Blimey, what a blast from the past! I remember this copper as a student in Nottingham in the early 80's! Used to station himself outside Yates's on a Saturday night, complete with wooden staff. Very imposing and DEF not the man you'd want to mess with

I spent a weekend there a few years after this was made, it was safe to walk around during the evening, how things have changed and not for the better !

Blame the tory voters who've allowed the government to cut all services to the bone.

We called him Slab Square ( old market Square), which is where you normally saw him from a mile away, definitely a well-respected officer , remember the old police box at end of Angel row, he probably didn't fit in it.

If he was still working in 1983, I'm sure he's the same copper who gave me and my mate a stern telling off when he caught us pushing each other around in a shopping trolley.

Top cop. I was 16 in 1979. I rember him well. I always knew I would follow in his footsteps and in 1996 after 15 years down the pit I became a police officer working from oxclose lane
