expensive implant, and only one of them told me I have no bone to do it and I need to try to save my teeth. It were my cheapest and wisest decision.

Thank you both! I have more insight and information to work with now. I have not had any implants or bridges as yet, but definitely need some work done. Sorta like trying to have an auto mechanic you can trust, but you should have a grasp of basic mechanics.

I am considering implants. This is great information for patients. I know now a few questions to ask and make sure the dentist guarantees the work.

This has been interesting to see. I just had 2 implants in my lower jaw,+ bone grafts and work with an oral surgeon/periodontist and a dentist. I was terrified for years of finding the right team. I asked all kinds of people for recommendations then researched the names and picked them/committed. 2 implants 1 month later, they look really good on xray. The healing is below the gumline still (September will add abutments) and the bottom denture has been adjusted 5x so far but improving with each one. Today's realignment allowed me to eat with the denture and no adhesive for the bottom plate. Grateful for an experienced team and excellent oral surgeon. Too many fly by night guys in Florida offering implants from a dentist. The cost for cash was around 12k for all of it, denture too.

My dentist used a 3D scan and had done my husbands a few weeks prior with no issues. Mine immediately caused pain. The dentist took x-rays and said it looked fine. I told him I was suffering. In week 2 he finally gave me pain meds and then just after I finished the antibiotics I got an infection and had to do a 2nd round of antibiotics. After week 4 he finally said it was failing and pulled it out. He said maybe 2% fail the first time and that I should try again. I told him that was too horrifying to subject myself to that again. He did give me all my money back. I'll be getting a bridge with a different dentist.

I’m so grateful I ran into your videos I’m diabetic and a smoker and the dentist I seen for the first time to get implants the dentist never mentioned any risks to me . I told him my A1C level is 8.3 and he had no concerns. He treated the situation as if I was just going to get a cleaning. He walked in looked at the X-ray and said 4 implants he’ll do gave me a price and that’s it. Spoke with me for like 4 minutes. 2 implants in the front and 2 in the back. Psh .

It is nice to plan ahead, but... My teeth were hollowed out for amalgam fillings ~50 years ago, and it has been downhill since then. I have been implanting teeth as they fail, and now have 6 implants. In one case, a 2nd molar implant was placed too close to my 1st molar by a periodontist, so tissue never properly regrew between them. Months later, the 1st molar was rotted out, so I had to also implant the 1st molar right next to the 2nd molar implant. I have another 1st next to a 2nd molar due to an infection that killed all three of those molars. Some implants hurt - not a lot, just ache a bit when I bite down on them. Of course my ultimate "final destination" will be a grave, but it would sure be nice to have SOME sort of long-term plan until I get there. A bridge is a bridge and they all obey the same design constraints, regardless of whether they carry trucks to teeth. So far, I have yet to meet a single dentist who has ANY mechanical engineering education - not one single hour. Steve

The dental board run by dentists will protect even the worst dentists. I lost my teeth due to constant complications from one dentists in TX. He destroyed my teeth and I’ve had to get all removed. Now healing and waiting to decide what to do next. But there is nothing I can do but file a complaint that goes unanswered nor can I get any money back or compensation. The dental field is a very very dark and shady field. I’m speaking of general dentists.

I'm in the same boat I need replace two teeth. Here in Wisconsin there everywhere too. Starting to lean toward living with out them. I don't mind spending the money even know the cost is completely ridiculous but what's the point if it doesn't work. Basically flip a coin that's your odds.

I just had full upper and lower 3 on 6 done and not quite finished yet. A robot did the 3D designed and did the operation, bone grafts and sinus lift all at once. 6 months have passed and 2 sets of temporary teeth have been put in, the Dentist wants to make sure everything was perfect before they made the zirconia finals. My gums have gotten thinner than they expected. So far no problems except for taking a little longer but I would rather have it done right then quickly.

My general dentist replaced my bad tooth with a dental implant on the upper back jaw. The first one was too small so he replaced it but could not find the original one. He just put the second one in anyway. I was having sinus pain and facial pain and went to see an ENT. Had a ct scan and found the implant way up in the sinus cavity sitting just below my eye socket. The Dr couldn't believe it. I had surgery and the implant was removed. I told my dentist about the surgery and he didn't seem too concerned about the work that he had done. In my opinion it was totally his fault. No more implants for me. I still go to this office but see another dentist.

I couldn'tagree more. I spent most of my career as a dentist working for a nationally-known DSO. In 2014, they decided that every dentist should be placing dental implants. While they did provide very high-quality training, their business model was production-driven and standard protocol was to place implants on the fly with very little case preparation. One dentist who worked for the organization was highly-praised for the revenue that she generated placing implants said in a meeting, "if you are going to place implants, you have to be prepared for 40% of them to fail." That was when I decided to retire from dentistry. My question is, would you want your family member to be treated this way?

I left Dentistry in 2002 all because of incompetent Dentist's not aligning implants correctly causing the implants to be torn out of the jaw due to the forces involved. On top of that the Dentist's would try and blame the Technicians rather than face their own mistakes and learn from them. Many Dentist's in the UK should not even be allowed near patients because their whole ethos is make big money and stuff the patients. Private Dentistry should never have been allowed here in the UK as greed has too much to answer for.

40% that is absolutely frightening. My is 76 and has 5 individual implants. She didn't want partial. Makes me nervous wreck.

They say the 98 % success rate is accurate "as long as you know what you're doing", but the entire point made in this video is that a lot of dentists don't know what they're doing. Everything has a higher success rate if you only include the best case scenarios and ignore everything else. --edit-- Although I pointed that out, overall thank you for such an informative video. Both my mom and I are in need of major dental work. My mom is going to have to have all her teeth removed and is low income so our options are limited and I am a breast cancer survivor who had radiation recently and I'm not sure how much work I'll need (though I think I'll lose a few teeth and I already have bone loss). It all just seems so overwhelming.

You are so right. Failure to listen to the patient is probably the biggest issue that I have had during my all on four procedure. What should have been 4-6 months is now going on a year. I am supposed to get my finals on 7/24 but I am really discouraged and not too excited because I am afraid that what was important to me, is probably going to be completely lost in this process. 11 1/2 months and $60,000 dollars later I am not going to except anything less than what I was expecting and discussed in the beginning. The temporary has broken 3 times. The first time they just left off the rear portion of the right side of the temporary. Wondering if this has anything to do with them not getting the bite right. When I say, "It's not touching when I close my mouth and try to bite down". And he says "Yes it is". I say NO, it's not" Why would I even say that, if it is not true. I have a speech impediment now that I never had before. I can't say my "S"s G's or J's. With the final product, I am hoping there is not so much of the pink material behind the teeth. I have a small mouth and there is no room for my tongue. I am not medically compromised, I do however feel like the oral surgeon I went to for implant placement was always in a hurry. It was like going through a drive through with him. The day he placed the implants there was an office party and he was in a hurry. Immediately I felt pain in one of the upper implants, but I thought that was part of the healing process. No it wasn't. They took it out and I had to wait and let that heal and then re-placed the implant and let that heal as well. I am wondering if I am expecting too much to expect a correct bite, not too much gum material behind the teeth, esthetically pleasing to look at. Is that too much? This is not a loaded question, just in general. Oh, by the way, I paid more to get the Zirconia finals which I didn't realize they were going to use the Acrylic. Thank God I saw your Video on the "Bait and Switch". Anyway Thanks for listening , hopefully you will let me know if I am asking too much. Thank you, DC

I'm looking at having all on 4 done soon. I have my consultation with a very reputable prosthodontist/dentist in Nashville TN (Dr. Park) and I'm having SO many worries. Because I'm a researcher by nature...I've looked at both the good and the bad....and of course, I came across that Arizona story. I'm only JUST 40 (last month) and I've had problems my entire life due to "soft teeth" that only got worse after my pregnancy. I don't want to have problems with the implants also...(I also have a metal allergy...but not titanium) so I've had a ton of anxiety over all of this. Thank you for this video! It really helped ease my mind, and it has also given me some ideas on questions I'm going to ask and my consultation, before committing to a treatment plan. Thank you, thank you!

I feel sick all the time. My old dentist said I have infection under all my roots that are left from my tooth that came off. The majority of the teeth I lost came out in one piece. 😢 As I said in another comment. I'm disabled, one day I had a horrific tooth ache, so I had to have one tooth pulled and there was a root left from the tooth next too it that came out in one whole piece. My dentist took an exray and said I have infection under all my roots all over my mouth, because my teeth had been dying from the inside out. He said this is making my one autoimmune disease worse.. I have a sphenoid Cyst in my left nostril that has to be removed and it requires 2 teeth pulled out, but since those 2 tooth have fallen out leaving only the root that's all they would have to do is remove the roots and pull the cyst out. I only have 7 teeth left in my mouth and have 12 roots left from my molars. My last 2 teeth on top are starting to wear away and I'm scared to death that when they fall out I will really fall apart. I'll be left with 6 bottom teeth in the front. I had a failed septoplasty and back in 2009 I had thr surgery later in 2009 my neck blew and I had to have major neck surgery. My ENT told me I can't have regular dentures because my soft palate collapsed and if I try to swallow food I could choke. You cannot see the back of my throat at all. 😢😢 I wish I could find a dentist to do the 4 in 1 or 6 in 1 implants. I'm on a very small disability check and can't afford to pay for implants. I got healthy smiles that could pull the 12 roots with no teeth, but than I'm stuck still with no teeth. 😭 😭. The government doesn't understand how having a healthy mouth affects your whole body. My disabilities are 100% worse, because of all the infection under the roots that are left in my mouth. 😔 😔 😢😢😭 😭

@@nancyk5203 im still getting zirconias. The latest CleanImplant awards for zirconias are Swiss Dental solutions's 1 piece SDS1.2, Champion BioWin!, and Bredent WhiteSKY - all rated clean. I think SDS is the most famous of the three, and thus more dentists would have the tools to handle it so I'm probably going SDS, if availabe in the US. If not, I'll have it done in back home Bulgaria, where it would be about $2000 per tooth - so much cheaper than US. I'm also getting the implants with Platelet Rich Fibrin

I had implants put on my upper gums, and had a denture made, an over denture. Several months went by when they started to become loose and eventually fell out. Thank god I can still wear the dentures with adhesive.

Thanks for your insights. You passed over the portion of the investigation at 06:00 that talks about infection/contamination/materials used in the implants. Any thoughts on the devices themselves and their alloys that could cause complications?

I had top and bottom implants placed. I told the dentist that I had a hard time talking and breathing. I told them they were too big for my mouth. I thought it was just an adjustment period. What I didn't know was the string that I thought was a sucher was really from the implant thank you so much for telling me this was part of the Implant. I had no idea. the bottom healed but the bottom was what really bothered me. My tongue didn't have enough room and they made the implants with my bottom teeth at a slight angle. I went in to begin with because my bottom teeth were pushing my top. After my appointment and them ignoring the fact that they were too big, that I couldn't speak well, and trouble breathing I got an infection in my gum on the right side of my nose and I swelled up. I took antibiotics with Vitamin C. After that I had pain and could no longer bite with the top. Then eventually the top started to move. It was another month before the Dentist even looked at them and two appointments later did ex-rays and scanned my mouth. then they waited two more weeks and removed all six implants on the top, Now I know the failure was from the strings falling out. they removed both levels and gave me a 3d bottom fixed denture and a 3d top removable denture. The 3d bottom is horrible looking but it is temporary. and the top is working but I hate the glue. My questions are 1. Do you think losing the strings was the cause of the infection then the failure? I would wake up clenching my uppers and wasn't given a retainer to use. 2. Could this have helped save some of the implants from failure? Also, anyone who has the implants should have a waterpik. I used it every day I am going back in February for a new surgery. I am scared that it won't work. I really need your input. Thank you in advance. Just an FYI I live in the Bay Area. My surgery was 42k. A friend of mine lives in San Jose a 20-minute drive and she paid 70K plus her cleanings are 1.000. she said she had been in constant pain. My cleanings are supposed to be 200. At this point, they know better than to charge me anything.

If implants fail you don't get your Big money back! Not to mention all the pain. And still wind up wearing dentures.

I had oral surgery malpractice 6 years ago - was butchered having left upper and lower molars removed. Multiple injuries. 6 years of horrific pain. I would never get an implant. Nerve pain, torn jaw, and chronic infection and I’m an invalid. I was healthy. Then once you have malpractice,,, no one wants to help you. I’m in a living hell thanks to an incompetent oral surgeon.

i hear routinely from one of the implant chains the total treatment plan are above 50k. This is the norm not an outlier. Why is this happening? Are you serious? Huge student loans, corporate dental, and greed are a perfect storm to push young dentists to do high dollar treatment. They lack the training and in alot if situations also lack proper equipment. I could place implants but do not want to invest in what is needed to do these procedures properly. Ethics in dentistry is getting destroyed. I tell my patients we have specialists for a reason!!! There are some general dentists that can rival specialists but most are not properly prepared to place implants.

Hi Tiara I'm checking in to give you an update on my procedure got it done yesterday and I have to say it wasn't as bad as I thought it was more nervousness the team and doctors were very good made sure I didn't feel anything. Right nought is swollen and some pain but with Tylenol and Ibuprofen I'm doing OK. Hopefully the healing will be fast went today for a post op appointment and they said it looks 👍 so yeah I just wanted to give you an update have a great night

@marymonk hi the implants are in my lower it's painful the first couple of days but I took Acetaminophen and ibuprofen and it helped but it's worth it you'll feel so confident better than not having teeth. You'll be 🙂 👍

I had a sinus lift done at a Dental Clinic at a Department of Veterans affairs medical center. Before Christmas, It was "rough" as it involved using a hammer and probe. With 800 mg of Ibuprofen for post operation pain a week of misery. My care is for damage from injury from my Vietnam service.

Quick question, this might be a bit unorthodox for a dentist to answer unbiasedly but here it is; the woman that obviously had a case for “malpractice”(for lack of better words), could she not with your opinion be able to go back and sue the practice for what they did? I feel like with the money she spent, she should be reimbursed if it is an obvious error by the doctor.

I'm highly allergic to metals - most of the dentists I have talked with say shouldn't be a problem - they use titanium etc - what is your experience with metal allergy - does that mean I should be wary of implants? Thanks for the video

Zirconia implants. They are more expensive though

I had 8 minis recently implanted on top. 3 failed in the first month, Doc removed 2 more which were failing. After a cleaning a month later, I rejected another. After 4 months I only have 2 left and strong implications that it is my fault. Do I only brush those 2? Do the antibiotics, Chlorhexidine and Vitamin D3 only go to those 2? Now waiting for bone grafts to establish before we try again.

we talk about it on some of our other videos but mini implants are total garbage. they have a different grade of titanium and aren't meant for a long term solution

How to know in Sydney Australia who does a professional dental work. I’m in my Late 60’s and seriously thinking to have implants or any other solution. 10 missing at the top… 12 missing at the lower… all the rest are in the last years of life. Thank you for your amazing information.

I was getting an implant supported bridge for my top 6 front teeth. One of my implants failed. After 8 months, my oral surgeon placed the healing caps (I think that's what they are called) and gave me the all clear to have my dentist take impressions to make my bridge. While my dentist was twisting in the posts for the impressions, I heard the loudest crack and jumped. My dentist and the tech didn't hear it so we continued on. Impressions were taken and when my dentist went to unscrew the impression post, my implant came out. It's been an emotional roller coaster because I was so close to the finish line. Now I'm trying to figure out next steps. Another bone graft was done and I was told it's just a waiting game.

I am considering to get just one implant in the lower jaw for a pre molar, can I expect that this should be straight forward and a good option considering the person doing the job has 15 years experience and the clinic appears well run? I could just do a single partial denture to be safe as an alternative?

i am 80…..I have upper dentures and have had them for years but my bottom teeth are causing problems as I only have 6 left…..what would you suggest for me. I do not smoke and have fairly good health. I have had total knee and hip replacement on the right side, looking forward to your thoughts on this. Thank you.

I personally spent about 50k of my own $$. Because had no dental insurance that cover implants/bone grafts. Had 8 implants placed in upper for plans on zirconia prothesis. They were never right from Day 1..and I had educated myself enough to know. I actually woke up from anesthesia in excrutiating pain in middle of them all being placed. They were all so crooked and some were sticking out from gums lot further than others. Some barely even made in gum..and this was after I had already underwent bone graft. surgeries. Long story short, I already had to have 4 removed and other 4 going to have be removed soon. Not by dentist who placed, because he referred me out after I began questioning him and confronting him about inferior service. I have sought legal council with 3 highly rated and reputable firms who handle medical malpractice. I was told by each one (without other's knowledge) that to win any kind of case that at least 2 dentist (from same state) would have to testify regarding quality of care. And was told, they had not had success with that. So, Im just screwed and out all that's $$.plus pain and ayffwe4

Yeah those nylon retention bands are not cheap, something that wasn't told to me when I got mine, first year they were free but after that they want 50 a piece × 8 adds up .
