Great review. As for the channel setup. Phil from Sound United has clarified this. From my vantage point the issue is how people describe their systems. Signal wise Dolby, DTS-X and Auro3d are x.1.x. Now DTS Pro X supports an x.2.x signal configuration but I’m not sure if studios are going to support 2 separate LFE channels. Manufacturers including Denon advertise independent “channels” available for connection. So even though the signal is x.1.x the available physical connections can be up to an x.2.x. But I think we all understand or should understand that when a person is describing there speaker layout they are speaking about the number of speakers they have,(which is why most but not all people say the word setup after they say the speaker layout) and not the signal source of their receiver. Some purist believe and even Phil states this that the correct way to say it is “I have a x.1/2.x system with 2, 4, 8, etc subwoofers”. One day soon there maybe DTS-X Pro content with 2 separate LFE information signals and only then will it become important to specify whether your “system” supports .2 LFE signals and not just have .2 physical outputs. Also on the Sound United KZread channel he goes in-depth on HDMI 2.1 features including QFT. Sorry for the long post. Keep up the great work!

Scott Tilden I agree partly. DTS - X Pro supports two LFE channels. But I do agree we probably won’t see any content for it for awhile if ever. As far as multiple subs go I incompletely disagree with you there. Most of us don’t have professionally built rooms and multiple subs do so much too even out the bass response in multiple seating rooms. And I disagree with the belief manufactures believe multiple subs are pointless because I know for a fact that Sound United, Trinnov and other believe in multiple subs and bass management for multiple subs.

I had people correcting me on my videos about my setup. I get it and I understand and we don’t need to overthink any of this stuff. I can tell you where it all started too. I’m glad to see you getting back into the swing of things. You were the first person I subscribed to on KZread considering him theater. Great channel brother.

Beware that the output signal clips at 1.4 volts, meaning that ideally one would want to match it with an amp with an input sensitivity of 1.1 volts. You are not getting enough juice otherwise. If so, just go full pre-amp mode and assign external dedicated power to all channels. Pre-amp mode gives you at least 4 volts which is plenty to power most amps.

What you didn't adress was the possibilty to save 2 different configs, for example when you do the audyssey messurements for daytime viewing with your TV setup and night time with closed curtains and different accoustics.

Having multiple subwoofers will help with better sound across all seats, and the reason is room modes. Room modes will generally be more noticeable with low frequencies, If you have a single subwoofer I suggest you play (for example) a 60Hz test tone and walk around in your room, you may notice that the sound is probably louder in some areas and quieter in other. A second (Or 3rd, 4th...) subwoofer may help quite a bit and having an amplifier with 2 subwoofer outputs that can be calibrated independently will help even more (Not all amplifiers have independent subwoofer outputs). So even tho the LFE signal is mono and the subwoofers may receive the 'same' signal, the signal for each subwoofer may be equalized with a different frequency curve. So it's not pointless, and if you want to learn more about room modes, speaker placement, multiple subwoofers...etc, I suggest you have a look at Home Theater Gurus channel kzread.info/dron/wxr5jJUgORcMS9FmIaH1jQ.htmlvideos

One of the gratest things about DTS X PRO/AURO 3D, if you have the 13.1 layout installed as they say, it's the fact that you can use a height center channel. This was inspired from IMAX theatres where you have a huge screen and they need two center speakers, one placed under the screen and one height center to be able to place the voice of the actors in the middle of the screen. Also they are able to move objects , including voice, directly on the screen and place them exactly where you see them. Atmos can't do that as it's not able to work with such layout. If you think about it, DTS X PRO and AURO 3D are placing a lot of speakers in front of the cinema (you have the classic Left , Rright, Center and you also have right height, left height and center height), so you have 6 speakers in front instead of 3. Sure, atmos have more speakers on ceilling than DTS X PRO and Auro but how many sounds come from above you? The vast majority of the action takes place front, not above. Fair enough, this only makes sense if you have a large screen and you stay relatively close to it, like you would in IMAX theatre. If you stay far away, having two center channels (one under and another above the screen) won't help.

So can I turn off the front speakers on this AVR and use my HiFi amp to drive them via the front pre outs as that has an input to allow the AVR to control the volume and can I use those (height front wide pre outs) to drive a second amp with the same volume control feature so that I can fit some wide fronts into my 7.1.4 system therefore making it a 9.1.4 system. The layout is Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 as per there manual with the 4 speakers built into the ceiling, my room is long and I have already had to change the built in rears to larger speakers to help with sound steering, the steering of sound between the fronts and the wide's needs some filling in and I see this as a way to achieve that. Pioneer SC LX59, Musical Fidelity M3si, Monitor Audio Speakers.

The HDMI 2.1 chipset is having issues with certain 4k and 8k sources and is a known issue. It is also not a full 48 Gbps chip. Perhaps in the 2021 or 2022 models (some AV models are now refreshed every two years) there will be multiple 48 Gbps ports. If you do not expect to use 4k 120 fps or 8k source media for some time, then this chip glitch won't affect you. It will be receiving a DTS: X Pro update as well.

Hi Yusuf I also have the Sony STR 1080 and I've owned the Denon 6500, hence the reason why I'm now purchasing the Denon 6700 I'm surprised the hear you state that the Sony STR gets very hot because I have my Sony sometimes running 8-12 hrs and plus its in a cabinet and I never experienced it getting v hot I occasionally check it and even though it's very warm which is normal by the way! I've never in-counted the sony getting hot! Now as far as the Denon is concerned that gets quite hot in comparison with the Sony! My experiences with the Denon 6500 is that it got so hot that I was an able to keep my hand on it for more than a few seconds, even though I was a little concerned I wasn't overly worried, my solution was to keep the cabinet door open and occasionally check it when I was playing it for long periods! After owning the Denon 6500 for more than 3 months they allowed me to return it but I'm going to try again with the new Denon 6700. Mushiiyat allah I'm hoping it was just a fault with that Denon 6500 otherwise I'll be returning the Denon 6700 as well! My tip to you my brother...when you audition the Denon do not take any stickers off the chassis and be very careful when unboxing, that way if it does not meet your aspirations you will able to return it!!!

I’m not a fan that they reduced the number of HDMI inputs. I have the X6300H and have pretty much maxed out my HDMI inputs. Having less inputs means I would have to give up a gaming or streaming device if I got this receiver.

That's IMAX Enhanced, which is pretty much a dud. DTS: X Pro OTOH, on the 6700H will allow for a 9.1.4 or 7.1.6 upmix enhancement to DTS: X soundtracks and non immersive tracks.

If I'm running 2 subs on the 6700 one of them being a high performance subwoofer, the REL Ti series with the high level input connected to speaker binding posts as well as ofcourse the .1 LFE, so does that mean I should allocate the hi performance subwoofer to input 1 (top) and have the regular sub inserted into sub input 2 (bottom) I'm a little unsure hence the question but I would have thought having the better sub allocated to number 1 input or does it not make any difference whatsoever? Thanks for your considerations!

Pretty sure there is no need for an 8K anything these days as the content doesn’t exist & also you can’t physically tell the difference between 4K & 8K, there comes a point where in resolution, where you can’t physically tell the difference, if you asked someone off the street to view 4K & 8K side by side, I bet no one would be able to tell the difference

I don't understand why they have to throw 8k in home theater equipment and add significant cost when it will be years before there is anything 8k material to watch, not that the human eye will even be able to detect the improvement. Give me a 13 channel receiver without 8k or Imax or the unneeded software that almost nobody uses and sell it for a reasonable price.

I get the argument with the single LFE channel, but really it's all about industry standards. If the companies are now calling them .2 if they have 2 subs, then that has become the industry standard. It's like the arguments against words not being real words like "ain't". If the word becomes standard, it's part of the language. So if .2 meaning 2 sub outputs has become standard, then accept it. Take it to mean what it does, and don't worry about it.
