Deniliquin Garbage

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The town of Deniliquin is one of the furthest points I’ve journeyed to, which I visited on a Tuesday morning straight after videoing the DSK finger lifts in Berrigan. I firstly caught up with the Country Waste Systems front loader that was doing commercial waste in the area (already uploaded) and then I moved onto the side arm vehicle being run by council works, a truck full of character which I was stoked to catch. This is a badass little rig, very much gone from the council operation it was destined for, but still fulfilling its duties back in September 2017 when I was travelling NSW. I already knew what to expect, as I’d previously laid eyes on a photo of a single axle MJE Iveco side loader, only I wasn’t totally sure if it was still performing bin lifts in the area. Thankfully, it was still around and rocking on, yet it seems the council upgraded to a Gen6 ACCO not overly long after I documented this featured machine. The thing about this ACCO too is that it’s actually a 2005 model and the GenV unit wasn’t released until late 2006, so a unique pairing when you normally see a banging MkIV RotaGrab extending out from these ACCOs.
Sadly and annoyingly, the original red and blue “Deni Works” branding only remains in the form of a faded outline on the compactor body, with a little cab sticker seen identifying the new Edward River Council formed from the merging of the former Deniliquin and Conargo LGAs. Conargo Shire didn’t have any kerbside collections for it’s largely scattered rural population, the only roadside service occurs in Deniliquin, with a classic all-in-one single bin system at play. Whilst back then and still today a single 240L is available to residents for mixed waste and emptied once a week, about July 2024 the council intends to implement the triple bin system with weekly FOGO and fortnightly recycling and garbage. Alongside a little Garwood rear loader, the council runs a sole truck for the residential run, with the town broken up into four zones collected Monday to Thursday, and multiple loads per day dumped at the local landfill situated off the Cobb Hwy on the northern outskirts.
Worth mentioning is that Deni Works was previously appointed by the former Jerilderie Shire to conduct waste pick-ups in the small council once per week, this came to an end when the 2016 amalgamations occurred. Furthermore, at least during the first half of the 2000s, Ellwaste was contracted by Deniliquin to carry out domestic rubbish collections, until council bought this 4x2 side loader and took the job in-house. Something cool about this location as well is the large presence of Brickwood 240L MGBs, which are clearly branded with the Deniliquin Council name, it was sweet seeing so many presented along those extra wide country streets. This brand/size seemed to exist mostly as divided recycling bins in the past and not so much for single waste stream applications. I guess these were the original wheelie bins rolled out for Deniliquin households maybe in the very late 90s, with others appearing to be more modern, but I didn’t think to check any manufacture dates!

Really enjoyed this one! The spoked Dayton wheels on this truck were a nice touch paired up with the sharp engine sound on take off, especially when catching an exhaust side shot. Also really enjoyed seeing the brickwoods in their natural habitat, someday I’d love to find a way to add one of those to my collection. Nice to see some more footage surfacing from you!

Banger video Mitch! Love the roar and look of this truck. There’s not many of these trucks in Perth, there’s on mkiv that does commercial bins in Perth and a company called hanseen owns a few to my knowledge. Definitely something unique about these old style videos that seem to stand out more than the new videos filmed with phones, new cameras etc.

Something intriguing about these absolute rural in-house collections, the slow laid back pace of lining up the bins with the grabs and light throttle between houses, just dragging out the length of the day. As much as it’s important to recover and recycle waste appropriately as we know today, seeing 1 bin all in collections is so cool to see for nostalgias sake, the mixture of all the old dark green bins, clanging of glass as each bin reaches the hopper. I really wonder how the whole FOGO mandate is going to go in these rural councils with urban areas appearing to be the minority of collection zones.

Nice video here Mitch. I did a bit of research on this joint just recently and wasn’t able to find much on the history or current day operations besides the new Gen 6 Acco or 3 bin system like stated in the description. Definitely helped me piece a few things together. Nothing beats a small country town like this one with singular bin pick ups with wide long streets with a single rig running around preforming collections. Councils like these are the ones I wanna explore myself in coming years. Once again touch notch vid 👌

Aussiegarbo have you heard of Easy Care gardening? I voulunteer with them in Ryde and part of Hunters Hill on Fridays! Although its a voulunteering gardening service however i feel like it should be called "Easy care waste services" as the amount of garden organics the teams cleans up from the gardens is heavy and a suitable name for an independent waste company if Easy care gardening have to budget to become one and if they were to they could use 4x2 trucks like this both side and rear loader or what trucks do you think Easy Care would use if they are to become a waste company? When we put the bagged green waste and bundles out at the kerbside a sub contractor comes and collect them and i know its a garwood rear loader! However between the different councils they have a certain limit to how many items all up can be placed! Ryde - unlimited, Hunters Hill-limited to 10, Ku Ring Gai- not sure but i was once told limited to either 15 or 20, Hornsby-not sure. Would the 2005 cab happen to come off from a mkiv compactor and fitting onto this later gen v compactor unless the cab is a late 2006 early 2007 one of the last ones with the mid 90s-2007 acco cab! Also do you think Bucher should design the hoppers larger or like the old mkiii hoppers as they were durable and unbreakable and more room cause on the Parramatta video i see the hopper walls were bent and breaking!
