It’s not our fault that us with “barely wavy hair” is puffy and damaged and frizzy when we treat it like it straight hair. And it’s not our fault that our hair falls straighter when using the CG method and we’ve passed washday. The CG method makes my 2/a 2/b hair frizz free, no split ends, defined, and shines! I’ve never been this happen with my hair and I’m not going to let people tell us we aren’t apart of the curl community. Yes we are not apart of the natural community but we are apart of the curl community! :)

Exactly. I was told to brush my hair every day, multiple times a day brushing through knots and tangles that would come back as soon as I finished brushing. Just because my hair doesn’t look curly when it’s soaking wet it doesn’t mean that I don’t get little ringlets all over as it dries. And just because most of my hair is wavy right now it doesn’t mean that by caring for it properly my curl pattern won’t change over time. I hate all the hate in the curly community towards “wavy” hair.

gill morton so far I’ve only tried a few products but I’ll give you my opinions on those; but tbh everything is a trail an error 😅 Shea moisture manuka honey and mafura oil deep conditioner- loved it, it had great slip and since I used it every 4 weeks I feel it was good for my transitioning dry hair. Shea moisture manuka honey and mafura oil conditioner- actually had little slip, but didn’t over moisturize my hair :) Mop top gentle shampoo- Love this, actually had some slip when shampooing; and it helped with my flare up with psoriasis on my scalp. Very gentle, and smells great! Deva curl shampoo/conditioner/gel/leave in- I discontinued use of this after the allegation, but tbh I liked the shampoo as well as the leave in :) Maui moisture Shea butter deep conditioner-put my hair in horrible moisture overload, probably because my hair now needs protein, because it’s no longer dry and frizzy like it used to be. Discontinued use as well Rock hard gelee- LOVED this gel, it’s the only gel that gives me a cast! NYM Gel- didn’t get any cast but I loved the consistency, very watery and felt was good for refresh days :) Aussie instant freeze- don’t get a cast but it’s great hold and makes my hair shiny asf I feel Cantu foam-no hold at all, it makes my hair smell like pina colada tho 🤷🏻‍♀️ Shea moisture power protein mask- I literally used this once a week for a conditioner instead, it was amazing and I’m sad I ran out :) I hope this helps :) I’m ordering some new products soon as well so hopefully I’ll have more insight then! 💕

Well I guess mine is like hers in this video but mine is like that without using the denman brush so maybe that's why I'm confused. maybe if i used it mine would be more 3A.

I find that dramatically turning the Denman bush forward while brushing (so that all the hair slides across the back of the brush) causes the best clumps for my hair. It bizarrely reminds me of curling ribbon with scissors! 😂 ✂🎀

yes it is so sad that we've reached a point in society where we have to defend our hair! As long as the method makes someone's hair look good and healthy, what is the big deal? my hair is curly *and* wavy and even straight! but the curls looks so much better since I've been using some tips by the GC method

My hair texture changed so much since I was child… literally I’m just now figuring out how to care for my wavy hair… I wanted to see if my hair has some curl so I washed it and I saw that my ends had a slight curl and I’ve been doing the CGM for a couple of months and the right side of hair clumps beautifully but my left needs some work 😂

This is what I do and it really works... Apply leave in and curl activator overall squish to condition and plop. Then section hair horizontally into 3 sections. In each section take about 1-2" strips and add a tiny bit of gel and mousse then brush through with denman brush and then go through in sections with the denman brush doing the twisting method. once done with whole head use more mousse to scrunch. I get ringlets every time

Just got the denman yesterday and looking at videos now. And gotta say, your short added clip in the blue shirt gives so much hope! I was looking at your videos and thinking "yeah but her hair is awesome! How can it look like mine when wet?" And now seeing that part of this video, I'm like "omg is it really a matter of styling and technique and the right products for your hair?!" You just gave this wavy girl so much hope and motivation =D

I find i get better definition with the Denman brush for sure. Especially if I go in sections hold the brush vertical. ManesByMel has a really good video for demoing it. My hair doesnt get super tangly, so I can use just the Denman brush and it's fine for me

You have the best tips!! I just bought a Denman after watching this --I had one as a kid but I hadn't brushed my hair in YEARS. I don't have a Wet Brush, so I used my detangling comb to make sure there were no tangles like you said. Then I used the Denman to brush the conditioner in really well, then STC and also do the same with the curl cream like you did. My curls were SO much better. I really was not coating each strand before.

I've just started using either a wide tooth comb or Denman at the end of the application process and have noticed a definite improvement in my waves. I've been using the technique that Manes By Mell uses... Similar to what you did but more vertical sections on the side, then horizontal on the top. Then scrunch the new clumps. Like you said, didn't think it would make much difference on wavy but so happy it helps! Love! Thanks for sharing this and making people not be afraid of a brush!

Haha thank you! You are very sweet. I have dialed back on describing my hair as curly because some people were oddly offended by it. They said I was claiming to be something that I am not. And that is not my intention at all. So by calling my hair barely wavy (which some pieces of my hair are almost straight), people haven't been so ugly about it!

Your hair is my favorite in the section where you are wearing the blue T-shirt.

I don’t get a very crunchy cast but it does hold my curls together even after I scrunch out the crunch. I love the denman brush, I 2a,2b, 2c and some 3a mostly at the bottom. I find that when I use it to smooth my clumps I get more 2c, 2b and 3a less frizz (I live in Florida so that in it of itself is miraculous)

Yay! I've been waiting for you to post a Denman brush video! In all honesty, I want to try it, but I was waiting for somebody with a similar hair type to be a guinea pig for me. 😂

The Denman is amazing I use it to detangle in the shower then again I super thick coarse hair. As a styler it is amazing too and I definitely get my best curl days when I use it right side up and work section by section. I have done it upside down and it works as well.

I have 2b; c hair and I really like the Denman brush (with the a couple of rows removed...makes all the difference). I like the fact that the back looks better than the usual rat's nest that often happens. Since I've gone wavy, I find my hair tangles like crazy just like when I was kid!

I think you definately got more definition with the Denman brush. Thank you for sharing. I'm gonna try it.

Thanks for this video! I’ve always used my Denman Brush right side up, but maybe I should try upside down. For me, I like using my Denman for product distribution and definition. I find that it helps me go longer between wash days with a lot less frizz.

I'm still on year one of the CGM and having a really hard time to form curls. I love how you get your products in your hair during wash day, which means PROPERLY. I usually have a hard time because not only is my hair barely wavy and very long (weighting down waves), but I struggle with scalp psoriasis every single day, so excess conditioner or products to my scalp makes it fall out. I always end up with so much of my hair in the brush. So properly condish is scary. Or more than 4 products. I'll try these simply curls co products and try to condish like you show it here, maybe I can finally bring some more curls out. Your hair looks so BEAUTIFUL!!! I went to a dermatologist for what I call “cradle cap” on my scalp. It was also horrifically itchy. He prescribed Fluconozole (may be a tad mis-spelled) for the cradle cap. It’s topical. I didn’t have faith on it for a long time but by gosh it worked. A miracle. The itchy is a 1x a week at very low dosage, that too ended a many years torture. Whatever, see your dermatologist. Now my hair is getting healthy.

2 different goals - for the wet brush (combing thorough conditioner in the shower, about 7$) and denman brush ( out of the shower, defining strands, about 12$, 7 rows of bristels)

I just started using a Denman brush. It was a game changer for me! I use the wet brush to detangle in the shower then I use the Denman after I put my product in to distribute the product and provide curl definition. I have better curls and less frizz.

I HATED the original wet brush. My hair broke a bunch of the bristles. I now use their brush that's meant to be used in the shower (with the hook!) to detangle, and love it! I have the cantu version of the denman that I sometimes use to distribute product and form clumps. The cantu has less rows than the denman too

My hair is like yours , wavy with 100% of curl definition 🤩

I just purchased the Denman brush and it has helped me have curlier waves. I even had a few ringlets and managed to have good day 3 hair the first time I tried it! I modified the brush to 4 rows (taking 3 out) right away and know that helps. I use the Denman brush after I add product to my hair and it seems to be working well, though that may change over time.

I know this is kind of random, but have you ever tried the bowl method? I would like to see that :)

Muy hair is wavy, 2b/2c. I tried the denman brush and didn't give me any more definition, but It did helped me get a nice and even distribution of the products through my hair. That was my experience.

I never realized how curly my natural hair is... I have fine thin hair. Back in the 80s/90s in my teens 20s I would always get a perm.. My last perm was in 2003. Never again.... I noticed as my hair was getting longer I was having to do more work smoothing my hair out with flat iron etc... I'm so glad I found your channel. And others... I have noticed changes once I started using products for curly hair and other tricks I've learned.. My hair is long..mostly one length. Down to mid back.. I'm due for a hair cut. I was going to see if having long layers (kind of a shag cut) would help the curls hold shape.. The shortest I'd go is my shoulders.. Anyway... Thank you for your videos. I've learned so much in the past 3 weeks I started my curly wavy journey. GBY ♥

To get a big crunchy cast on my hair I go in with a strong hold mousse or gel and then after I finish styling wet I spray in some hair spray 😊

I'm a grandma that has had this brush formally called Vidal Sasoon for so many years I couldn't tell you how long, maybe 20-25.. I was looking to replace it because it is literally falling apart. The reason I love it is because I have very curly hair and have always used it to straighten mine. It holds the hair at the root very straight as you blow dry. I still use a hot iron afterward to get the frizz out. Just another thought. Wish I had known about the curling technique when I was younger and had long hair.

I'm a grandma also and have decided to grow my hair long. I start my CB journey last July. My hair is also now the longest it has ever been (middle of back). There are no boundaries or rules about age and long hair!

Would love to see you try denman coiling alla wavycurlyali and mell. I have you’re type of hair and have had good results doing this with deep conditioner but have tried it as styling yet

Czego Manes By Mell has a great demo for the Denman brush. One of the keys is to lift from the root, and twist as you near the end. If you do it in the direction of your natural curl pattern it will start to form a curl at the bottom. I then scrunch up and it works. My curls are now popping with lots of volume.

I think you got a great curl from that technique and brush. I’d bet that if you’d use smaller sections you’ll get even more defined curls.

I'm so glad you did another video with the Simply Curls Co shampoo and conditioner! I received mine a little over a week ago (along with her protein elixir) and wanted to see if they had continued to work for you. I was curious, do you like using the flaxseed gel she sent alone or do you get better results using another line to finish/style? I'm fairly minimalistic, so I do not have a history of using products, but feel I could benefit some from something simple (no pun intended haha).

I have a similar wave texture to you, but my hair is a little thicker/coarser. I always use my Denman brush with three of the rows removed like yours and it definitely helps my clumps form for more definition.

head hugging waves and cowlicks are a problem for me with my shorter hair. I have found the Denman brush picks my hair off my scalp fairly well and I can better fight the cowlicks. I also am getting a lot more curl. I still need a lot of practice, but so far I like it.

I see the difference in your hair with the Denman but for mine I don’t notice anything different. Also I’d like to add I use it upright while brushing it out vertically.

Which Denman do you use? There seems to be different “models”.

I picked up a denman brush last week and I've been using it to evenly distribute my styling products in my hair out of the shower rather than to get clumps, similar to what Curly Susie did in her video. My hair also has to be soaking wet otherwise it makes my clumps too small and stringy. Doing it with soaking wet hair has helped with definition and less frizz, but I don't think it's made my hair any curlier. I haven't tried using it in shower upside down though, I'm curious to try it that way and see if I get tighter curls as I usually get tighter curls when I do everything upside anyway (but then I have a problem of weird curl placement and tangles).

Your hair is my goal. Currently struggling at day 4 of curly girl. Lot of trial and error!

I love your videos❤ I get a good cast, but as soon as I try to scrunch out the crunch I lose all curls and just get stringy waves. The never ending quest for perfection continues *sigh.

I usually wait until my hair has been dry for awhile to scrunch out the crunch. You may look a bit silly but it lets the curls have more hold so when you do scrunch they stay.

Is it important to get the 7 row one vs. the 5 row one since you ended up taking out the rows?

Hey there! You’re hair did look more defined, I thought! I purchased a Denman brush and have been using it to distribute my conditioner but that’s pretty much it! I didn’t like adding my styling products in the shower though so after I squish to condish, I rinse my hair and squeeze some of the excess water out then I dry off. Afterwards I use my small DevaCurl towel to scrunch more water out of my hair. Lol then after I finish the rest of my morning routine I add more water to my hair then my cream then my get. Maybe next wash day, I should try the brush after I add my cream and gel and see how my curls turn out. I can’t plop cuz I have RA and my arms and hands are kind of “deformed” so my hands can barely reach the back of my head. Do you think I should try the brush like that?

If you turn the denman brush vertically it detangles MUCH better.

I started getting a gel cast when I applied my gel, lots of it, I’m talking 3-4 pumps, to less wet hair. So for me, that’s after I plop.

i used it for the first time today (with a shea mosture shampoo and a curly gel which was the second time trying them both) It definetely helped clump curls together and with the frizz i messed up the top and it got weird volume (my fault as I usually style head upside down and this time i tried imitating what i saw on some videos) and it definetely works might need practise for better technique tho lol

I got a Denman brush...but my hair is Still Too short! It's just barely long enough for squish to condish, and that's only if I lean to each side to do it. I'm going to try a DIY hair mask with fenugreek seed powder to see if I can get a growth spurt. SIGH! The things we do for our hair!

My hair is somewhere inbetween yours and your sisters and I find it gets curlier and less frizzy with the Denman brush. Maybe you could try it on your sister to show the results?

Ok! It's kind of tricky to explain but I have finally figured out how to get a decently straight part nearly every time! I will make a video on it soon! Because sometime a visual is easier than trying to explain via typing!

Kirsti Reid I don’t think she made a specific video about this but I’ve seen in some wash day videos she runs a wet brush/my perfect hair care brush through her hair while she’s upside down. She said running the brush upwards from her forehead and pulling it away from her head helps form the parts. I hope that made sense!

how did you remove the rows from the denmam?

You have beautiful curls and yes they are curls. Problem is we have heated and destroyed structure of hairs from time to time to make it more manageable or just to experiment. Now what we have is refurbished hairs and they are curly. Those who feel it’s not I suggest enhance your knowledge as she has curly hairs not coily straw textured hairs.
