Demons: Their Tormenting Psychology | Fr. Ripperger

Ойын-сауық

Fr. Ripperger, who you may have seen on Sensus Fidelium, gives a masterful breakdown only an exorcist can give. Have you ever wandered, what is it like in the mind of a demon? What influences their actions?

    Wow. That is so sad. I see so many parallels with human endeavor and failure, with the accompanying reasons and excuses. The dark side of free will? It really drives home that if we aren't serving God, we are serving the other's purposes.

    This is interesting, you know this leads me to think of the topic of “the dark night of the soul.” If you are living a godly life, the soul becomes consumed by the spirit as you grow and take in the daily bread in the word. At the same time I also believe if one is very sinful, and rebelling against God, the dark night of the soul can be consumed by Satanic forces, and eclipse the soul, eclipse the consciousness. That’s why people don’t feel a sense of guilt when committing a great sin.

    This line of reasoning about demons having kind of a self hatred for themselves because by their primary nature were made to do a specific good task, yet in their free will they chose to do evil for all eternity makes sense why demons hate everything that God made and falls in line with God still making everyone and everything good. No evil comes from God, only the evil that comes from our free will from rejecting God. This is the problem of evil. We have a choice and we decide “not God”.

    It must be an awful existence to be a demon. Knowing that no matter what they say or do, Satan will never love or really care for them, nor will they ever be able to experience the paradise that is God and Heavan. How miserable and hopeless that must be.

    But they knew it and chose it. They chose it bc they didn’t want to serve a human being as queen the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ. They wanted to be above humans which is why they hate humans so much.

    @6islifeeternal yeah they couldnt fathom why would God come in form a man with ultimate humility of not using His Power and be torn apart, die and resurrect just to save petty humans by offering that as free gift to us through belief in Him, fallen angels Hated God for that.. i also ask same question myself why would God save us, we are miserable self absorbed creatures in general..

    It makes sense, that the demons have a kind of natural instinct (or "assigned task") which they follow, even if they are no longer free to choose the good. They're like steam engines that have jumped the track, so to speak, and cannot travel in a straight line anymore; they cannot choose the good for which they were created or follow their native instincts. All of this makes good sense. St. Thomas' thought is clear cut, descriptive and explains a great deal about what creatures are endowed with by God. A kind of correlative insight is that sin creates a blindspot, throwing nature off so creatures can no longer follow that for which they were created. Nature that loses grace becomes debased, and creatures (spiritual or material, angelic or human) can access only that good which is no longer infused with divine directives.

    It's impossible to understand angelic minds, but if they rebel against God they will still need to serve satan. So what is the point since they will never be able to be independent anyway?

    Please enlighten me, oh Lord. If angels are created instantaneously, with perfect understanding, why choose the Devil? And i was always taught that free will is what divides the creation: angels are supremely power, and possessed of foreknowledge, but no free will. Thats why humans have free will, but very little in the way of actual spiritual power. Animqls are governed by the law of nature, with no free will. Such is the way and the reason the God Himself became both fully divine and fully human in Jesus, our Savior. Fully powerful, yet fully experiencing human form, in order to bring humanity closer to the blessed creator. If angels have free will ... why are we even here?

    @@iamcatholic_ They no longer have "freewill" because of the Holy War in Heaven. The angels relinquished this when they chose to obey God completely. If demons had "freewill" why would they make the same choice to fall from grace? --- Their freewill is fixed

    Thank you Father. Why do they possess certain people? They all chose not to serve, like satan, and want to be worshipped?

  • @Dienekes678

    @Dienekes678

    They can possess certain people because those unfortunate people have given the demons a legal right to inhabit them through grievous sin. It is a mystery why God allows some to be possessed, while other people with perhaps worse sins are not possessed. The good Lord brings good from evil. Possession is a horrific, purification process and the person who comes out the far side of it nearly always lives a life dedicated to God.

    It is because they want to destroy anyone made in the image of God, who has the potential of spending eternity with God. This is a jealousy coming from their own damnation and eternal separation from God.
