Denmark Recalls South Korean Ramen For Being Too Spicy | Firstpost America

Denmark Recalls South Korean Ramen For Being Too Spicy | Firstpost America
In a spicy turn of events, Denmark has decided it's time to cool down. The nation has recalled several popular South Korean ramen noodles, citing safety concerns over their fiery spice levels. Danish officials say the spice levels could poison the consumers. People can develop symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, and diarrhea. The spicy flavours come from capsaicin, which is essentially a chili pepper extract. According to Denmark’s food institute, the levels of total capsaicin in a single pack of these noodles are sky-high. Hence, posing a risk of acute poisoning. and their advice is to discard or return the spicy ramen noodles. Watch the video to know more.

‘Korean Taste’ should be used as the reference point for ‘spicy food’ from Korea. Not Korean: Is this food spicy? → Does this food contain any spicy ingredients (pepper powder, ginger, garlic, or anything else containing capsaicin)? Korean: Is this food spicy? → If I eat this, will I lose feeling in my mouth and have to suffer through bloody pooping in the toilet the next day? As anyone who has lived in Korea knows, most Korean foods basically have “spicy ingredients,” so the range of “Some Little Spicy”* (매콤하다) is not considered “spicy” in Korean. note: the level values of Korean food are divided according to the north and south, and the seasoning of the food becomes stronger as you go from north to south. And if you want to find Korean food with mild seasoning, you can search under the temple food(사찰음식) category (Since Korean Buddhism prohibits meat eating, It uses very little seasoning and focuses mostly on vegetables).

I believe people in the west are making a mistake on how to consume the noodles. You are supposed to eat the noodles as if it were a soup, in a bowl of hot water. So most of the spices gets diluted in the soup. And most people people only eat the noodles and don't drink the soup. They simply throw away the soup after eating the noodles. So it doesn't matter how spicy it is, you end up throwing away most of the spices. But apparently people in the west are eating the noodles as if it were Italian spaghetti. They boil the noodles, then throw away the water, then add the spices. In that way you end up consuming all the spices. The spices are not good for your health, usually they contain too much salt, and in this case, too much pepper.

I understand that it may be challenging for the unfamiliar to discern the difference between Koreans and Japanese, or even with Chinese for that matter. But to start the story with SEA food images then Chinese and repeat Japanese images for your B-roll is the equivalent showing us Spanish, Portuguese, French when you are talking about Italian bread. The only time you actually show Korean is your stock images of Kdrama or BTS then the Korean couple. It may be asking a lot but please do better. Don’t tell me that you can’t tell the difference. Also it may be a better comparison if there were other spicy foods that were banned, or other countries, rather than telling us that the last time noodles were banned were for pesticides. You’ve left us with a negative impression of ramen as if it could be dangerous and toxic when the point of this coverage is how odd the Danish are and their intolerance for spiciness. Instead, you’ve made what is now ubiquitous cuisine into something suspicious and to be wary of, essentially “othering” and marginalizing Korean ramen.
